Not sure if this is the place to post this but oh well if Im wrong poo on me.
Some would argue with me about the subject to this post and say that FF9 is more of a Victorian era theme, but whatever. Which do you like more, the futuristic style or the classic FF style with dragons, princesses ect. In my opinion; I like the more futuristic FF's, I dont know why but they have a certain appeal to them. I loved FF8 and 10 and I kinda liked 7. When I played 6 and 5 I couldnt continue playing them they were too boring. Oh well what do you think?

Since this is dealing with more than just FFVIII, I'll move it to General FF.
Moving now :)

I Like both, but I'd hardly call FFIX "medievil",it starts out that way,but if it dosen't stick it all the way, it falls in to neutral territory, for me atleast.

Ah, I voted for the 'I like both' option as I really liked the setting in both FF8 and FF9 and I couldn't make up my mind between the two games ^_^

I like both, and that's what I voted for, but I have to admit that I'm more partial to the fantasy type settings in games. Not sure what it is, but there's a fondness I have for those sort of games that I don't have for more futuristic ones. That's not to say that the more futuristic titles in the FF series were less interesting/good games, just that the fantasy type settings mean something special to me.
my thumb is in my butt...
but really, i dont care what era, as long as its a cool game

I like both. It all comes down to how well the world is designed and the story is written. And remember, just because it seems to be a 'medieval' world, doesn't mean it's all technologically primitive. Remember the flight to the moon in FFIV? Or War Mech and the Floating Castle in FFI? And the highly-advanced world of Terra in FFIX, with genetic engineering and mind control the norm. And don't get me started on the airships in every FF! Therefore, I don't see much real difference between the more 'fututeristic' FF's and the 'medieval' FF's.

Even thought FF7 is my favorite game of all and it's kinda futuristic, I prefer games when they have a Medieval atmosphere ... I think Medieval atmospheres are a lot cooler than futuristic ones ...

Lets put it this way.. which was cooler, the FF8 Ragnorok, or the FF9 Airship???
Lets see, the ragnorok has cool music, cool blue flames and looks absolutely awesome, the airship sucks so bad.. There it is, futuristic meta jets better than Fantasy type hot air balloons
Futuristic over Olde

I like them both. I agree that if the game world is well designed what tech scheme its in is not relevant. I'm all about plotline, doesn't matter if its futuristic or medeval, long as the story is good :).
I like the futureistic stuff the most. That other old time stuff is borning IMO...I like it Hi Tech...though i really didn't mind FF9...

I'm prefer the futuristic theme and looks. Dunno why exactly, but we really do have enough medieval games as it is *coughpccough*
Ofcourse I won't this medieval themed games though since they can be good and such, but the choice does go to futuristic since it allows more differences/speculations then making something from the past.

Even tho i like the futuristic settings more in FF8 i still think that FF9 was a far better game, its all about the storyline if you dont have a good enough storyline then you dont have a good game.
That is why FF7 is by far my favorite and always will be unless square pulls off the greatest storyline for a FF game of all time
one that is even better than FF7 (i can only wish that would happen...... someday........ )

I'm back, anyhoo, as a final fantasy mad girl that i am, i like em all, ff7 for it's story line, ff8 for its storyline and ff9 for it's story line, there all good, but if asked which one like now I would say Final Fantasy 9.
This is because it uses the basics that all RPG's should have, Knights and Dragons, and the best of all, it is more difficult by the fact that certain characters can use abilities that others can't, I.E. Vivi can use black Magic, Quina can use blue, Dagger/Garnet & Eiko can use white magic as well as some other characters, and Zidane could not use magic, and it's this that makes it my fav.
And I have not played any thing higher than ff9 yet.

I preferred Final Fantasy IX to VIII, but it wasn't the medieval style I preferred, it was the game in general. The setting does have some effect on the game, but in IX this time round there was the right mix of technology and medieval-ness (I've invented a new word! YAY!!!)
Just like I liked IX as a game, I didn't like VIII overall as a game. There were a few things that bugged me, and it wasn't the fact it was a slightly futuristic game. It was in spite of that. Both setting are cool when done correctly, and both were down well.

The inventiveness in the more futuristic final fantasy games is what got me hooked on the series. Theres already plenty of fantasy/medieval type rpgs out there, and im not saying there is anything wrong with them, but the futuristic feel of ff7 ff8 and sort of ff10(post apocalyptic future) are what sets it apart from other series. Also, what would final fantasy be like today with out the inovative futuristic character design from Tetsuya Nomura? (prob spelled wrong)

Gotta go with medieval because I love FF4, FF5, FFT and FF6. FF7 and FF8 ehh there were not to bad but when they went back to medieval in FF9 I thought it was great.

Well, to me I liked the eight theme but, I like to think of it as More of a PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE,
Past- blades dragons monsteres
present-guns, trians
future-esthar (MOSTLY)
as for Nine I think it was an inbalance of past and future. mostly the graphics make nine seem gloomy boring victorian style. I think
