That's the new thread button, mang.

I mean the one that lists all the posts as they are made. You know, the God button. The one I'd have sex with, if I could.

i dont know what ddos is either.

I do: DDoS [Distributed Denial of Service] attacks are basically many systems working together to bring down the site like malware, trogans, TCP three-way handshakes and many other methods just endlessly bombarding the server with nonsence requests. It requires a highy focussed effort by someone who doesn't like us...

Yeah, I saw that one.

I thought it was probably hackers myself. Would it help at all if the Search function was made available only to registered and confirmed members?

Haha, I actually posted a question as well a few days ago... or yesterday, I cannot remember.

Edit**

Wow, I went back to check my question's status and update it, and Yahoo deleted all traces of it.

I have had more and more frequent instances when I try to load the forums and get a message that says "server busy." If these were service attacks, and removing the search function was to take care of that, I still got one this morning, when I tried to load the page.

In any event, thank you very much for getting everything back and running.

zzzzzzzzOMFG!!!

I thought that them internet police finally got these forums down.

Now lets get serious here. No Search function? WORD!? You expect me to find anything after five days at the Download Links section? With the traffic of over 50 (I guess) on pretty much 24/7, and... people actually do post some shit there. Matter in fact this is probably one of the fastest forums out there with people posting really rare stuff and new stuff even before it is out. Well this is fast enough for me, shit I'm still amazed on weekly basis over here. So, without search function I'm fucked up. And I tend to check out at least once in a day, despite that I still miss a lot of stuff posted.

People will miss over 80% of links posted, pretty much yeah shit is fucked up!

Don't get me started with google, because it doesn't search inside of the topics. Or I just don't know how to search properly with it (fuck me then!).

Yeah, the missing Search utility is a detriment to the site's functionality. I use it to find the soundtracks I'm looking for, because I tend to stay away from Galbadia Hotel nowadays because you have to download each track individually.

The forums serve a much better function, so why do people hate this site? Why would they want to ruin a good thing?

People are just retarded. That's why.

In waiting, you can use something like this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=site%3Aforums.ffshrine.org+"download+links" then add your search to the current line.

illmatic291

Why not just make it so that only members can use search? I've seen plenty of forums that do that. This way you can also ban them from the forums.

Thank you. I was in need of a lot of music, but with FFShrine's forums gone I didn't have good access to what I was looking for. However, the ability to search was necessary for me in the past, and so it felt like the forums were still absolutely gone due to the feature not being available. You, on the other hand, have brought back the search function, just in a roundabout way, but it still works just fine. :) :) :) FFShrine is now alive through Google! Thank you!

only members can use search

Yeah, that - and a limit to one search per 30 seconds. Most forums do that, and it should protect from any flooding problems. Having to wait 30 seconds after each search beats not having a search function at all.

Wow. I just tried out a couple of random searches using that template, and it works much, much better than the old search engine. (which was hampered by being unable to use quotes or +.) For instance, if I look for, say, ken burns, I get only ken burns and not every appearance of ken or burns. And there's a lot of hokuto no ken out there.
At last a way to not only find batman, but which batman.

Thanks again,
JonC

They can't. They DDoSed this site by sending too many search requests, which basically overloaded the system. Google is HUGE and services billions of people at a time, and plus, any searches they perform will affect Google's servers, not these.
