Way back in 2006, I was contacted to write the original score for a fan-developed Castlevania game. The game looked incredible for a fan game, with graphics that rivaled Symphony of the Night and a promising storyline and gameplay. Unfortunately, the game was never completed but still lives on in the memories of the Castlevania community.
I only released a couple of tracks from the soundtrack to give the fans a taste of what the music would be like. The sampler soundtrack was very well received, and gave me an extra boost to keep writing new tracks. When the project was cancelled, I ceased writing any more music and abandoned it. However, over the years I would revisit and try to write new music, for a now non-existent game. I relied on my imagination to think of what levels there would be, bosses, events, etc in order to compose the rest of the soundtrack.
Four years later, in 2010, I have completed the score. The soundtrack contains 18 tracks of all-original compositions (with the exception of one boss theme). The style is very similar to Michiru Yamane, with the instrumentation resembling that of Curse of Darkness and Symphony of the Night. Rock, techno, orchestral, and hybrid pieces are just some of the musical styles I explored in writing the score.
I am personally sharing this soundtrack to all of you- fans of Castlevania, Michiru Yamane, and video game music in general. I do hope you take the time to listen to the full soundtrack, and I would greatly appreciate any comments.
Sincerely,
Geoffrey Gunn

This is excellent work. I love the way you wove themes in from previous games while simultaneously crafting your own. And I totally agree with dspani; this not only would fit nicely within the Castlevania series, but when played in the context of a Castlevania playlist, it does fit nicely.

Thanks. It's a pretty cool listen.
Since we're on the topic of Castlevania music, have you heard of Nox Arcana before? They have a darker classical sound to them that I've always kind of felt would fit a Castlevania game as well. If you have heard or played the Medievil series on playstation then that's kind of what they sound like. A couple I've listened to a lot are Soul Stealer (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb12xwD8QT0&feature=related) and Darkly Ever After (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbdgJqZKrcc&feature=related). If you get a chance they're an interesting listen, might even give you ideas if you did another Castlevania fan soundtrack.
Thanks again for the soundtrack.

Thank you so much!
When writing the score I tried to interweave motifs or themes from previous games into an entirely new composition. "Castlevania - Dracula's Castle" is very reminiscent of the classic castlevania tunes, and on the other hand "An Unheard Requiem - Chapel Stage" is similar to Michiru Yamane's more recent work.
I did my best to match Michiru Yamane's style- her chord progression, instrumentation, etc. But at the same time, made sure my own voice was in there.
Thanks for all your comments so far, I greatly appreciate it!

@ amgeoffrey12: This is pure gold, man. Iam super impressed with your compisitions here. I love how some of them sound very similar to Symphony of the Night's soundtrack. The instruments you use are super close (might even be the same) to those that Michiru Yamane uses herself, and I like that. Great job! Thanks for sharing this with us. :D

Nice catch for being able to tell the instruments Yamane uses! Konami composers have begun to use EWQL samples (Symphonic Orchestra, stormdrum, choirs) and I use these myself. Yamane also mentioned that she uses Logic Pro to arrange her music, and I use this software as well.

Thanks for the upload! I'm listening right now to it, and I can already tell, it's really good. SotN having one of the best OSTs in gaming history, this is almost on par with it, which is already pretty awesome. One can never have enough Castlevania-music, and this is a worthy addition to it. I especially like the ending theme. It has a very soothing and peaceful vibe to it, I can perfectly imagine a credit roll that comes after a tough game while hearing it. In other words: I love it :)

You're welcome! :)
These two elements combined with techno and/or rock are currently my favorite type of video game music to listen to. That's why I enjoy most of the latest Castlevania soundtracks, and this album here of yours, so much. Great stuff.

Amazing composition. The entire soundtrack really takes me back. Listened to the soundtrack on my psp at school and I love it :). But if you don't mind, I want to extend those two tracks, Dracula's Castle and Like Father, Like Son. Those two are my favorites and I think they're too good to be short :). I have audacity to loop them.

It sounds so great that for me, it's at the original soundtracks level.
If I was to hire the next guy to make the next castlevania soundtrack, it would be you. 100%.
Keep it up, I mean it, don't let that great talent of yours go to waste or to forgetness, keep doing some of these when you got the time and feeling for it. =)

Do you plan on doing another Castlevania-inspired album?

No, unfortunately I don't have sheet music. The big problem is these tracks are quite old. So old, that they were made back when I was in the PC age and I have since moved over to mac. If you listen carefully you can actually hear the quality difference in some tracks. Thus, you can tell what pieces I wrote 5 years ago and which ones I wrote very recently.

Wow! Considering this is a fan project, C:TBS is pretty good. Okay, I wish you'd have picked something different from your sound libraries for your lead melodies (the main "instrument" sounds a little too cheap for my taste), but that's complaining on a high level. Kudos to you, sir!

Hey guys! Here're links for a new, improved version of the soundtrack. Not only did I upgrade the MP3s to 320 quality: I took the liberty of adding thirteen tracks from a 2004 collection called "Original Songs Inspired by Castlevania," also by Geoffrey Gunn. I know I'm not supposed to just put links in somebody else's thread, but this music is nowhere to be found; plus, why impede newer audiences from discovering the pure, undiluted awesomeness that is Mr. Gunn?

The guy you quoted must have transcoded the 192 kbps MP3s, because that's what the original sharer posted years ago. Do you know what happens when you transcode lossy files into lossy format(s)? You degrade quality even further. Whatever he/she (Chronos X) had shared back then actually sounded worse, as far as the original content of this album is concerned.
You'll do yourself a favour by keeping the 192 encode.
