But anyway… I’m sure most of you have already played it through by now, but I’m posting this because I’m curious why this game gets a lot of hate. I keep hearing it called boring, but after playing it I’m guessing those who say that are the same elitist morons who enjoy bashing every game. CoM I thought was boring because it was very repetitive with each world feeling you’re doing the same thing over and over, only the in-between Oblivion parts were what was more anticipated.
But this game seemed like it finally utilized the worlds to their more full potential. The "mission" system really holds it together in a more interesting way, plus I liked how Neverland was actually Neverland and not just two things in the same universe as it.
O13 backstory/utilizing was also fun. Sure, Xion fucked up the concept of "Org. XIII", but at least that’s addressed. Also call me crazy but I wouldn’t have guessed she would be the endgame.
Really can’t wait to play Birth By Sleep now…
Funny thing is, that’s what i thought about 358/2 Days.

It’s a bit dull that it goes to all the same worlds it goes to in KH. It’s awfully dull that you have to do all kinds of missions rather than just getting on with the important stuff. It felt a lot like the missions were added because of a fear of lack of enough gameplay between story elements… I didn’t beat 358/2, but I went in pretty far, and it seems that this is affecting my just-recently-started playthrough of the ps2 one, by means of making these worlds feel old to me. Oh well.
If that’s so "awfully dull" what exactly would you have expected? The game would have been way too short and boring otherwise.
Also they did add new things in the worlds. But if you were expecting new and original Disney worlds, then you’re playing the wrong game. Did you seriously pick this up expecting newly added worlds? Considering it’s not "KH3", that’s a bit of a stretch to expect that.
It’s no less "awfully dull" than that you have to go through all those worlds in KH1 rather than get on with the "important stuff". You must really be an idiot if you think the missions were something that were simply "added" because of a fear of lack of something. They ARE the game, they’re this game’s main system. That’s almost as retarded as saying the worlds in KH1 were "added" at the last minute because the game would be too short otherwise.
You sound kind of like you’re desperately looking for reasons considering how amusingly flawed your argument is. But thanks, I had a good laugh. 🙂
Funny thing is, that’s what i thought about 358/2 Days.
Why? The only way you could be serious is if you came in expecting the wrong thing.
The funny thing is, that’s probably the reason I disliked CoM, but what I was expecting CoM to be was practically what 358/2 ended up being, for me.
I’d even go as far as saying it utilized the worlds in a much better way than KHII did. Maybe not the first one, but definitely the second.
In KH2 I kind of felt like I was just walking through the whole thing, and that’s it. You visit a world for part one of an event, then for part two, and it’s over. No secret/exploration factor like there is in KH1. Especially Disney Castle… seriously, as soon as you finish the Timeless River event, you have absolutely no reason to go back there. Also all the chests were out in the open… there was nothing secret/hidden, you’re just in and out and that’s it.
While in the first one you have the trinities, and the chests that are hidden or require a secret ability to access… the whole exploration factor was lacking in KH2. Which is a shame because of how much potential the worlds had. KH2 seemed to be more interested in making you master mini-games than making the worlds explorable.
358/2 may have the mission system, but I found this far better than KH2’s system. Considering there are only eight worlds, six of which were Disney, it was better to see the variety of things they had to offer, rather than simply two visits and it’s over.
Also, CoM was just following a grid of rooms made to have scenery that look like the different worlds. In other words, every world was practically the same shape and doing the same thing over and over again in each world, until the boss fight at the end. How is this better than 358/2?
You’re overlooking a lot of things if you actually think that’s what every mission was over and over.
Rarely did i see a puzzle or anything else that made the gameplay different.
Again you’re overlooking it, but they were definitely there. Did you play the whole thing? I can name them if you’d like, but you’ll probably just twist them into making them sound like they’re the same thing. I’d say only 40% of the missions were merely "killing enemies". And the ones that were had scenes throughout that paid off.
Another thing I might add is some of the bosses were actually challenging compared to anything I fought in KH2. KH1… well, there’s some competition, but this game’s boss battles were well crafted.
But if you enjoyed it more than me, that’s good then.
I stand by my statement. 358/2 actually has replay value. Chain of Memories does not.
I’m still lolling at Kayfabe’s statement.
I’m actually trying to clear EVERYTHING now, including getting all the Challenge and Mission Sigils.
I already cleared all the Holo-Missions complete objectives (and never wanna see the Dustflier again), I’ve cleared a majority of the Challenges all the way, still have a handful more. But before I get into that, the ONLY Mission Crowns I have left are for the Xion battle mission. Any tips on how to beat it?
Heh, while doing mission mode I actually noticed different characters are good for different missions. I’ve mostly been altering between Saix and Riku.
For example, Saix is very good attacking with it’s health full, and has a combo finish hit that can kill a enemy with one strike, but has weak magic, powerfull but bad limit breaker, and only deals 3 hits with a combo (at least with the type of weapon panel i am using), while Riku is a balanced character.
Roxas however, has the longest and fastest hit combo while dealing massive damage at the same time, and has good magic while dual-wielding. Maybe i am favouring a little Roxas cause he is my favourite character, but you should try him, since you have seen his power on the last mission killing the Neoshadows with one hit.
The only one I’ve enjoyed was Chain of Memories, which was a grindfest but wasn’t that afraid to admit it (assuming you knew how to skip cutscenes). I really liked customizing decks, how the decks were decisive in winning or losing, and the high challenge battles lated on.

*cough-stupid-cough*, Chain of Memories was the worst in the Kingdom Hearts installement, (excluding "Coded"), but like i said, you gotta PLAY THE GAME, to say stupid things like that, and i’m sure Zak agrees with me. But it’s your call, i dont have anything to do with it, and this was basically not made for KH 358/2 Days haters or dislikers.
I guess if your 10 years old. Disney is for kids. I guess there are a lot of children in the forums?
Dismissing the game as a kiddies game because of the disney aspect is narrow minded and utterly retarded, if you bothered to know what you’re talking about, the game has alot more original content then simply having Disney characters and even then, it really isn’t childish, alot of Disney films actually deal with pretty adult themes considering they were targeted at a younger audience so do yourself a favour and know what you’re on about before you make a fool of yourself please.
People enjoy the game on its own merits, gameplay, soundtrack, story, original characters and so on.
In the meantime, I can now start playing this series from the first game. It’s been too long so I’m a little excited.
Uh, dude, I played the DS game. I played the PS2 games also. I highly disliked them for the reasons I listed in my previous post (such as repetitive combat and bad level design), and only enjoyed Chain of Memories for the other reasons I also listed on my previous post (such as deck customization being critical to progression).
Your point?

You must have ADD or something then.
