Thanks a bunch, Silverwinter. I've been looking for that album like crazy since it came out a few weeks ago. Now it's time to update my year-old SS thread...

ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID! I can't tell you how lovely it is to see Sugiyama - at 78 - still working to this standard. There's a feeling of great freshness in this, as well; he's not just rehashing his older ideas (which in itself would be forgivable; being the sole composer on the franchise for 25 years is bound to consume a great amount of creativity) - this is no slouch.

Pity they didn't record in London as with the other suites; not that there's anything wrong with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, but the LPO is just special. Perhaps in his advancing years Sugiyama has finally had enough of thirteen hour flights, jetlag, and all the rest of it...?

Either way - thanks again. This makes me a very happy chappy this morning. :)

I believe Sugiyama prefers the Tokyo Metropolitan because of his nationalist streak. I like how they play the music, though.

Aah! Quite right, never thought of that.

It's certainly a glorious performance, no doubt about that. It just always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling when I see a project from a faraway country recorded in my home city. ;)
