ultimate veggie

I have played many many rpgs and in my time i have seen one plot reign over all there is always a bad guy that messes things up at the begining of the game followed by the hero going out in to the world either not knowing about this evil guy or knowing and heading off to his hmmm...most likely place maybe a castle and on the way the hero always seems to meet these great fighters and mages its never a job to fight alone fighting one on one mono e mono now that would be kewl no help just kick butt action with the main hero hey it would shorten the game considerably but it would be you doing all the work leading up to the final conflict instead of a bunch of people who have a similer problem with the evil guy which makes you tend to forget the main porpouse of the game and be distracted with the other party members problems...but the one thing at that they seem to do a lot now but i dont mind is the way the boss keeps coming back for more in stronger more difficult forms it realy make wining the game all that more satisfying id say ....but as for having all that help well i guess it would be okay to have help on small quests thats extra in the game you know side quests so umm well what im trying to say here is id like to see a new aporach to the rpg somthing that is diffrent yet still familier..umm i duno how to say it but ::shrugs:: i just want some thing new and exciting wouldent you? :uh?:

You know, that was one big fat sentence. What did you say in it? O.o Use commas, and stuff, so people understand you...
Nut back to topic, of course there are certain rules or laws that most games follow.
I tell you: A floating city or continent WILL eventually crash onto the ground! Its just a matter of time, and little does matter which game it is!
However, in todays rpgs I think programmers are trying more and more to break the rules and come up with brand new ideas.
And I also know some examples when I did not expect anything great and new... but was surprised: If you know Chrono Trigger, you might know how I felt halfway through the game... in the beginning I was so sure that this was yet another "Slay the evil wizard in order to save mankind!"-games... I was mistaken.
rpgs will more than likely be like this all the time , but thats why they are rpgs and not action/adventure games....i like the fact that you are trying to defeat an evil lunatic from trying to take over the world, thats what makes it so fun, however , some times, i do get sick of repetitive random battles...but not if its a new game i started to play....like Star Ocean Second Story...im like 7 hrs into, and it keeps track of your fights, i have had 250 fights already, and i still havent even gotten onto the 2nd disc of this game but i dont care because i havent played the game before....

Hmm....this reminds me of Breath of Fire 2, I had over 750 battles in less then ten hours....thats alot considering I beat breath of Fire 4 with under 600 battles.

Let's hear it for good old-fashioned unbearably high encounter rates!
The clichd plot you brought up, ultimate veggie is an RPG staple. You won't now, and probably never will find many games in the genre that don't follow this plotline slightly, or precisely.
If you're really itching for a one-man ass-kicking fest in an RPG, you could just settle for Zelda. ;) For something more "revolutionary", try Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (psx), or the god-like "dungeon crawler", Vagrant Story (psx). You either love or hate the latter.

Why change something (the story/plot in this case) if it works and sells enough. Devolpers want to make good games ofcourse and will try to be original as possible, but they want to sell as well and the easiest way of doing that is just falling back on the 'RPG-rules'
It's a bother sometimes and sometimes it isn't.
See I think that without repitition (at least some) they'd be crap. At least series should stay the same. It pisses me off when Square goes and makes the next game in a series radically different from the previous ones. (i.e. Legend of Mana, FF8, FFX, ect.)
But on the other hand in some games it's kind of a letdown. While RPG gameplay was getting better in FF3j gameplay was at a standstill in Dragon Quest 4. Very sad. It'd be okay if it wasn't an annoying and hard to play system but yeah. (don't get me wrong, I love Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior games and will defend them to the death)
So I think it just depends on the RPG in question, really.
