Would you dress up (or have you already) as a Final Fantasy character and post photos of yourself on the web?

If you would, who would you dress as, and why?

In art this year our first project is textiles. I am making Yuna's normal clothes, as one of our choices was a costume. Coincidentally, I'm having my hair cut like Yuna's sometime too. So I would dress up as her! I'm not sure about posting the pics, but.... you never know :D

So yay, what about you guys?

Eh, I'm already hard at work 2 other costumes for seperate cosplays, so I don't forsee a FF one in the very near future. But if I were to do one I'd probabally do Terra Branford or Celes Chere.
Terra Branford is of course, my favorite, it wouldn't be hard to make at all, and I have been told I resemble her. Celes Chere is one I've wanted to do for a long time. Her costume as Amano drew it is beautiful, and very sexy. Now that pants with the stitching like that are becoming trendy, I may just be able to get my hands on a pattern I could pull that off with.

I've cosplayed as:

Irvine (FF8)
Laguna (FF8)
Sephiroth (FF7)
Cloud (FF7)
Vincent (FF7)

I don't know if I have any of the pcitures taken, and the only costume of those I own is the Cloud costume...which is probably my worst cosplay. I look better as Seph, Irvy, Vince and Laguna (probably 'cause of the hair).

I'm in the process of making the White Mage's robe (from FFIIIj) myself, along with Tseng of the Turks (From FFVII - he's probably the best dressed out of them). At the moment however, the only FF costume reasonably complete is Cloud. I have a top and pants. I need to get some leather boots, and to make up his shoulder armour and cumerbund, along with a sword too. But I really want to cosplay the White Mage first.

I'll post pics of all these costumes on my site below when I've finished them!

Cosplay done well isn't scary. But I have seen a few that disturbed me too.

At any rate, I just recalled that I have pictures of my brothers doing some cosplay lying around, and I'll try to get them up here if my scanner will behvae itself. I have pictures of my one brother as both Zell and Setzer, and my other brother doing a great cosplay as Frog/Glenn from Chrono Trigger.

I would like to do a Sephiroth cosplay but I doubt I will ever do one. I have seen a VERY GOOD!! cosplay on Aeris though which can be found on the internet (I'm not gonna tell just look harder).

I'm with TFA on this one, it proves that your abit too obsessive, and is quite well.....sad, i've seen some crap cosplay, just goto Google Images and type in 'Final Fantasy Cosplay', they just don't do the characters justice.
But its up to you, but I find it quite weird. O_o o_O O_o o_O

Cosplay is alright, as long as it's done properly.. I've seen some really sad and incorrect costumes.
Also, I find it weird to see a well.. fat person cosplay a slender build character. That's just not right. XD

If I'd ever cosplay an FF character, it'd be Beatrix. She's just.. cool. And has a neat costume, too. ^_^

I think cosplaying is a cool idea, but I would never do it because I don't look like any FF characters. (There's a noticeable lack of short, fat, glasses-wearing FF characters.)

I once saw a picture entitled "Why you don't want to resurrect Aeris." It was a pic of someone cosplaying as Aeris, only she was drenched in fake blood and had used makeup to make her skin look discolored and corpse-like. It was really disturbing.

I haven't cosplayed in my life, but I've seen it done. Sometimes I find it a bit sick when somebody who tries to cosplay a character but they are so not right for it (like Nymph said). This year I plan to try my first cosplay...I was thinking about doing either Rinoa or Yuna.

Nah not me I just cant pull it off right, I tried squall once but I looked like Fonzy instead. Lol.

Anyways the most disturbing cosplay Ive seen is my friend (a dude) dressed up as Rikku.

I've helped make a Lulu costume for my friend because we're going to the same Halloween party. I think it looks good on my friend. I'll be sure to take pictures and post them here, with or without her permission...x_x;;;

I've never cosplayed as any FF characters. I simply don't look like anybody in the games.

I think the worst cosplayed character is Selphie. I've only ever seen ONE good Selphie cosplay. They always get the skirt too long or are, well.... too chubby to be Selphie.

I once saw a Cid Highwing who had washing up gloves on... that was weird.
And a ~really~ bad Sephiroth...

But if you go to yuna.zanarkand.net/yuna and look in images and then cosplay, there's a really cute one. It's Tidus and Yuna, and then there's a likkle girl dressed as Yunie too! It is the CUTEST thing ever! :D

Further to my last post, a lot of cosplay is done bad unfortunatley, giving the hobby a bad name, particulary if the cosplayer is either too tall, short, fat, thin, has the wrong facial features or even the wrong gender for the character they're trying to portray!

Cosplay done right however is very good. In fact, some cosplayers have taken the hobby almost to an art form (for instance there's a girl on the FF Online Forums who has cosplayed Aeris so perfectly, she almost is Aeris!. Plus, there is no denying the fact that cosplay is a fun hobby, something I can defientely verify, being a participant in it myself. I've only cosplayed once though; at an end-of-year party at my local anime club a few weeks ago, where I cosplayed the White Mage from FFI (as I said I was planning on doing in my earlier post), and the result is pretty good:

and:

Generally the standard of cosplay at that event was of a very high standard (incidently I was the only FF cosplayer at the event), however, there were of course a few examples of bad cosplay, probably the worst being an... 'aquaintence' of mine who, although having a costume of high quality, his choice of character was just all wrong, and you can see why:

*shudders* Uggh... I don't think I'll ever watch Love Hina in the same way again....

01-17-2003, 11:53 AM
Hehehe, Enki, you do look pretty good in that get-up. :)

Meh, I've never cosplayed in my life, and I doubt I ever will. I wanted to dress up as Tifa one year for Halloween when Roy had a V-Max (you know, the Hardy Daytona bike...) but of course, I have no time to dress up and Tifa's kinda got a boring costume, anyway.

I think the only character I might be able to pull off is Dagger. I have her long, dark hair, her brown eyes, and the same small body type she has. But I doubt I'd actually look that good if I actually DID pull it off.

And yes, most Kuja cosplayers I've seen. Yikes. There are a few good ones I've seen, though, but some... *shudders* XD

I've never cosplayed, but i'd really like to.

I either wanna be Terra from FFVI or FF1 White Mage.

Well, I'd rather be White Mage. Been dying to be white mage for a LOOOOOOOONG time. But I suck at sewing. So if anyone wants to help me out, then leave me a PM.

Enkidoh
01-23-2003, 07:18 PM
Heh, thanks!

I originally planned for the robe to be ground length, but my mother's friend, who made the costume for me, ran slightly short of material, and so it ended up reaching to just above ankle level.

Even at ankle length, it still looked right, and I was impressed at how good the costume turned out. The only problem I found was the hood wouldn't stay up, as it really needed a cord on it to hold it in place. Oh well, that can always be fixed.

Anyway, Kuro, don't let that stop you from attempting cosplay. I think you'd probably make a great Garnet/Dagger. Besides, if anything, if I can cosplay a passable White Mage (and I'm someone who normally has NO dress sense whatsoever lol), in a short time, for a small amount of money, little effort, and even less experience, then I'm sure anyone can cosplay well!

Thanks for the positive comments though. ^^ It's a shame the camera couldn't get all of me, I have the same exact shoes too..:( Oh well.

Pretty cool Konema!

Yeah, pity the lighting was poor, but then, the images could always be lightened in a photo editor (I brighten up images a lot, after converting the JPEG into BMP format, of course, as I find a lot of the cosplay pics on sites like Fansview are extremely dark, so dark in fact that the subject can hardly be seen!).

Still, you made a good Vincent! By the way, have you thought about doing Vincent in his Turks outfit? I always liked the Turks costumes, speaking of which, I'm actually planning on cosplaying Tseng eventually, when I have the time that is.

Koenma
02-24-2003, 11:46 PM
Thanks for the comments Enkidoh. :) It encourages me to do more.

By the way, I saw your white Mage cosplay. Absolutely excellent. You're an exact image of the White Mage, I swear.

Yeah, I could try to brighten the photos in PhotoShop or something...

And I have thought about doing Vincent as a Turk...but it may be a bit hard. =\ I can try though.

Once again, thanks for the comments. ^^ And againn, you make an excellent White Mage. And good luck on doing Tseng. :)
