Depends on the subforum. In General Discussion, where new threads are created regularly, the expectation is that you won't revive a thread that's no longer on the front page--which usually means something that's more than a week old.
In the Final Fantasy subforums, not a lot of new threads are created. There, you probably shouldn't revive a thread that's more than six-months old.
In the Downloads subforum, uploaders appreciate thanks, even if the thread is old, and it's generally okay to ask someone to re-upload an old file if you check and see that they still log in regularly.
Generally speaking, the moderators just ask that you check the dates on the posts before you respond and, if it's old, think about the nature of what you're writing. If you're trying to have a conversation with a 3-year old post, the thread is going to be locked and you're going to be reprimanded. If you're trying to get a file from someone who already posted that file a year ago, and that person is still around, that's okay (although you can just PM them, too).
