Hold on, what a stream rip? Huh?

Yes.

Atlantic, the record label releasing the soundtrack album authorized it to be put up online for free, and the musicme.com site was first (at least the first one anyone noticed) and the actual avatarscore.com site will have it streaming for free tomorrow as well.

That it's streaming only in that quality, roughly 128 or so kbps mp3 with no way of actually downloading the streams is part of it being free. Wouldn't make sense to have it up in perfect quality for free. Whoever put this together just recorded the streams as they played back, but messed it up because it was recorded too loud and is full of clipping. They should have turned the playback volume down to avoid that.

It wouldn't have mattered. The source was full of clipping. The disadvantage of streaming. This is not meant to be a quality rip to replace your CD copy. If you want the best quality, buy the CD. Be happy right now they released the music so early to preview and that someone made it easier to preview.

I must agree, the quality could be better. But that is better than nothing.

Umm, no.

The source was not full of clipping, because I recorded it myself before downloading your link to have a listen for comparison's sake.

In fact my recording was very low in volume and was never clipped - the only trouble I had was having to re-record a couple of cues because of the pops in the streaming.

I re-recorded them again today from the actual Avatar soundtrack website since the quality was better than the french website. It'll make a good placeholder until Tuesday, because there's no way in hell I'm settling for my recording when I can be blasting the actual CD in all its sonic clarity.

WOW! I wished more soundtracks like this would come out.

I love it. Real orchestra, real choir, real vocals, real brass, ...

After all this techno and synth enhanced scores we finally get something that's almost pure and orchestral this year. And it even has got emotional themes. Amazing: instant 10/10 for me.

If this is what movie scores where in the old days (never listened to scores back then) then I want to go back immediately :)

Very good score, although it's Horner and you can hear previous work in this one(Mighty Joe Young for example). But after listening Sherlock Holmes (there are 2,5 minutes available) it doesn't matter - at lest it's real, not made on computer. Keep it up James!

No way - to wait so much? Tuesday + something about 3 month of shipping in Russia (and about 25% to it's price)... Or DHL - and 40% to price. :ohgod: No, I will wait 'till somebody upload it, and buy as real CD next year, when it'll appear in every music store in my city :D

Yeah, some cue sounded a lot like his work on Troy and The Missing. Excellent score nonetheless.

I listened to the amazon samples and it was brilliant, a few of James themes snuck in and instruments as well.
Where'd you the bonus track Itunes?

The "bonus" track is from the Avatar soundtrack website. It can't be downloaded but it's easy to record it.

I think Horner was at times very blatant with his theme reusage like the danger motif(you'll recognize it as the very beginning of "Surprise Attack" from Wrath of Khan) or the Glory theme. I love it! It makes the score more interesting, imo.

As for "I see You", the sound clips made it seem like a meh rehash of My Heart Will Go On, but I really like it. I'm hoping for a best original song nod.

Thanks for this download. :)

This score is Horner's best in a while....but missing some great cues from the movie. Hopefully they'll release a "part 2" score (like Titanic) that includes the Quarich vs. Sully fight cue from the end of the movie; it's amazing.
