Discuss them in this thread.

For those interested in emulating these games, HERE IS HOW:
Heart Gold ROM
http://ds.rom-news.org/d1wn/4168

Soul Silver ROM
http://ds.rom-news.org/d1wn/4169

After you have your ROM file, download the translation for your ROM:
Heart Gold
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PPQI68VY

Soul Silver
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GTU1INKS

Both include localized and katakana versions. The only difference between the two are the names of the Pokemon. This is not a complete translation. Most dialogue remains untranslated (I think Nurse Joy is the only person with translated speech), but pretty much everything else is in English (items, pokemon, attacks, etc.).

After you have successfully patched your ROM with the translation, download this (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JP3HYBTO) patch. Installing this patch is easy:
Open the .exe with the leaf icon and press the middle button when the window pops up to search for your ROM. When it asks you if you want to replace your ROM, say yes.

Beware that you must apply these patches to a clean ROM. You can not overwrite one patch with another.

Patching the game this way has not lead to a single freeze in the four hours or so I've been playing. I am playing Heart Gold, but it works just the same for Soul Silver.

That is all you need to do if you're playing on a flash cart, but if you're emulating the game on no$gba 2.6a there's one more step.

Firstly, if you don't have no$gba you can download it here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7HMKHFCT). If you find the windows are too small in no$gba to make the game playable, download myZoom (http://rs626.rapidshare.com/files/211835211/myZoom-1-8-36-Unicode.7z) to bump up the size a bit. Next, you need to download this fix (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FYHY0IFJ). It is required to get past a black screen at the beginning of the game after you name yourself. Instructions on installation and where to put what files where are included.

That's all, I think.

The last Pokemon game I bought was Crystal. I have a DS and I don't even have a Pokemon game for it :(. I don't know why I don't want to get it either...

Wow, I didn't even know this was happening. Is it anything more than an overhaul of the interface/graphics?

Well obviously I can't read the story but it's got the same rival setup as the other fourth gen games, with Silver being the evil one and Gold being the friendly one (or the girl if you pick Gold). The maps have changed a little bit but nothing major yet. I haven't hit Kanto but I hear it's a lot more fleshed out since DS carts aren't as limited as the old gameboy ones. A lot of the old legendaries are in this game (http://serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/legends.shtml) and the first and third gen starts are available to you after you do certain things. Also, the game is quite a bit harder now too, I think. Lance's pokemon are all 70+ the second time you fight him in the Elite Four, iirc.

That's all I can remember right now, but there's a lot more.

Really though, I'm just happy I can replay what I think is the best generation in really pretty graphics. The neatest feature for me is just being able to have every pokemon follow you around:

Oh and one more thing, the music is awesome. Very well done remixes of the originals.

That is pretty cool, for sure.

The main thing that I would really be interested to know about this, though, is if they've updated the game mechanics to follow 4th gen. If it has exactly the same mechanics as 2nd gen did originally I'd be a lot more interested in it, but I'm guessing they will have updated that to make it compatible with the new games.

It's all been updated to fourth gen stuff, as far as I know.

Maybe I'll get this anyway to just enjoy the single player. I kind of miss not caring about the competitive mechanics and since I don't play competitively anymore anyway I could probably pull it off.

I caught a Bellsprout but I don't want it ._.

The Pokedex has been overhauled a fair bit by the looks of it. I like the new designs:

I have just discovered on the interweb a new key item in Heart Gold and Soul Silver that...

reverts the music in the game to the beeps and boops of the originals. I'm pretty excited about this because I really, really like the original music, so it'll be nice to hear it at the click of Select.

right that does it, I am getting a DS.

or atleast emulating this...

And I'm glad to hear that the game's harder, Gold/Silver was a little too easy, especially the kanto region where all the pokemon (except Blue's) are barely over level 50.

My favorite generation! And Silver has got to be my favorite Poke-game.

I thought about importing it, but it would be pointless to play it, since I don't understand a word of Japanese.

Can't wait to get the English versions, though... Lots of great new features.

So when is it coming out in English? I would rather have a copy that I understand (because like Zulu, I don't understand Japanese).

I think they're aiming for March 2010. The unofficaly translation isn't so bad, if you're interested. Once it's done (which will take maybe two weeks?) it should have everything translated except for dialogue between characters. I dunno, I don't really play a Pokemon game for the story so this is okay with me.

I meant like a physical copy with a booklet thing too. Because I like the booklets :P.

Wise choice! Although I swapped my Quilava out for a Growlithe.

p.s. Updating the translation in the guide now.

Is there anyone who's in the know about what patches work with which flashcard? I've been grappling with SoulSilver for days, trying out various patches that claim they fix the freezing issue, with little success.

There's two different translations and several different freeze patches. I tried several different freeze patching methods with one of them but I could never get it to work properly. This one seems to be working just fine on a lot of cards though :o

I'd give you a link to both translation patches and both freeze patches but gbatemp isn't working for me right now.
