My brother and nephew have been wanting a PS3 for a while. I text him this morning about the slim and have not hear back. He should be happy about the price drop too. As for me, I'm not liking the matted black texture and new "PS3" logo.

Sounds a little too good to be true. Specifically, the BC. How much compatibility are we talking about, does anyone know? The price is still nice(and I might get one for Christmas for the PS3 games I have...long story), but it would be nice not to clutter up my limited space with two systems instead of one.

I just remembered the newer PS3s are designed a little different then the original PS3s when upgrading an HDD, but same basic principal. I found that out after I upgraded my newer PS3. That video shows the older system.

Is the PS3 that was part of the Metal Gear Solid bundle the newer or older model?

1: They shouldn't remove the option to install other OSes.
2: Return PS2 and PS1 compatibility
3: Remove region protection. I'm serious. They pretty much lied when the say that the PS3 is region free when in fact only PS3 games that are released at this moment are region free. The PS3 can enforce BD region codes on PS3 games if the game is programmed to, and BD movies, DVD movies, PS2 and PS1 games are still region-locked (if the machine supports PS2 and PS1 games at all. Apparently the newer batches doesn't at all).

4: Allow anyone to buy from the Playstation store. Locking Malaysia out but allowing rich neighbour Singapore to access is just not fair, particularly since there are a lot of Malaysians who're willing to pay the money to buy from the store.
5. Also, sell the NTSC/UC units in Malaysia instead of the NTSC/J ones like they currently do. They think their target audience are otakus. Wrong. I had to import my PS2 from the US because I needed the NTSC/UC version to access my imported copy of Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Game and Franklin: A Birthday Surprise just because those don't work on NTSC/J PS2s and they're not released in the NTSC/J region, and oh, I don't want to deal with Japanese text ever again since The Stanman Incident (this actually links back to 3. And yes, those two games are the only reasons I swallowed my pride and bought a PS2).

I'll agree with this since I really want to play Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix which is only available in Japan. Gay.

I wish I could trade my current PS3 for the slimmer version. Bigger (space wise) hard drive and uses less power.

Looks like I'll be getting a Slim PS3 now instead of the fat one. I was always planning on getting a PS3 sooner or later, but it costs way too much.

$300 is still a bit pricey, but I guess I'll focus on getting this after a new laptop and half-stack.

Best Buy currently has 80GB PS3s with LittleBigPlanet and Wall-E for $299. Technically that would be a $210 PS3, $60 game and $30 movie. Do it!

Id say go for MGS4 and Killzone 2 PS3 Pack.

I'd say the MGS4 and KZ2 pack, but I believe those are gone. LBP and Wall-E is worth owning anyway.

I had a choice of either a 360 Elite or PS3. I chose a 360 because none of my friends had a PS3. I used some of my grant money for the 360. I was planning on getting a PS3 last year but I needed glasses. And because I have no insurance, I paid around $350. So my plan on getting a PS3 was thrown out the window. But now that my job hunt is over, I can finally get the shit I want and then some.

Yeah, the MGS4 Bundle was discontinued about a year or so ago. Glad I was able to get one before they were completely gone. I ebay'ed MGS4 game though.

My 360 elite came with an HDMI cable and component. I use the HDMI for my Blu-Ray player because the fucking thing didn't come with one. At least I can play and watch in full 1080p.

I thought the same thing too. The official HDMI cable for the PS3 was like... $70 at Best Buy and Fry's Electronics, but then one day, I was in a Blockbuster Video and saw the same thing brand new for $49.99. Guess it depends on where you look, or in my case, run into it...

That's the drawback on the current PS3s, no worries.

My PS2 is modded anyways and I still play it so I'm not worried about the PS3 Slim not being able to play PS2 games.

With both systems dropping to 299, I'm in a bit of a bind, because I've put off getting either until now, and I have the money, so....

My girlfriend is really wanting to upgrade to a HDTV, and I would like to be able to watch high def movies on it if we're going to get it, so the blu-ray capacity of the PS3 appeals to me, but the actual library doesn't impress me all that much. Having said that, I don't have much time for gaming these days, and I play on the PC a lot, so this is not too big of an issue. The few games I will be spending quite a bit of time with on either system are fighting games (SFIV, blazeblue, king of fighters, etc.), so the deciding factor may be the online communities for these. If they are about the same for either system, then I may go with the PS3 for the blu-ray (I don't want to buy a separate blu-ray player, at least not at this time), however, I've heard that the online experience is better for the 360. This may sway me in favor of the 360 (and the superior library of games does not hurt either).

I'm quite torn. Any thoughts?

Honstly either way you go you'll benefit. The online is better for xbox360, you might just want to stick with a silver membership which is free, it gives you most of the features, you just can't play online. As far as movies XBOX360 has a huge movie library thanks to Netflix, they're HD not sure how they compare to BR though, never seen Blu-Ray. But if you want the Gold membership 50 bucks for a year will cover you. It's like >5 dollars a month for some really neat features. Either way you can't go wrong. Thanks for reminding me though, I need to buy a BR drive soon (and a new desktop or laptop)

I'm currently saving for a new laptop. But after that, I might start saving for a PS3. If I save every penny, I can get one in 3 weeks (I get paid weekly). And if I get overtime, I might be able to get it in just one week.
