And…might be a bubble burster but it’s also for PC. No 360 though, sorry. 🙁
Guess this means I won’t be playing it…
I can’t wait!
its called FFXIII.
and to hell with FFXIV
I think it’s pretty funny. But I won’t get upset if it does go to 360.
its called FFXIII.
I already said that.
Yeah, and really I should have nothing to be upset about as I don’t really play MMOs anymore and Xbox 360 now have the Star Ocean series.
Also this’ll probably be released on PC no doubt.
No doubt at all. Official site has it listed already. TAKE THAT PS3 people. I’m swimming in your tears, etc etc.
As for a 360 version, it’s definitely possible, despite Sony’s arrogant statements to the contrary – all Square Enix has to do is port the PC version, it’s what they did with the 360 version of FFXI after all.
lol it won’t be. But maybe after this is released, FFXI will be come free. One can only hope~
Most retarded idea ever.
They won’t. Maybe I should’ve ported this tidbit over sooner.
I don’t think they would cancel a game they’re in the midst of porting to PS3. XIV will most likely run alongside FFXI like EQ and EQ2 manage to coexist.
Edit: Confirmed during SE’s Q&A this morning.
Interestingly:
-XIV is NOT set in Vana’diel although it uses the same races
-does NOT use PlayOnline although you can transfer your friendlist
-will have a public beta
-will NOT replace FFXI (citing another full year of content for FFXI)
-will use worldwide cross-platform servers
-might not be restricted to just PC/PS3
I read most of this picking through G4TV’s liveblog: http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696020/Live-Blog-Square-Enix-E3-2009-Press-Conference.html
Play it on the PC, bro!
TBH I thought the trailer looked amazing. I am half hoping the actual gameplay is good, and half hoping it sucks, because I don’t have time to play an MMO at all!
They will also be maintaining/returning (however you look at it) to their Medieval roots.
I also have read that XI will by no means be shut down, especially since it has a years worth of development yet to be released.
And from the trailer I have gathered that the new world will be called Eorzea.
Well they’ve been working on XIV for the past 5 years, and in that time they produced several games, so I wouldn’t think they are limited in what they can or will release.
And with XI they still gave us X, X-2, Compilation of VII, and XII.
Though I didn’t know Chrono games were still being produced, anything is possible these days 😛

The main reason the "Dream Team" hasn’t gotten together today to actually make a Chrono break or official Cross sequel is because they have been all preoccupied working on XI, and different teams worked on the various compilation of VII games, which is why they were all released very close in date. If the same team is in fact working on XIV then we can pretty much stop holding our breaths for a new Chrono title (not a port i.e. Chrono Trigger DS).
I re-watched the E3 announcement for it on Demand and he did say "PS3 ONLY", however, it is being released for the PC, I believe that has been confirmed.
If it is free, that would truly be a wonderful thing.
The only reason I quit XI was because of money. Sure it’s fun, but it never ends o_o
I like to play a game that I know will end, however, if it’s free, I’ll play it as much as I can.
If it does cost, I wonder how much more than XI it would be… or will XI get a discounted price?
I’d actually like to be on XI the day XIV is released just to see how many people are online that day XD That would be funny to see.
Also…. why is there no news about Versus? I expected them to reveal SOMETHING more about it at E3….. even just a little more. I want to know when they’re going to decide we’re worthy enough to deserve it here in the States….. *not bitter at all*
But we are in the age of the online game.
The games really are awesome ideas, especially with the Tetra Master, brilliant!
But online gaming is the ‘big thing’ these days, and I think anyone and everyone is going to milk it as best as they can.
I mean… they made a Matrix Online game for crying out loud X_x
As amazing as I’m sure XIV will be, I agree it should be off the roman numeral game franchise.
Take note that whenever they say "This game will be made exclusive to the PS3." They really mean "We haven’t made it for the PC or Xbox 360 yet."

Impressions…
Races are exactly the same as in FFXI with entirely superficial changes. Elvaan are now the Elezen, Humes are now Hyur, etc. and it seems again neither Galka or Mithra have playable members of the opposite sex. I’m not too thrilled about that.
Equipping certain weapons changes how you look and your available skill set. It’s not like FFXI’s job system. And it’s not limited to adventuring jobs, also crafting and "gathering" activities like fishing. Sounds kind of cool (reminds me of a SaGa game) like you’ll be able to change proficiencies on the fly as the situation requires.
Teleporting evidently plays a big part, which I think is great. It took forever to get anywhere in FFXI even if you could teleport.
Sounds ok so far. Hope there’s a beta though.
For the meanwhile, Mabinogi will have to suffice.

There was an article on IGN that said this game would be more solo inclined and tailored for both players who like to solo & group party, once you got to the mid 50’s on FFXI that seek flag could be up a long time depending on your job… And I just didn’t have the time to sit there in Jeuno for 14 hours straight hoping to get a party that was good enough to do chains and keep going with xp.
What is the combat system like?
The development team won’t say, but it did confirm to us that… Additionally, the heavy team-play aspect of FF11 has been deemphasized, and now exploration and battle is said to be more balanced between solo and team play.

Hope this is a valid statement, cause solo factor would help the numbers in my opinion.
All classes can solo, the rate at which they gain exp varies dramatically depending on the job though. Bard for example is really weak and takes forever to kill shit compared to Blue Mage which destroys crap. That said, most classes complement each other fairly well so as long as you have at least one friend the hit on exp for duoing is not bad at all and mobs will die that much faster. They upped the exp gain from Easy Prey through to Even Match mobs recently and with the advent of Fields of Valor you can now kill a quota of mobs and receive an exp bonus and points which can be used to purchase buffs such as regen, refresh, reraise, food, etc which help you solo even more efficiently. On top of that you have your Fellow which levels with you and can be set as tank, healer, or DD job. Parties are also way easier to find now with the advent of Level Sync’ing and if you’re happy to gimp your weapon skills, and level them at a later time, then you can rake in sick exp at 35-39 in East Ronfaure (S) killing Colibris.
Also, FFXIV will cater to a whole new target audience, since it wont be as ‘hardcore’.

I haven’t played XI since fall of 2005, and that’s what has happen to the game? lmfao, Now I want to get back! Don’t get me wrong there were times I liked the ‘hardcore’ factor, but wow, they really overhauled it. I was still under the impression only beast could solo. I liked what they did with jobs, can’t wait to see the new DRK & DRG in FFXIV (saying they’re in it), they just need to leave things alone with this new game and not nerf everything to hell that was good like they did with XI.
The ball was set rolling with the addition of the Experience Rings (Empress Band, Chariot Band and Emperor Band) that have a special effect that grants a bonus amount of experience on top of regular EXP gained, for a certain period.
Then there was the exp bonus effect granted with Sanction in the Aht Urhgan areas (as part of the third expansion Treasures of Aht Urhgan), the ability to call a ‘fellow’ (basically an NPC fighter who fights alongside you, like a pet), the addition of new Jobs that allow soloing easier in itself (namely Dancer), an increase in exp gained from monsters that check as ‘easy prey’ and ‘decent challenge’, and other things.
However, it was with the introduction of the Allied Campaign system as part of the fourth expansion Wings of the Goddess along with the recent ‘Fields of Valour’ system that finally made it truly possible to effectively solo your character from level 1 all the way to 75. However, that being said, exp parties are still the fastest and most effective way of levelling. It’s just players finally have a viable alternaltive.
No doubt this was all introduced merely to stem the bleeding of players leaving FFXI for World of Warcraft, but it’s still very much appreciated. Not to mention it would have all been valuable experience for Square Enix when they first started designing FFXIV.

I might just get this game, mostly depending on price.
Edit: article (http://www.vg247.com/2009/08/20/ffxiv-discussions-with-microsoft-holding-up-360-version/)
Oh, and luckily it’s not a Japan first thing. Worldwide release this time, which is great for an MMO because it sucked to start FFXI alongside max level Japanese players.
I like how they talk about the guildleaves! XD It’s very cool and diferent in many MMO.
Also, monthly subs… Not sure how well that will work out for them on consoles. I know a lot of people say they want MMOs on consoles, but I can’t quite believe they know what playing an MMO means compared to the itinerary of your average PS3/360 gamer.
Anyway, it’d be great to get some discussion, Zyuu, instead of just a link back to your forum.
Edit: I’m not sure I entirely grasp the Guildleves thing yet.
Thoughts on the info where there won’t be a job system, but instead a class one?
Well, considering FFXI players on PS2 and 360 haven’t had too much trouble adjusting to monthly subscriptions, (not to mention all the 360 owners begging Blizzard to port WoW to 360 too), I’d say console owners are fairly competent to handle another subscription-based MMO. 😉
I’m kind of looking towards Champions Online to see how well a p2p MMO is received by the console-only crowd. CO will have more advantages than FFXI’s console launch: consoles today are built a lot more like PCs so there are largely no optional add-ons to buy just to get the game working.

I have never played a MMO before, but based on the information you posted and the simple fact that I am a noob, it sounds exciting that I will be playing with other people online. Thanks Zyuu for sharing.
