I always liked the look of Odin in FFIX. He looks so swish in this one and his sword and horse looks more bad-arse too.

I also thought Ark looked pretty sweet . His animation reminded me of Transformers :D. His attack was strong too, but obviously way too long.

Overall I liked most of the stronger Eidolons, but not really the weaker ones like Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit etc. They didn't look right to me.

And in relation to the post #1, Carbuncle has more moves than Fenrir. Four, I think. Reflect, haste, protect and vanish or something. I'm sure others know the specifics.

I enjoyed the water attack in this game, so my pick would go with Leviathan.

I've liked him since FFVIII, so I used his attacks a lot in this game.

And everyone loves Carbuncle!!!!! Cutie little green critter! He always came in handy when trying to take care of all your characters at one time.

I agree with a lot of people here...Bahamut is a pretty neat Eidolon.

But...I also *heart* Leviathan! I guess I'm sort of a water person...but it's FMVs are pretty great.

odin was the best. just because his attack has the coolest name. and of course because it casts death on everyone.

My favorite Eidolon would have to be Bahamut. I mean Ark was cool and all, but his summoning sequence was just TOO long. Also, I found that both Ark and Bahamut did the same amount of damage, but Ark can only do shadow damage while Bahamut does non-elemental damage. This is better in my opinion because Bahamut can really lay the smackdown on shadow-type enemies like Ozma while Ark just does minimal damage, if any at all.

I liked Shiva. I've liked her since I first saw her in FF7 then in ff8,9,10,5,4,6 (in that order).

Carbunkle in 9 was screwey. He was all deformed and stuff...

I never really used the eidolons in FF9... Except Bahamut and Madeen occaisonally... Pah!

But my fave is Carbunkle, cuz its soooooooo cuuuuuuuuuute!

Shiva, Atomos, Odin, Bahamut, and Ark, are my favs'. Most attractive - Shiva, of course. Every FF she improves, and FFIX was no different.

Coolest Scene - Bahamut being summoned by Brahne and going up against Kuja, only for the maniac to use the Invincible and turn the king of the dragons against his summoner, wiping out Brahne's fleet completely. The look on Brahne's face as she saw Bahamut's berserk and horrifying form towering over her was brilliant! Plus, the scene of Bahamut versus ALexander was brilliant also.

Runners up - Odin destroying Cleyra with Gungnir and Atomos vacuming up Lindblum like a Hoover!

Coolest Summon animation- definetely Ark. Can anyone say 'mecha'? Even if it was over the top, it was a brillaint attack nothenless.

Mine is the ARK and this bahamut character he is good too but on ffX he doesnt look good but he is good here and ark is the best on this game

I was suprised at how little damage Ark did (unless i missed something) so i use Madain and Bahamut

I like Bahamut and Madain......But to look on the more unrealistic side, I would like Alexander and Invincible

among the useable eidolon... i'd say ark just for the looks. i never used that for damage anyway only used it to get time for regen to heal my party to full hp.

I hardly ever used my Eidolons but my favorite either way has always been Bahamut. I mean, he does a great amount of damage and when its the FMV sequence he looks hella cool :D

the movie forms are awesome. but in game my favs are odin and ark, YAE gundam looking thing! super cool.

My favorite usuable eidolon would be BAHAMUT. Hell he is just kick ass in every FF game he's in.

I also liked how the eidolons were in the FMV's in FFIX, Odin destroying Cleyra, Atomos destroying Lindblum, but my favorite Alexander protecting Alexandria and getting destroyed by Invinceable. Too bad Alexander was'nt playable in IX. He was one of my favorite GF's in VIII, but at least he had a big part in IX:) .

Atomos is TEN TIMES better than Bahamut because
1. it is real easy to get 100 ametheyists for a constant 100% damage
2. u do this for a lot less mp than bahamut
Ark is cool gor the first couple times u use him but u can do much more damage with other summons for about 1/100 of the time

first of all, Odin is better than Madeen and Bahamut put together because BOOST ABILITY + ODIN'S SWORD ability + ZANTETSUKEN = Instant death to everybody, and if not, then 9999 hp damage to the survivors.
the only reason he's not better than Atotmos is because atomos dont need all those abilities to equip, but equipping them for odin is worth it.

the classic summons are really cool but news should appear more often instead of put more more and more news. I want to see madeen again he really rocks it's like a demon-like mogle. and Diablos was cool with it's gravity attacks, and I miss palidor from ff6. they all shoul make their return in the next generation final fantasies

I never managed to get ark. It was too difficult... :-( But I personally thought Atamos PWN3D everthing. He was funny. And purple. And he resembled a hoover. Which was funny. Bahamut was good too. Carbuncle was just screwy. He looked better in 8. Madeen was a bit weak for th MP you spent on him.

Regardless of the fact that you never get to use Alexander in battle in IX, it looks the best, I think. All the summons actually look a lot better in IX in comparison to the other games. Out of ones you can use? Odin. :)

I was able to use Shiva and Ifrit on disc2 I think it was. In Treno's underground.
My faves in the game are Ramuh and Phoenix.
They are two quite simple summons but effective. Ramuh's animation sequence is short and he always does a good amound of damage. Phoenix looks cool and is really useful!

Likewise. He was the ultimate, non-recurring Summon in the game, like Knight of the Round (aka KoR) in VII or Eden in VIII. Ark should've done multiple damage numbers, like KoR, with as many attacks as he did.

A giant robot transforming out of a classic, wooden, rotor blade-propelled airship! Love it! And the earth incineration is so reminiscent of stuff like Dragon Ball Z!

BTW, it's "Eidolon," which means "Ghost." Summons are essentially apparitions summoned from another dimension.

There is some controversy of which eidolon is better: Madeen or Ark. While Ark costs 80mp, Madeen costs 120. Ark is shadow element and Madeen is Holy. Which is better though? The answer comes through the amount of time it takes to finish the Eidolon's animation to deal damage which is most likely 9999 for these two.

While Ark takes roughly 60seconds to finish its animation and deal 9999, Auto-Regen can regenerate the party's hp by the time ark takes to finish, however, spells such as doom may persist and kill a character before you can kill the enemy. the amount of Lapiz Lazuli increases the damage output of Ark.

Madeen, while costing more mp to deal 9999 holy damage, has faster animation than that of Ark, meaning you can get more damage off in the time it takes Ark to finish its animation (which may also be one reason why some dagger users may opt for Bahamut, Atomos or Odin instead of Ark). Madeen's damage increases by Eiko's level, so if both ark and madeen do not cap 9999 damage yet, it is faster for ark to gain 9999 damage obtaining lapiz lazuli, rather than getting Eiko to 99.

Madeen would be the better choice for experts at this game seeing as they've played through it many times and would like to finish most battles quick and efficient, but Ark would be a good choice for those wanting to play it safe.

But by the time both Dagger and Eiko reach 99, thier magic should be very high (80+) and the damage output of any Eidolon should be dealing 9999 anyway.

So then the Eidolon with the least MP consumption would be the best eidolon to summon battle-wise, in personal choice it doesn't matter =) final fantasy IX has diverse magic SFX, not one skill is not worth seeing imo.

Personally I like madeen because of the rainbow/blueish flashy colours and the cute mog-lion mog :D. but to conserve mp, i'd go for Shiva and/or Fenrir. The animation and sound effects of ice/holy magic in IX are very appealing to me :).

If Alexander was usable i'd probably use it all the time :D.

I totally agree, the summon system is the main reason I prefer VIII to this game.

I'd probably choose Carbuncle specifically in this game because I thought it was kinda cool how they gave it a variety of secret "light"s even though I never used him.

I know I said Bahamut before...

But I actually have started to enjoy Carbuncle; considering how helpful he can be during battle, depending on the light used. It's great. Madeen is my other favorite, when it comes to Eiko's summons. With Garnets: Shiva or Leviathan. Bahamut is still there, but not as prominent.


But I prefer Garnet over Eiko. Just cause I liked Garnet's character better and preferred her trance Eidolon. Though I sometimes keep them both in the team - since they are both equally useful.

I like odin since he's attack zantetsuken causes enemies except bosses instant death.
