平沢進 (HIRASAWA Susumu) was born in Tky on 2 April 1954. In 1972 he attended 東京デザイナー学院 (Tky Designer Academy) and formed his first band Mandrake, which would last for 6 years. When MANDRAKE came to an end in 1978, only a year later P-Model was formed, a new project for which he was accompanied by 2 other ex-members of MANDRAKE.
P-MODEL was a techno-pop that, with Susumu’s genius and vision, broke down barriers and was always a step ahead of the techno boom that was occurring in Japan at the time. Susumu also launched a solo career, initially as a side-project to P-MODEL, with the album 時空の水 (Jik no Mizu) in 1989.

Hirasawa is a true master. My favourite musician, actually. When I first listened to his solo works, my life changed forever. I'm really thankful for such an experience and thankful to you for spreading his amazing work to other people. He really is the cream of the crop. I'll upload Vistoron (2006 album) later for listening pleasure.

Vistoron is P-Model, a group he is part of, that one is 2004 I think. Susumu is indeed a great musican. I will try to upload all his P model (have a fair amount so far), mandrake and osts later too.

Henry Spencer

Vistoron was actually done by Mr. Hirasawa solely, but under the name of KAKU P-Model, which is sort of a spin off of P-Model, if you will.

Sorry. I started seeding something and didn't want to stop until it was finished. Then I forgot all about this.

In any case, here are my rips. There are no bin or cue files, but rest assured I did rip them myself. If the quality isn't up to snuff, tell me and I'll re-rip them. Someone up-thread noticed that Solar Ray was incomplete. I'll have that upped, possibly sometime in the week. Blue Limbo after that unless someone wants Blue Limbo first.

Hi, I must say this man is fascinating. His music videos, and video of his concerts on YouTube, are amazing. He is so retro and futuristic at the same time. His voice is mesmerizing. I love the fact that he is retro and futuristic without resorting to trashy post-modern wims as so often the case in the west. Thank you to uploader for all these.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For the Totsu-Gen-Hen-I

Soon enough, I'll creat a torrento from my personal folder of Susumu Hirasawa, I have over 7 gigs of his work, including rare videos of early P-Model and stuffs from Hirasawa Works site.
This Demonoid Torrent is old, don't even have Planet Roll Call.

I'll let you guys know.

This would be pretty nice. I really appriciated the torrent but I was a little upset that so much of the stuff was in 128 or 160 kbps. Yeah yeah, I know beggars can't be choosers, but I've spent enough on these discs already, and it's not as though they are easy to get in the US. Right now I have the Error CD and Detonator Orgun 1 soundtrack in only 128 kbps (the 3rd one I have in 320, the 2nd I have not at all), so it would be cool to get ups of those.

I also suspect that some of the early albums (especially Virtual Rabbit and Ghost in Science) may be transcodes. I listened to Virtual Rabbit today and although it's listed as 192 it really had a compressed drum sound that is a sign of a 128 rip. Disappointing because that album is pretty good!!

If you have rare material, all the better :)

As for myself...I do have a great rip myself of the Ashu-on box-set, which AFAIK contains everything that P-Model has ever released, including some very rare stuff. I'll be happy to fill any requests.

---------- Post added at 09:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:25 AM ----------

So speaking of...anyone got good rips of Error CD or Detonator Orgun 1?

Nice...I already have the box set, but yeah this is all really worth having. I don't know much about Hirasawa and can't find too much info on him, I was wondering if anyone knew the story behind some of these non-album tracks? In particular there is that release Fukyoka-Kyoku-Shu 88 with just one song called "No Bird", which is amazing, but it's kind of a bad quality live recording. Is this on a different album? Or is it a track from a different artist? I know "Call Up Here" was written by Teruo Nakano while he was in P-Model, I'm wondering if this one is the same?

02. Sairen *Siren*

Only 7 tracks? I thought he was doing one for each solo album ?? Oh well given how good the last one turned out I can't really complain. Especially if we're getting a new version of "Bandiria Travellers" which is one of my absolute favorite SH tunes.

pnow
10-27-2010, 05:15 PM
Yeah, it kinda sucks he stopped after Technique of Relief, I wanted to vote for one from Philosopher's Propeller and Blue Limbo. But maybe he'll continue later, who knows.

Oh, I want to listen to Tobira Jima, I love how the original starts building up and the sketches for this one were pretty nice.

JAMOOL
10-27-2010, 07:14 PM
Yeah I guess you could say the same for the P-Model one too, there was only 10 tracks and it missed a few albums like Scuba, Potpurri, and P-Model or Die. Maybe they were just taking too long? I mean I haven't even heard the full album yet but judging by the tracks I've heard ("Chevron" and "Art Blind") these are pretty damn massive. As for this one, the Parnesian Circle one may be like 12 minutes long again, so at least there's that. I really wanted "Snow Blind" though :(

---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:48 PM ----------

That said I really love this thread, can we get some discussion about the albums? Like, which are your favorite/least favorite?

I'm going through the discography chronologically, and I'm only up to Aurora (1994) so I haven't heard as much but so far going through the P-Model boxset and the SH albums I've found has been a revelation. The man is straight up amazing. Some observations:

The song "No Bird" in the box set is incredible. Although it is actually just kind of a remake of "Be in a Fix".

Some of the P-Model albums seem to have some really neat production things going on - Karkador is one of the best produced synthpop albums I've ever heard, while Perspective is very claustorphobic (perhaps intentionally so). Sometimes he seems to really drop the ball though (Scuba sounds terrible, and his first three solo albums have very strange compression effects on the percussion).

The 1992 album P-Model is in a very different style than anything previously done, but listening to it again I'm noticing that the songwriting is very similar to In a Model Room!

Tetragrammaton / Susumu Hirasawa+InhVmaN

"Watching the darkness to find the light."
Hirasawa collaborated with Riccardo Brett, an Italian death metal vocalist and a music producer. He is a multiplayer who is primarily noted for a vocalist and also the organizer of InhVmaN which is the project of electronic dark music. The collaboration between Italian destructive dark voice and Japanese high tone voice and symphonic sound invented a new genre of music. That is to say "Electro dark symphony".

Hello guys, first time posting on here. I was finally able to find uploads for Totsu-Gen-Hen-I and Hen-Gen-Jizai here, thanks for that, took me a while to find them. My question though is if anyone managed to get a hold of that Tetragrammaton album, where he collaborates with an Italian metal artist. I have only been able to find the sample of the one song so far, so I figured I'd at least ask in here and see if anyone has come across it yet.

Not a problem, pnow.

I've uploaded each individual album (in FLAC, in RAR archives) to filevo now. They're displayed out of order since I did batch uploads and they didn't complete in perfect order. I'm considering uploading a single 7GB RAR also, for convenience.

They are here (http://filevo.com/users/SkaarjBirk/891/Ashu-on%20%28Sound%20Subspecies%29%20in%20the%20Solar%2 0System).

Could you check if you can access my files on filevo (http://filevo.com/users/SkaarjBirk)? If so, I'll gladly start uploading more lossy music (most is under lossless), as I probably should do that anyway (just a matter of when).

"If you register (which is free) with the coupon code "reddit" (no quotes) you will get 1 month premium free." Plus, you'll need an account to get files larger than 1GB (well, such things will change starting the 22nd).

Backseat_Jesus

yeah, download all the albums in this thread

The downloads of those albums in this thread are 192kbps rips that are transcodes of pretty bad 320kbps rips. I'm grateful for them being available at least, but I'm trying to get each release in the best possible quality I can. If I had a job, I'd just import them, but even that would still be pretty expensive. I'm considering importing a Japan itunes card, but I'm hoping there might be an easier way.

edit2: Alright. Originally I had a post that explained my reasonings for claiming that the first three albums were transcodes, but I deleted it because I wasn't happy with the explanation. I'll try again.

I checked the spectogram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrogram) of all three albums, and all three albums tend to cut beneath the frequency range 192kbps mp3 files are capable of containing, thus revealing these are transcodes. I suspect all three of these albums were originally converted from 320kbps mp3s by someone and then shared; probably because the 320kbps files were ripped with a sample rate of 48,000 Hz, which some music players have problem playing.

The problem with the 320kbps files is that they were ripped with a sample rating of 48,000 Hz. Cd audio only contains a sample rating of 44,100 Hz. Because of this, the 320kbps files sound distorted. Probably the reason why I said they sounded bad in my original post.

That does make sense. However, I do have a FLAC rip of the Essence of Hirasawa comp which has many of the same tracks and they also sound pretty bad. Unless that one was a transcode too? In fact I've d/led quite a few versions of the first three albums and none of them have sounded good. Either way - I'm not really sure where to find "proper" rips of them. Everything from Aurora on sounds great - I'm wondering if SH just used a different mastering technique from that point on (keep in mind there was a huge shift in his sound at this point). If you find a better sounding rip, could you share it? Thanks

Essence sounds crappy, but not as bad as those mp3 files. It's not a transcode. Maybe it contains pre-emphasis? I know a lot of early Japanese released CDs do.
Pre-emphasis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-emphasis) But, it also could just be because of Hirasawa's equipment choices and program choices at the time.

Don't have a better rip of any of them. Still searching for flac rips of the first three, plus Glory Wars

I may be able to provide a FLAC of Virtual Rabbit, but it doesn't sound any better. I'm starting to accept that maybe this is just the way they are. It's also apparent that not every element of the recordings sound bad - for example "Bandiria" sounds great throughout. A lot of the compressed sounds come from the drums. Also, there seem to be a lot of hiss on the vocals. It wouldn't be unprecedented - I remember ordering a few discs from a certain Punjabi singer to replace my 192 kbps rips that seemed like obvious transcodes, only to find that the sound quality really WAS that bad. Weird for a guy like SH though..

Edit: Nevermind. Misunderstood the first part of your message. As I mentioned before in my previous post, the album may have pre-emphasis, which can cause the album to sound "bright" and harsh when not properly decoded. Big problem though is that it's actually hard to properly decode(AKA de-emphasize) pre-emphasis on a pc, believe it or not. If you post it, I'll try to figure it out if it does have it.

JAMOOL
11-22-2011, 06:13 PM
sorry - I may not actually have a FLAC of it (either that or I converted it to mp3 and deleted it as I can't tell the difference between 256 kbps and FLAC) either that or I got it confused with Essence

some of the songs on Virtual Rabbit - "Bandiria" especially, do not sound like transcodes. I think you are probably right about this. there is a certain aesthetic he's going for on those three albums which is pretty badly dated anyway. Also come to think of it the only really well-produced album he did before the P-Model reformation is Karkador.
