Im not sure, i tried extracting part 1 and it was searching for part 2 so perhaps you have to download them all first, and if you already did then i have no idea

03-20-2009, 07:42 PM
Hmm, maybe that's it. Cuz I just finished downloading part three and when I opened part one there was more files. It's really strange and hard to explain. I'll keep downloading and let you know what happens.

Yes, Sakuraba's stuff can get repetitive. But it's still better than most VMG out there. Some of his rock-ish stuff can be quite painful, though.

Well im always a minority, for example the song "expiration" from SO3 is almost unanimously hated...while for me it was what got me pumped to play the game
EDIT-it doesn't work, there is an issue when it has to extract part 2, says unexpected end of archive

03-20-2009, 10:29 PM
Well I finished downloading all the parts, and alot of the songs are missing and that error still occurs. I have all the songs from 201-324, but a majority of the songs before that are missing! Help! Edit: I'm just missing disc one is all. Anyone who could upload just that disc would be greatly appreciated.

thanks so much!.
while sakuraba hasn't changed up his style in recent years it's quite ok in my opinion. his music is still fantastic.
he will evolve eventually. i think it's just because of the fact that most of his music is streamed in game nowadays, if you go and listen to the Shining the holy ark OST. you'll see that from a game from over 10 years ago the music sounds incredibly similar to what he does now. In previous years he had to deal with limitations of systems and always used system sampled music which added to the originality of the music.

I think it's not about recycling, it's about sounding. He could change at least his sample library once for a while. God, I really wouldn't guess which track is from which game now! SO4? IU? ES? BK2? Tales? He still writes for the same game, it seems that he doesn't care if the game is in deep space or in deep... forest. And why only RPG's? Damn, I can't stand those 4 hour long scores. He should release 1 CD out of every game, something like the best of, but not everything. Still, I'm not saying he's bad composer, 'cause I really like his music. He just writes too much and his style is very repetitive. So yes, he can be boring. As hell. And after all I prefer his older music, SO3, Baten Kaitos 1, Shining Force, Valkyrie Profile 1, Beyond the Beyond... great scores.

The second one sounds like a remake of the first one;). But as it is one game series than I think it's not a big problem. And after all Fly away is cool track:D.

Honestly...i can tell the difference, i can tell when im listening to a Tales track, a SO track or a VP they ACTUALLY have a distinct style, the repetition stays within the series but doesn't cross over, for example he loves the electric guitar and the electric organ (i think) for tri-ace games but the presence isn't so much in a Tales game
And yes...Fly Away in the Violet sky is my awesome song..i checked and the Arrange Mix comes out April 4th, i loved the remixes of "Incarnation of the Devil" and "Fly away in the violet sky" so i hope he comes up with the goods again

Ha. Not only "Fly Away In The Violet Sky" sounds like "Night of the Chase", but actually, "Blood On The Keys" has sections of "The True Mirror" from Baten Kaitos 1 and "The Valedictory Elegy" from Baten Kaitos 2.

Seems to be quite a divided opinion on Sakuraba's music. I'm in the "he's gotten worse" camp. SO2, VP, and Golden Sun had amazing scores. Once he got to the PS2, it all went downhill. He's right up there with Yasunori Mitsuda in producing generic OSTs that absolutely pale in comparison to what he used to dish out.
As for the reasons why, I couldn't begin to guess, just like I still can't figure out why Uematsu's style changed so drastically (for the worse) between FF6 and FF7. After Tales of Vesperia, my tolerance for Sakuraba's music reached all new lows. As such, I'll give this one a miss; I'm sure I'm not missing much.
But thanks for sharing.

Every OST has hits or misses i guess, i prefer FFVII to FFVI but as a whole i think Uematsu is overrated, i also prefer SO3's and 4's OST's to 2, VP was his best imo and 2 pales in comparison so i agree in that regard
From what i heard from Arc Rise Fantasia it seems okay (Mitsuda is the composer)
For me Sakuraba's music is like this: VP>SO>Tales in terms of the tracks
But i try not to be a Nostalgic gamer, it clouds judgment (not accusing anyone just generalizing)

Couldn't agree more. Well, actualy I always find his work on Tales games to be forgettable, but the Eternal Sonata soundtrack is by far his best work.
The main theme was stellar, the battle themes were epic and didn't feel derivative, there was only one cheesy track (DANOTSU!) and all tracks from the ending of the game are in my opinion the best Sakuraba ever wrote.
The comments regarding Sakuraba's general style in this thread reminded me of an interview a short while back with Nobuo Uematsu in which he admitted: "All my music sounds the same to me" at which I LMAO.
I agree Sakuraba's work may have its own "style" but its still quality work regardless. Thank you so much OP for the music and the documentary. Motoi Sakuraba is up there with Yasunori Mitsuda, Yuki Kajiura and Nobuo Uematsu as one of my favorite composers.

I think, Tales work nonwithstanding, Sakuraba's having a bit of a personal renassiance. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria was absolutely gorgeous, Eternal Sonata was wonderful, and this is probably the finest Star Ocean score ever created. Just give "The Eleventh Hour" a listen, or the pair of "Silk Road In The Sky" tracks. They are just amazingly well-performed and composed.
Yeah, sure, there's some remixes of old stuff in there. But that doesn't stop the fact that this is really spectacular music (other than Welch Vineyard's theme, which is pretty much unlistenable, kinda like Welch Vineyard herself).
I admit that the majority of his mid-decade stuff was bland . . . up until Valkyrie Profile 2 apparently got his creative juices flowing again.

My theory on Sakuraba's change is that after he did the score for Eternal Sonata he realized how awesome classical piano music was and decided to try and mimic that for himself.

Considering how much piano is in this OST it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's a case.
But I don't mind that at all. I LOVE the piano as a musical instrument. It can provide so many moods and have so many different paces. No person plays it the same way. My favorite anime OSTs are filled with piano solos, incidentally. The piano can be uplifting, energetic, and happy, or slow, sad, and dejected. It is just a versatile instrument and I'm disappointed that so few composers use the piano's potential in worldwide TV shows, games, and cartoons (yes this includes anime).

Thank you very much!! :-)
There are some really good tracks.
I love Sakuraba-Style like "Dont be a hero", "Seeker", "Like The Wind", "Blood on the keys", "Memories in the earth", "Purge Thyself".
"Silk Road in the Sky II" is also pretty cool for listening.
I think his older music style was better. Valkyrie Profile, Baten Kaitos, Star Ocean 2 are my favorites. Most tracks were just great for listening everyday :-)
Newer work only a few tracks are great to listen, the rest is ok while playing the game. But some are really bad. :(
Infinite Undiscovery had some great tracks.
