It's allright. The gameplay is really slow and dull, but the magic system is cool, and the story is badass. Ultimately though, it didn't interest me enough to make me want to buy it... one rental was enough. I kinda wanna know the rest of the story but not that much.

The thing is, it made me wish someone would do a game like this truly well for once. ED got some things right - good story, good controls, etc. But I want something more Zelda-ish. Something where you really go questing, and where the combat is fast, instense, and a really important part of the gameplay. I say, give the player a ton more ammo and let us shoot faster, and then massively increase the amount of enemies in the game, and let us just mow the fuckers down for once instead of using this stupid run & round with your pea shooter method. And with the swords? Why not some kickass dodging, thrusting, jumping, etc. action like in any good action/adventure game? Why must the gameplay be so plodding and boring?

Then, take those insanity effects, which are a good idea, and make it so they actually have some kind of point. As it stands, they're just a really dumb gimick. They have very little actual effect on the gameplay, and you can just restore your sanity anyway.

Instead, I want to see this used to make it so the player really does become unsure of exactly what IS an insanity effect. Make it so the less sane you become, the harder it is to tell what's really going on - none of this "doing a little scene and then flashing back to where you were" BS. And don't make it so the sanity can just be refilled with a simple spell. Make it so fighting to maintain your sanity is a vital part of the game.

That's all I have to say about that.

heh i agree tottaly, i think the game was designed so it trully felt like you were in the game, the nicely done sound...I think the sanity effects were an excellent bonus, but i agree, they should have been designed to actually make u less aware of what is going on.
And automatly more scarier, gameplay i agree could be enhances, but the scary aspect the game was made to be scary, why not make it more scairer, by going more indepth...more scences like
Spoiler:!!!: the bathtub scene...
I think i am going to purchase the game, i have just been playing it at my work, at an internet cafe, and my friend recommended it

Erika, you call yourself a nintendo whore?! -_- My ass you are.

Anyway, I picked up ED>
It's a damn good game! Tons of fun. The insanity effects are VERY Cool.

Especially when the bugs start crawling on the screen, I ACTUALLY thought there were bugs on my screen.

We should start a new topic:
Whats your favourite insanity effect in ED?

The baby crying in the backround gets me every time:uh?:

Yeah, I'm definitely getting it. It's one of those reasons I bought a GameCube.

Well my favorite insanity effect was blood dripping from the roofs....great.

But truely, I thought this game sucked pretty bad. I went to a friends house the other day, and played up 'til the mission after Pious...I forget her name. I got to the part where you have to guard the heart of the Corpse God, and soon died after that. But really, I think the fact that all Alex does to unreveal the mystery of her dead grandfather is read a book, and open doors with swords. Really, what the hell effect does she have in the game anyway?

If I ever got a Gamecube, I wouldn't even think of renting this game...

pssh, potash! heh, consider alex the story part of the game, in reality most of the gameplay and action is done by the chooson ones in the chapters...

Yeah, good point...yet still, I just can't take the fact that most of the chapters revolve around temples and Egypt-similar places...after I played The Mummy Returns for PS2, I never wanted to play another game with such an atmosphere...but I guess I went a tad over the limit...this game isn't that bad....if I ever did get it, I would play it, but finish it, I don't know.

Erm.... no.... I don't. It isn't even a Nintendo game anyway :P But no, I ain't no Nintendo whore, just a dork with a deep-seated love of Nintendo games :)

ED is so far below the level of quality of Nintendo games though. Just cuz they published it doesn't give it the right to be known as a "Nintendo game."
