So which do you like better? Getting around the World Map riding a Gold Chocobo or flying around in the Highwind? Personally, I like the chocobo better. You can get to places like Cosmo Canyon quicker, since you can get off the chocobo right there, where as with the Highwind you have to find grass to land on. Also, the chocobo has a cool theme to listen to.
Another cool thing is that you can screw around with the game with it. For example, activate Diamond Weapon heading towards Midgar, get on your Gold Chocobo, board the Highwind and fly it to someplace far off, like say, by Wutai. Then ride your gold chocobo back to Midgar, fight the Diamond Weapon and when you're done, you'll magically be back on the Highwind over by Wutai.

Of course, there are a few things the gold chocobo can't do, like ram into Midgar or land in the Northern Crater, but overall, I think it's the best way to get around.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">The Gold chocobo is better as transport, as it is easier to get to some areas, and even to the materia caves that you can't get to otherwise. Also, when on the chocobo, you don't have to put up with that irritating Highwind music (that gets on my nerves, especially when I was chasing Ultima Weapon all around the world for ages ;)).

However, the main problem is how long it takes to breed a Gold Chocobo. Yes, you can get one from beating Ruby Weapon, but you need KOTR to fight that battle easily, and to do that you'd need to get a gold chocobo first anyway.

But yeah, I prefer the Gold Chocobo to the Highwind, but getting the chocobo can be very boring...

Gold Chocobo by far, yeah the Highwind's the only way of getting to the Northern Cave.
But with the Gold Chocobo you can go almost anywhere on the world map, and then there's KOtR.

Yeah it may be quite costly and time consuming to get a Gold Chocobo, but its worth it to get KOtR.

Highwind. The chocobo's too slow. Yeah, you can get KOTR with it, but highwind is way faster. I don't like the submarine. Even slower than the chocobo.

Regarding the boredom of getting a Gold Chocobo, I agree that it can be quite boring at times. Here's are couple of tactics I've found to take some of the boredom at it:

- Get it at the very first chance you have in Disc 2. That way, it's out of the way. Plus, while you're waiting for your chocobos to "recover" so that they can breed again, you can go off and do stuff like the Ancient Forest (once you have a green chocobo), go fight in the Battle Arena, or even go off and do the huge materia quests while you're waiting.

- When racing the chocobo, set it to manual, speed the chocobo up, and then put it on automatic and go off and do something else for a bit. The chocobo should win its own, unless Chocobo Joe and his TEIOH chocobo are in the race, so watch for that.

I already got KOTR and all of the other hard to get materia, so I go for the speed of the Highwind. I like speed.

If I can only take one and only one, I would take the Gold Chocobo. Mostly because I can Travel around and look at stuff while hearing the Chocobo Theme going.

It's just those things where you just want to go around the world and think about how vast it is ya know?

A gold Chocobo can go anywhere over any terrain and oceans which mean u can get the Knight of the Round summon How to get a gold chocobo:
The Walkthrough:
Now, the first thing you want to do is equip the Chocobo Lure on one of your guys, then rent six stables at the Chocobo farm. Now the first Chocobo you want to get is a male walking Chocobo. You can find these around the Gold Saucer area near the water. You should always capture four Chocobo�s before going back to the Chocobo Farm. When you catch four, return to the farm. Talk to Choco Billy and tell him you want to move Chocobo�s. He will give you a rating of how good your Chocobo is. The only Chocobo�s that are good for anything are the Great and Wonderful Chocobo�s. So you should look through your four Chocobo�s and find one that says " This is a great Chocobo. If you don�t have any great Chocobo�s, or the only great Chocobo you have is female, then go get four more from the same spot where I told you to go before. Once you have found a male great Chocobo, you should race him until he is at the S Class. When he is in the S Class then go south near Mideel. Here you can catch a female running Chocobo. Once you have caught a running female great chocobo, then race her to the S Class. (You need to race all Chocobo�s to the S Class always) Now mate the two Chocobo�s with the Carob Nut. You can steal the Carob Nut from a red dragon in the green area by the Chocobo Sensei�s house. (You should steal about 3 Carob Nut�s. You will need them later on) You should get either a green or blue Chocobo. If you don�t, which should not happen if you did everything right, just reset the game and try again. It does not matter which is male or female anymore so whatever kind of blue or green Chocobo you get is good.

I don�t think you can breed your two yellow Chocobo�s again, so you need to repeat the process to get the same Chocobo�s. If you don�t know what I mean, you need to get a male walking great Chocobo and a female running great Chocobo and breed them. This time try to get the opposite of what you got before. For example if you got a male blue Chocobo the first time, then you should try to get female green Chocobo. Now that you have a green and blue Chocobo, race them to until they are S Class. Then breed them with the Carob Nut. You should get the black Chocobo. By the way if you are running out of room in the stalls, then you can release all of your yellow Chocobo�s.

If you got a female black Chocobo then you need to find a male dashing wonderful Chocobo. You can find these on the northern continent, in the West Side near the ocean. As always, catch four of them and go back to the farm. When you are picking out which Chocobo you want to move into the stables, Choco Billy should say "This is a wonderful chocobo." Now that you have your dashing chocobo, you need to race him/her and the black chocobo to the S Class. Now you need to go to the islands on the right side of the world map and steal the Zeio Nut. You can steal the Zeio Nut from some little goblins on of the islands. I think that they are in the forest. Now that you have the Zeio Nut, go back and breed the black Chocobo and the dashing Chocobo with the nut. Congratulations! You have the GOLD CHOCOBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got all the special materias like mime & stuff like that... it wasn't that all hard... i had someone to help me, but i did alot of the work. all he did was race them, like the really early ones. and stuff like that... well, he did help me on alot of other stuff but i like to use the highwind more, & alot!:uh?:

Ehm Agent what's the fun of using an editor?? It totally destroyes the fun of the game. it is more chalenging to make ur own gold chocobo plus u (can and mostly) get some neat items at the Chocobo Square in the Gold Saucer.

I'm just saying that it's an option if somebody wants to see what the gold chocobo is like without all of the breeding and racing and stuff, that's all.

I like the highwind, and spinning around fast for no apparant reason.

Ever since I saw my first chocobo I've been in love with them. Although I wish FF8 had had more to do with them, I mean, they were just used to promote the PocketStation, which I couldn't get anyway... I just really like chocobo's and the chocobo theme.

So yeah, I prefer the Gold Chocobo to the Highwind.

Chocobos no matter what the game!!!!! They kick the airship's asses every time!!!

I prefer the gold chocobo, because it can get you loads of different materia that the highwind cant, like knights of the round, quadra magic and hp<->mp.

Once I got all the materia, I liked the Highwind.

I like airships.

unless you need to go to places that must use gold chocobo to reach, highwind is better choice since its faster.

but the chocobos can go anywere and thehiwind can only land on smooth grassy areas. so the chocobo kicks ass!!!!!!!!

I mean, you can't land in forests with the Highwind and you can't get the legendary KOR without the Gold Chocobo if you want it.

I'm sticking with the Gold Chocobo.

I prefer flying the Highwind, because you can watch everything from the top, and it goes quicker, too. ;)

I prefer the highwind, because its faster and plays a cool song, but I guess I'd have to say Gold Chocobo, because you can go ANYWHERE. Even if chocobos arent as fast, you don't have to worry about landing on grass instead of snow or something.

I'd use both since the chocobo can ride the highwind but chocobos can go anywhere so highwind and chocobo is a good combination.

Chocobo is more versatile than Highwind, however Highwind is faster and you can restore all hp/mp without the use of an item

Still as has been already mentioned, just put the GC in the Highwind you get the best of both worlds then :-D

It has got 2 be riding a chocobo,there way faster respond easily and can go practically anywhere unlike the highwind which is restricted 2 some landing spots.And of course the song when riding the chocobo is great u gotta agree.
