This is a repost of my ill-posted questionaire thread . . . please give it some thought, now that it's in THE RIGHT PLACE. *facepalms*

_-_-_-_-_-_-_

I know the game's somewhat old by now, but I figured it'd be good to post this up:

A short little questionaire for you all who've played the game . . .

1) What race did you play as the most? (Or if you were one of those that made 3 characters on a solo file so that you could go after the Ultima Weapon, which character did you give the Ultima Weapon?) Why?

2) What was your favorite area in the game? Your favorite town? Why?

3) What was your least favorite area? Least favorite boss? Least favorite enemy situation? Why?

4) What part of the game's story (or backstory) did you like the most, or touched you the most? Why?

5) Was there any part that struck you as profoundly sad?

_-_-_-_

And now for me to answer.

1) I used the Selkie almost constantly on my original file -- this was mainly because I usually go for a ranged class (that can stand to land blows up close), and the Selkies were quicker, so I ended up going with them. The fact that I learned when I got to Leuda -- that any other race would get pickpocketed by talking to the locals -- was just icing on the cake.

2) I have to say my favorite area was Rebena Te Ra. My favorite town (of course) . . . was Leuda. (Betcha thought I was gonna say 'Rebena Te Ra', didn't you?)

3) Conall Curach. I DISLIKE THE END BOSS HEAVILY. I mean, it's a small arena, the enemies can ice you (in more than one sense of the word) if you don't take care of them, there's a SMALL OPENING of both TIME and SPACE for you to get at the boss, and on top of it all the boss has skills that POISON and PETRIFY you. Who is it? It's my LEAST FAVORITE BOSS, THE DRAGON ZOMBIE. However, my least favorite enemy situation is . . . Moschet Manor, stuck between two miraculously-attacking Tonberry Chefs. What's so miraculous? The fact that their attacks are timed PERFECTLY so that no matter what I do, one hits me right as I recover from the knockback from the other's attack -- cooking my goose before I lose so much as three hearts. The fact that it only happens through freak chance makes it even worse.

4) I'd have to say the entire backstory, of every area (most notably those of Rebena Te Ra, Veo Lu Sluice, and Conall Curach), and even of the last boss (and the brothers Hurdy and Gurdy, and the Black Knight along with the lot of them), was pretty interesting to me -- after all, the underlying storyline (that of Hurdy, Gurdy, the Black Knight, and the last boss) was pretty masterfully woven and above all HIDDEN so that you only got so much as you went along, and there was a fantastic reveal (albiet a little cryptic -- it's easy to miss who exactly were the two people who faced the last boss before you did if you aren't paying attention) . . . and as for the three areas I mentioned -- Rebena Te Ra was pretty awe-inspiring what with it being the ruins of a peaceful past (which were made even more intriguing by the place's being set as the main town in the subsequent prequel), Veo Lu Sluice was a pretty epic demonstration of the way all the races could actually get together (and an awesome illustration of how the world got to be the way it was -- and on top of that just what the Yukes are capable of), and as for Conall Curach . . . it's pretty much one of the most heartwrenching areas in the game if you pay attention to it.

5) I've already mentioned it twice -- Conall Curach. Just, the whole of Conall Curach. Let's go over it, shall we? First, we have the ancient Selkies run out of their homeland, forced to traverse the deadly swamp -- building their way to a bright tomorrow as their numbers are cut down. Second, we have the one Selkie writer who left the monoliths marking their progress -- they get steadily more depressing in their news even as he gets more and more excited and hopeful. Third, we have the final milestone telling you to press onward to see the new home of the Selkies just beyond -- only to go to the next area and get ambushed by the Dragon Zombie. Fourth, we have the Diary entry you first get -- your character hypothesizes that the Dragon Zombie was in fact a Dragon that wiped out the Selkie party in the past, crushing all their hopes with its might. And fifth, we have an optional quest: De Nam's letters, after he leaves Shella -- if you keep encouraging him, even as his letters get choppier and choppier, eventually he will stop writing and, randomly, a monster will drop DE NAM'S BANDANNA. What this implies only adds to the already sad area. Also, SIXTH, there's the background music, 'Aiming Towards The New World' --
HTML Code:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ4pK8gY6RE-- it combines with the dark, grim, miasma-choked swampland about to make a wholly depressing area, all of the above notwithstanding. So yeah, it's no surprise that this area seems so much of a sad point in general to me. (I can hardly hear the BGM without my heart choking up, it's that bad.)

So, now, I would love to see your answers to the questionaire . . .
