Hey, i just wondered if i was the only person who was confused by how...uh, feminine Kuja looked the first time it showed him. I guess leave it to japanese character design, anime is the only art that can consistently leave me wondering the gender of the characters...anywayz...............

Hey, it's Kuja. Kuja's so strange and different I bet even Kuja can't tell what gender Kuja is. Why should the developers limit him to being one gender?

It seems to me that using the word 'he' throughout the game when speaking of him, is in fact limiting him to the male gender(Quina? s/he is another story). Anyways, i don't care either way cause Kuja has a sweet character design and is one of my fave villans.

Well in my beliefs, which I havn't confirmed to be true, so consider this a rumor if you may...I heard that in the Japanese version, Kuja was supposed to be a girl. And they really didn't do much to change her appearance in the American version. Thus, he looks pretty feminine.

Hmm... you know that would make sense.

Kuja was also one of my favorite villins, I pretty much looked past his feminine appearence coz he was such a good charecter. I have my own theores but I don't think they really make sense so I won't post'em.

Uh, no. Because I always knew he was a guy because I like to read spoilers. *winks* Anyways, you gotta admit, if you take a real good look at him, he doesn't look so feminine. But first glance, wheee, he looks like a girl because he's wearing a thong (and a lot of other reasons too...)!

Well, I'm not sure, but Kuja is as feminine as they come. Holding his pinky like that (in one scene, you know) really proves that, along with other traits he shows. I really can't recall my first impressions about him, androgyn-like, he is. ..or is it a-sexual or whatnot?

Hehe, I have to say, Kooj had me totally confused when I first saw him. I knew he was a guy, but I was like, "He's pretty!" Not that guys can't be pretty, but I was thinking pretty in the feminine sense. Hehehe.

Anyway, yeah, I know, I don't have much else to contribute here. I thought he was a girl, too. But I like him. He's cool. Yeaaahhh!!

Well here's another explanation that should be considered.

Perhaps the reason way Kuja is so feminine is the same reason why Beatrix's hands are twice the size of her face or why Blank can see where he's going ever though he has some scarf thing over his eyes.

I thought Kuja was pretty the first time i saw him but my guy friend that it was a girl. I had to break it to him and tell him Kuja was a guy. Needless to say, he was pretty heartbroken about it. :D Still why did they change him into a guy character? It would have been pretty cool to remain a chick like in a Japanese version.

1. If Kuja was a woman he (or in this case, she) would be a rather masculine woman and everybody would come asking: "Didn�t you think Kuja looked like a guy?"

2. If Kuja would dress in a normal way people would not ask these questions. His way of dressing reflects his personality. It is his own way of dressing.

3. I only called him a girl because I wanted to make fun of him.

4. If it had turned out that he was a girl I would have been very very disappointed. :P

5. Kuja reminds of certains Japanese musicians (Visual Kei!) Very often you can hardly tell what gender the singers are under their make up and their clothes.

6. My very very first reaction was: "The new Sephiroth?!" In other words, male. And, the main villain.

Yeah, I thought at first Kuja was a girl in the cinema. I also though that when seeing pictures of Zidane before the game came out that he was a little girl.

For one thing Kuja ruled the game although he didn't appear until Burmecia. I believe that Kuja was the best animated character throughout the game. Now all of the characters were awesome...FFIX rules over them all! Kuja, in my opinion is not feminine he is just "perfect". Garland made him to destroy Gaia but he made him too "perect" that is why he was so strong willed. I do get controversy over that, b/c people ask me " Well how come Zidane wasn't more "perfect" than Kuja if he was meant o to do Kujas job better?" Well for one..Garland realized that If he created something better and more "perfect" than Kuja he would literally have hell on his hands. Back to Kuja...Kuja's video scenes were breath taking, the magic, the scenery, if his dialogue was enough to boggle my mind. For Example: He says, " Fly home to your mother my little canary." That is true words of a psychotic villian. Trance Kuja...I was amazed the way Vivi changes during trance, his hat becomes steepled. Zidane and the rest all they do is turn flourescent colors. Kuja's trance was reall and truly and transformation. I don't want to see this crap that say " He grew boobs!" It was where his armor had merged with his skin. The crimson feathers and hair and the blood red eyes and the copper colored lips...astounding perhaps the best movie sequence was when he destroyed Terra. If I had the money I would make a movie soley on FFIX to cover up that ridiculous movie they made that had nothing to do with games ( Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within ). Well I need to shut up about Kuja!

When my friend's brother's friend (who was at my friends house at the time) saw the kuja in bermecia scene, the first thing he said was, and i quote, "Wow! She's hot."

Its the way Kuja reflects himself.. when i saw him the first time i knew he was one bad ass tough opponent.. to me he juz gives u tat psychotic look disguised underneath a beautiful facade

I always thought he was male. I guess it's because I'm used to the main villains usually being male.

He was referred to as "Mystery Man" before you saw him in the FMV, so of course I understood he was male since the beginning. Dzuring that first FMV we were both confused, my sister and I, because he dressed in a really ... interesting way, and we jokingly called him a woman later on.
So did Brahne, by the way. I think she referred to Kuja's "girly face".

Well, Kuja's personality can explain his strange dressing style quite well. He wants you to frown... He wants to be special. :)

I did think Kuja was a girl. I was really confused,because there were something things that made me think he was a girl and some that made me think he was a guy. I finally realized he was a guy though,and was fully sure of it when they went to Terra.

I didn't think that it was a girl, but he looked kind of weird, but his silver dragon is bad ass.

I noticed that most off the recent characters in the games after FF 9 have had a femine type charactoristic. i guess kuja started some kinda of weird trend.

Yes, that thread already exists, I believe, in FFXII & Beyond forum. It's amazing just WHAT people get heated up about. Someone did say that 'all FFXII characters' look like girls... but just as it is with your comment that in recent games the characters look like girl, that's plain rubbish. Statements like that ignore half of the characters in recent games that do not look like girls and also ignore those in the older games that did look like girls. Ever seen the artworks to FFIIV-VI? The cutscenes in the remakes? Edge, Bartz, Locke, Kefka? :) Feminine?
And what about Auron, Steiner, Kiimahri, Balflear and Wakka, to name only a few? Feminine?!

Look, everyone get this straight:
- Kuja was originally meant to be female in the Japanese version.
- They obviously decided against after designing most of the character, or had already made the FMVs so they could not change them and have him as a girly looking man.
