Most of the tracks are looped so that extends the timeframe.

But if the score is an hour long then why wouldn't the soundtrack cd be complete? Some game soundtracks have 75 minutes of music per cd so its totally feasable for this one to contain 60 minutes of soundtrack.

That's right, some of these tracks will never be in the OST. I don't notice same things being used in two different tracks or more. Other than samples and short parts or as a tunes/themes. So, your rip is more "complete" than OST will ever be, I think. Anyway, we'll see...

The official soundtrack has like 65+mins of music on it, so the majority of music in this rip will be on the soundtrack most likely. You might find some bits and pieces missing from the OST, but nothing major. What this rip is missing is the cinematic music, like the opening cinematic.

Thank You for the wonderful rip.
I read in an interview that the complete score for the game runs about 60 to 70 minutes, since the cd will be long between 60-70 minutes, i think that the cd will have the full score.
Steve Jablonsky: There are over 60 minutes of score for Gears 2. I'm not sure what the exat number is, but is between 60 and 70.
and
Mike Larson (Audio Director): The cd consists of 27 tracks and more than 60 minutes of material.

Yes but the story has a lot of holes in it.
How do you explain the appearance of the locust queen for instance?
And what happenes to Maria?
Why do the locust speak english?
And what about the fact that Carmine dies in Gears 1 and then suddenly reappears as the rookie in gears 2
etc

The rook is carmines other brother, benjamine carmine. As for the other stuff i think that it will be more explained in the third game more about the locust queen and the locust's themselves.
Also i have a theory that the queen could have a connection to adam fenix and the sires compound and that weird guy on the screen talking about all the security stuff.

I hate all the plot holes they created this time. Gears 3 is probably at least 2 years away.
Well I hope they come up with something decent in Gears 3.
Not that the locust queen is Marcus his mutated mother or something like that :)

The main thing I had wrong is that most of the characters were not fleshed out. Dizzy was just a redneck, Tai was just a poor man's samurai from the future. Baird was just sarcastic as ever, and Cole was just...well, a stereotypical black man on crack.
Of the main cast, only Marcus and Dominic are fleshed out, the former only in the sense of personality, and Dominic slightly in his relationship with his wife.
But you know what? The site actually has some background story for Tai and Dizzy...but it is never said in the game! If I didn't go to the site, I never would of had known that Tai was part of a family that had seen war as a philosophy, and that Dizzy was actually a Stranded who sacrificed his freedom in order to protect his family.
Is it really so much to ask, EPIC? Just a few minutes more of storylines and cutscenes? I know you didn't want to become another Metal Gear Solid 4, but come on!

I never pay much attention to plot holes especially because i never played the first game. Still, the epic battles especially while you are on the brumac are fantastic and I loved it. I mean its no jrpg but a fantastic western developed third person shooter. The story kept me interested enough and thats more than I can say for most games.

Yes, I can say without a doubt that GoW2 is certainly a whole lot more epic in tone and atmosphere than the first game. Before, it was just your squad. It had more of a tone of a resistance, rather than a full blown out war. But in GoW 2, you KNOW that you are just one small squad that is a part of a massive armed force.

Great rip. Really good. And I appreciate your work OrangeC. But - just as I suspected - I don't appreciate Jablonsky's score. I probably would like it 3 years ago, but not today. Stupid synth action score, with horrible choirs that makes this score... more bad ass... for some. I really hate those choirs;). Ok, it's easy to listen, but for me, uneasy to like. I just think than MV (RC) style is not my cup of tea anymore. It was cool in mid 90', but not now. For me there is only one good Jablonsky's score - Steamboy. And I'm affraid that it won't change fast.

I actually agree with herbaciak. And it's too bad he didn't use his theme more often. It's actually quite a nice theme but I only heard it one or two times other than the theme song itself. It could've been used beautifully in Dom and Maria's song.
Plus I'm very disappointed that the first Gears' theme wasn't used at all. The Locust theme was in there a bit, but even that was underwhelming. Music is used to tie a series together. Jablonsky didn't do this at all. Too bad.
It's unfortunate that games aren't using variations on their themes anymore.

The scenes that i thought impacted the story are when tai killed himself and when dom killed maria especially when the camera turned and she looked like dead zombie of some sort. Great job epic.

It's all about taste I guess. After listening a few times to the OST I like about 6 tracks of the whole score. Mainly the ones where the GOW themes are used.
I don't mind choirs in general. In fact I listen most of the time to trailer music like Immediate Music and Two Steps From Hell and they use always a lot of massive choir.
However, having played the game I really think the choirs are inappropiate for this kind of universe. Also in the beginning where you drive with those big vehicles in the mountains there is that heroic choir in that scene. Totally inappropiate since the world is in chaos and they didn't do anything yet to solve it...
I also was a bit disappointed that some of Riepls magnificicent themes are left out and that the best parts of the other themes (like the locust theme) are ommitted...
On the other hand I do think the synths make it more epic and full sounding then pure orchestra though...
Best new theme is the song in the last level where you ride the brumak

I absolutely agree. Riepl score was raw. Orchestral, but raw. Why raw? Because world of GOW is raw, full of violence and killing without thinking... Yeah, choirs makes it epic. But it's not epic story. Maybe it's full of epic images, but it's not epic story, it's story about a guy, who want's to kill some aliens. Not about a city, country, world... it's about a guy who wants to kill invaders! And even as an epic score it fails. Because it is the most shitty kind of epic. Bring me some epic (means choir and synthetic orchestra)!
It's all about taste I guess.

I like Riepl's score more, but this is also quite good. The new main theme complements the story of the game well, and the music (in context) is more effective than the first. However, there is a bit too much emphasis on synthetic instrumentation than I'd like, but it certainly adds to that raw element that was mentioned a few posts ago. When it comes to a standalone listen, Riepl's score triumphs mainly due to it being more melodic. Jablonsky's score, on the other hand, takes some getting used to. The game's story is more emotional and this score certainly achieves that goal. It's like comparing apples to oranges really. I like both, but I think I'd like to see Riepl return for the third game, or maybe both him and Jablonsky could collaborate? That would be interesting.

Nice job on the rip, OrangeC - thanks! Love the score; I definitely prefer the musical style on display here over the first one. Jablonsky really brings Riepl's Gears Main Theme to the forefront, and adds some sweeping, epic flourishes to it. My favorite variations are Rolling Thunder, Heroic Assault, and the Gears of War 2 Main Theme.
Hope you don't mind, but I did up an eight minute edit which consists of your recording of the Gears 2 Main Theme and Heroic Assault. Both tracks were just begging for a suite style arrangement. :)
EDIT: I've since uploaded a new version of the suite, using the CD release's versions of "Hope Runs Deep" and "Armored Prayer." Enjoy!

Alright, here is the mp3 version, since people prolly will bitch about the ogg...

http://rapidshare.com/files/162314348/VA-Gears_Of_War_2__Gamerip_-2008-WEB.part2.rar
Size went down from 362MB to 267MB, but mine are nicely tagged. So download whichever one you want.
Ouch. That's a MASSIVE quality drop, you know...converting from a lossy format to a lossy. Ogg's only a little less lossy than MP3. You--you killed it. :O :P
And thank you, OrangeC. A lot. This must've been a ton of work--it's much appreciated. :)

There are two tracks used in the game during the Credits. What are those tracks if they are in the OST? I'm pretty sure that they are not in the OST.
This makes this "rip" more complete than the OST, just like I thought.

O.o
I notice no difference in quality between MP3 and OGG.
They all sound the effin' same!

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster.
So, been looking since the first GoW for sound effects. Any and all. Specifically, the double-chirp/info que, would love that as a ringtone.
If any of you know how/where to acquire these, please, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your time.

Well, I think that if you listen the credits in the game, you won't find those tracks in the OST... So at least those.

Yeah, I was wrong. The first is Green As Gras and the second is Finally, A Lead. My bad.

Ah, man. I don't mean to pester, honest, but do you think you'd consider reuploading your original OGA rip of the first Gears of War? I know people weren't very grateful when you did so the first time. I'm sorry about that. It sucks royally when your contributions aren't appreciated. :( But I was wondering if you'd at least mull over the request.
Thanks for the consideration. :)
