I'm considering buying a Xbox 360, but still trying to decide between either that or a PS3. The 360 failure rate is kind of disturbing though, so i'm concerned about the warranty...

Does anyone know how exactly the Xbox 360 warranty works? I've read some places it is a 3 year warranty and other places only a 1 year warranty. If I ended up buying an Xbox360 on ebay, would the warranty still apply? Even if it's used or was manufactured in say 2006?

It's a 2 year warranty from the purchase date I think.

I'm on my 5th 360. But live is worth it!

First of all, the failure rate on new 360s (I wouldn't trust the eBay ones you mentioned) has been drastically reduced. The exact numbers still aren't known, but it is certain that the failure rate is in single digit territory somewhere. It may even be on par with the other two consoles now.

That aside, the 360 has a one year warranty, but that's been extended to three for RRoD issues.

Was it three? I've got two in my head for some reason.
I remember reading about it on the xbox forums, but I'm not sure??

The extended warranty only covers RROD. If your Xbox dies of any other complication, you've only the one year to use.

So, yeah.

I know the failure rate has dropped, but I think it still comes down to the games more than anything. If you like FPS's get a 360, if you like action games and games that arent RPG's, get a PS3. I personally dont like either one, the Wii and DS have better games.

anyway, back to the warranty, just call microsoft and ask, or go to there official site, that way you find concrete info.

Did you just say that... the Wii has better games??

How many party games, cooking games, exercise games and such do you like to play?

Sure, there are always the Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Zack and Wiki, and some others, but to say there are better games overall on the Wii than on the other 2 systems?

I sure doubt that. At least as far as my taste in games goes. I don't play FPSs and my 360 is still getting a lot more love than my 2 other systems.

Also Prak, I finally went and finished Mass Effect (a little late, I know), so whenever you're up for it, let's discuss about it on MSN.

There's a rumor going around sometime around August next year they'll have new chips that will cost less and run better (like the Falcon but even better), so personally I'd hold out for that.
