So I just went out of my way to learn this to see what it looks like and does, and I guess it's no wonder they killed her off so quickly. All the secret bosses would be a joke if you could still have her on the second and third disc.

Also, just for a test run, I was gonna see how far one would be on average in Disc One by the time you learn it, assuming you use Aeris in every battle when she's available, and NOT go out of the way to level up. Staying on the story's path, and so on. I WAS keeping tally count of how many foes Aeris beat and how many times she used the Limits she had to use.

It turns out that even if you do take advantage of Fury (which I did) and follow the above rules about staying on the story's path, you'd be just before or already in the Temple of the Ancients. I've done this on two different playthroughs (last time was a year ago) and ended up being in the TotA both times. So that's official proof that going out of your way is a must to learn it for whatever time you have left.

I guess it makes sense considering how cheap it is that it's buried. I wouldn't doubt this has been tested before, but just thought I'd share those results. Also I find the way to go about getting the item is almost as absurd as FFXII's Zodiac Spear.

At least you have a (albeit small) chance of working it out without a guide. You'd have to be lucky enough to find and talk to that old man when the two final digits of your battle count match, but if you remember that the Weapon Seller needed materials you'd know where the Mythril goes. Then it's a 50:50 chance whether you'll pick the right box. Slightly less obscure than the 'don't open any of these four random chests' method for the Zodiac Spear.

I don't think they killed her off quickly 'cause of the awesome Level 4 Limit break.

That'd be a really retarded idea. And an even more retarded theory.

They kill her off because Sakaguchi wanted to experiment on how far he could make gamers become attached to a character. Sakaguchi stated the fact in an interview after the game was released in Japan and before it hit American shores. I've got the video in my giant collection of FF goodies...I'll see if I can dig it out when I get some more free time and upload it.

I actually meant, they gave her the awesome level four limit break because they killed her off so quickly, that makes more sense than the other way around.

I think they just tried to make the game easy to appeal to the mass market.

They might have even added some of the strange side quest items for the sake of making the official guide bigger.

You can go to the sleeping man and weapon seller over and over again. Meaning you can get more then 1 great gospel. Also you can open up two chest. I think you can't get two great gospels with aeris but I know I've done something like it before. Maybe later on.

I'm leveling my characters to level 99 right now on the first disk. I'm at the part where you gotta talk to the weapon seller about the key stone. If you go further then you'll find your stuck with aeris and cloud in the party at all times. Everyone is level 76ish. I got level 4 limit breaks for Red XIII, Cloud, Aeris, Yuffie, and all of Cait sith (two). everyone else has their limits to level 3.

I'm leveling up at a green patch near mideel. You can get there with the tiny bronco.

What a load of shit. As if Aeris was the first fictional character people would cry for. Yes, let us forget the countless tear-bringing on-screen (or off-screen for those who read those things called books) deaths in favor of a fucking flower seller with a personality as deep as cardboard.

SPOILER FROM ANOTHER FF

But Cid doesn't have to die if you don't want him to. Never mind that, though-- how about Galuf from FFV?

Fair point. Sorry. In fact, this entire thread should really be spoiled tagged. I'll do that now...

Oh, P.S., as far as the VI spoiler goes, that's a relatively minor character. It's not really going to ruin too much to know that going in.

Hey, I'm not the one you have to forgive as far as VI goes, anyway. I wasn't the one who posted that. :D

I don't see the point in going out of your way just to get GG unless you're using a gameshark to keep Aeris, but then again she seems to level her limits up the slowest out of anyone else...

Finding the Zodiac Spear in FFXII isn't absurd at all. All you have to do is avoid opening 4 chests.
I never really used Aeris much, just because I knew what was going to happen and I never had much use for such a weak character either. I only used her for healing. (obviously...)

Agent0042

Yes, but I think what Zak finds absurd about that particular weapon is the fact that you have to avoid opening those particular chests, and there's absolutely nothing in the game that would lead to believe that there would be any reason not to open them. So it's sorta like a ridiculous gotcha.

Cloudemyx

True.
I just so happened to know the secret to the spear after 90 hors of gamplay from some guys on another forum... It really is absurd.

Yeah, I personally got lucky-- the first time I played through the game, I managed to obtain it, even though I had no idea of the secret to getting it. I mean, I was vaguely aware of its existence from having seen certain references to it, but I had never actually read that there were certain treasure chests you had to avoid or else you wouldn't get it. I didn't even know where to find it if you did avoid those treasure chests. I just happened to stumble onto it.

I managed to obtain it[zodiac spear], even though I had no idea of the secret to getting it.

That's silly! Unless you don't open every chest within arms length of the storyline, the 4 chests are..2 from when you get out of the dalmascan prison or somewhere around there when you get your weapons back..those are the two that are "not leading to believe there's no reason to open" whilst the 4X4 chest formations on Phon Coast and in the Necrohol of Nabudis hint just a bit as to some semblance of importance or secret item-ness.

Agent0042

I guess I just lucked out by not noticing and/or opening those first two treasure chests and then not searching thoroughly enough to come across the ones in the Phon Coast.
