So I've been playing FFVI (FFAnthology for ps1) for almost 2-3 weeks now, off and on, and this guy Shadow keeps joining up with me and then bouncing on me after a few battles. Is he ever going to permanently join the group or what? lol Cause I could really use him.

He'll probably bounce in and out once or twice more before he joins you permanently. Without spoiling anything, you'll have a chance to just save your own ass or save his too--be sure to save his too.

Cool! And thanks for the advice man. He had all the powerful attacks when I had him.

He's overall a pretty decent character, because his Throw attacks can do lots of damage and he has good Speed. In the latter parts of the game, he gets kind of overshadowed (no pun intended) by characters like Sabin, Terra, and Celes because their Magic/special attacks are so good. FFVI is all about Magic.

I hear ya. I just got the first four Espers last night. Now I have to learn how to use them.

On the whole, Espers in VI are pretty unexciting when it comes to summoning. I'd say focus on the whole on making sure that everybody learns their magic. Once a character has learned all or most of the esper's spells, move it on to another character if they still need to learn that magic.

P.S., without spoiling too much-- if you get to a point where you're alone with Sabin and then you join up with Shadow, save your game as often as possible while wandering about the world map. If he runs off on you, reload your game and try again, because IIRC, he can only leave you at this point while you're on the world map. (That is, up until the storyline-dictated point where he eventually decides to scoot again, if he stuck around up to that point.)

Thanks a bunch, Agent0042. I'll have to keep in mind to switch around the Espers after everyone masters them, so I can try out different spell types with everyone (right?). Should keep things interesting.

If/when you decide to level grind, pay attention to the level-up bonuses your Espers give. They won't make or break you, but they'll definitely help you boost key stats, like Magic for Sabin and your nukes, or HP for any tanks you decide to use, or Speed for pretty much everybody.

Speed is a pretty cool one to boost, it's the main reason to keep Odin around instead of converting him to Raiden.

Sure he will. just gotta... wait. for quite a while.
there's just a really tough twist in the middle of the game. if you make a wrong move, you'll never get shadow coz' he'll die. as in DIE GO BYE BYE. If you wanna know, just tell me.. you might kill me if i spoil it for you.

That's not what I was referring to, what I was referring to was:
