With all due respect to the mods and admins here including sarah, i think this forum needs a bit more moderation and a bit more restrictions, especially in the anime and videogame msuic sections where leechers reign rampant, well i guess the leechers reign rampant in other forums too, but the main popularity on here i guess is the anime/videogame msuic section and thats not in a good state, everything is messy in there and its just crap.
What is peoples take on this?

OrangeC,
As another shriner, I'm sympathetic to suggestions for the forums. But I'm not sure what you're saying, and maybe others aren't either.
Leechers are very prevalent in the VGM/Anime forums. There's no doubt about that. But what moderation or restrictions are you suggesting?
And what do leechers have to do with the VGM/Anime forum being "messy" and "just crap"? Could you be more specific about what you mean? Do you mean the overall organization of the forum isn't clear? Or do you mean there are a lot of spammers? Or something else? What do you mean by "messy"?
I think with some more information we can get the discussion going with a more sound understanding of your complaint.
You shouldn't worry, everyone has their reason. I think everyone here are nice people.

Im talking about the zero posters who don't contribute worth of shit and spam up the forum with requests and bump the quality threads down.
As for restrictions, im talking about adding hide tags which can only be accessed when someone has a required post count. or acess to the downloads sectionj with a required post count. kinda like what Gamingforce does but with no nazi mods.
Get it?

Got it.
As far as I'm concerned, this place revolves around the generosity of you and the others who continually upload new music. The selflessness of the uploaders is what makes this place great. And if those suggestions would help protect your threads from falling to the wayside, I'm all for it.
The question, though, is whether a post requirement would help. Even if it was as high as, say, 100 posts, there would be the temptation for new posters to spam 100 times, grab what they could, and log out of the website before they were banned. In that scenario, the problem would be much worse.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or other suggestions?

I'm all for suggestions on how to improve the state of things. I'm going to be adding new mods. if you have suggestions on specific policies for them to enforce I'm all ears.
there are a number of problems with this specific suggestion though 1) it'll just promote spamming to get the required postcount and 2) fewer people viewing download links -> faster the links die. it's unfortunate but that's sort of the way it is.
one thing I've considered doing is adding reputation, but just for the download links, and perhaps having a forum where only users with high reputation can post. it still wouldn't be ideal for download links, because of the aforementioned issue, but for things like ftps and whatnot it should work out well

Sarah,
Can you explain what reputation is and how it's different from post count?

the idea is that if someone likes a post you made, because they found it useful/informative or they want to thank you for uploading something or ripping something, they can give you an e-prop ~
each prop you get would up your reputation by 1. in theory you could also have negative rep possible, for annoying things.
some systems modify the amount of rep given based on who gives it. ie, someone with 100 rep who gives you a prop may give you 10 rep, versus someone with 0 rep who props you giving you 1.

If your going to do that Sarah, I suggest you don't get one where you can negitive rep members.
Just makes it a happier system.

I think it's a great idea~
only discrepancy would be noob people neg-repping truly awesome members
ie, prak
'cus a lot of noobs tend to dislike him u_u
but i'm sure you could work out a truly wonderful system! <3

May I make a little suggestion about the leechers? I've seen in other boards a function that works like this:
http://downloadlink.com/?euiiw
And the user sees this message:
Link hidden. In order to see it you must reply to this thread
Probably it just increases spam, sorry for the useless tip.

How would a reputation system affect those of us who are somewhere in the middle? I'm the kind of person who contributes when I can -- I don't have a massive collection by any means -- but I don't download an inordinate amount of stuff. When I see a request I can fill, I do. If I see something I really want, I'll grab. But mostly I lurk.
Would a reputation system adversely affect those of us who mostly fly in silent running?
