constantly getting drawn into a battle when playing a FF game. Like when thers something you want to do or go and you always get sucked into a battle. A few fights are good but it good but it gets annoying at times whats really boring is when you have to gain levels for a boss you can't beat. As in Zelda you walk up to an enemy swing your sword and he's dead. What do you think people?

the better the battle system, the less the hassle. With some of the FF games random battles get on my nerves, but some I actually enjoy them. I like FFX's battle system, and I actually go out of my way to fight random battles sometimes, not just because it'll give me AP but because they're actually fun.

I enjoyed the random battles in FFV and FFVIII. Other than that, I agree with you. If I ever get my "dream job" of designing and programming RPGs, what I'm going to do is make a game where all the fighting takes place in what in FF games would be considered boss fights. These fights will be more frequent than bosses are in the FF games but much less frequent than FF random encounters, will always tie into the storyline (unlike the random encounters in FF. Ever find yourself wondering "WHY am I fighting this stupid imp?"), and will be worth huge amounts of experience (or whatever you gain from fighting in the gameplay system this game will use). I would rather fight a few, challenging, fun battles than many, boring pointless battles.

I didn't got upset or anything in FF7 cuz iI loved the battle system. In FF8 the battle system sucked and I got upset more then once over the stupid fights.

I love fighting in RPGs. In fact, thats the reason I play. The main gameplay goes into battling and if you dont want to do it, you sure like to waste 50 hours of something you dont even like doing just to hear the story. Sounds pretty lame to me.

Hmm, I luv Random battles! They help your charactors lv up and learn new skills! Plus I luv to kik butt! But, as for Trance, you don't seem to remember Zidanes Grand Leathal! Now THAT is an attack!!!:D

The good thing about random battle is that you can level up. It's rather annoying in ff8, though, because the battles are so long. I enjoy random battle in most of the other FF's, though. You can kill most of the enemies rather quickly.^_^ FFVII had the best battle system.

Random battles are sometimes fun. Usually they aren't, because of the difficulty level. Too easy battles, thus very boring. Many people, myself included, think that FFX's battle system is nice and it really is. I don't know, but I, for one, find FFX's random battles to be more challenging than, for example, FFVIII's random battles. In FFVIII they were dead boring, since they didn't offer, virtually, any challenge (Malboro excluded). But in general, random battles are fun. I don't think that battles, which you could avoid would work at all. That just wouldn't be Final Fantasy-like or something. I'm too keen to random battles to even consider alternatives *grins*

You know, what really gets me is that there's no option to skip FMVs or demos. When you're completing a specific FF like for the fourteenth time you probably wouldn't want to watch all that storyline and dialog stuff, right? I wouldn't.. and that really gets me.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">It depends. There are times I don't mind fighting, while other times I don't want to fight much at all. Random battles can get boring at times, but tehre are also times when I don't care about them, and even want them to come more often than they already do. Not necessarily to level up or learn abilities etc, just for the hell of fighting battles. Going for long periods without any random battles can be boring. So I don't really mind the battles, they are a main part of the FF games. :)

Well how I remember it, I really got sick of the random battels in FF7. Not because I didn't like the battle system or anything like that, but because since it was my first FF game, i really was impatient and wanted to go on with the story as quickly as possible. That just caused me to do alot of leveling up before boss fights though. I really liked FF10 battle system but the battles got anoying on Mt. Gagazet. I liked them other wise. FF9 takes the cake though, I never once got irritated with the random battles. I just REALLY enjoyed that game! Battles and all!

Yeah, it can be annoying. I liked being able to junction no encounters in FFVIII, and the encounter lowering materia in FFVII. It's still pretty useful for levelling up, though. ^_^

It's okay in some ways, but I do agree that when I need to go somewhere fast I don't want any wild monsters attacking me. That's also bad when you're heading towards a boss or something. If some little monster comes and battles you, your health goes down.

If I'm in a hurry to do something and I'm trying to get it done, I usually get annoyed when I get into a random battle. But if you think about it, like with some of the games, it can come in very useful when leveling up your characters. It's not all that bad.

I spent a lot of time with the games just going around looking for random battles, for the purpose of leveling. If it got to the point where a battle was getting to easy for my characters, I would go in search of a stronger battle.

Random battles are necessary in my opinion. Helps you to learn the game better, learn the controls, and builds up your charcters.

I usually get annoyed if i'm trying to go somewhere or i'm revisiting a early stage in the game. Maybe square should use the breath of fire method(get the choice to enter a battle area at random places on the map and run around a patch of land enjoying random battles, until you want to stop)

Random battles annoy me at times, except for Tactics. I think the series should shift to a style like the Chrono series.
