FF 3: Rate the available job classes from top to bottom

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is only in my opinion and experience while playing the game.
It is not based on an strategy guide or walthrough.

1)white mage/devout - simply put, it is obligatory to have someone to cure your party. Potions do not cut it. Period.

2)ninja - clearly with their ninja stars and high speed they are the best class available. Cant equip the best armor but with the boomerangs you can put him in the back row

3)knight -once you get this job class you can stick with it to the end. Defend is a huge plus and got me out of plenty jams.

4)dragoon - jump also will get you out of plenty of jams. NOt to mention he too can equip the strongest armor. Hes great against dragons which are usually pretty hard to beat. And there arent many weapons that are strong against flying beasts, so its a good thing to have him around ..especially for fighting Bahamut

5)Dark Knight - He is pretty much the same as the knight. However he is a real pain to have around until after you get the last airship, because he cant equip any good armor until getting the demon armor.
But once you equip him his skills really come in handy for finishing off oponents quickly

6)Viking - all around heavy duty. Plenty of axes running around in the game. Can equip the best armor. Have him under the rest because his skill is pretty much worthless, unlike the dragoon and dark knight

7) monk/master - yes, i know he hits really hard. But his defense is suspect. I prefer a striker that can take a hit as well as giving it.

8)Geomancer - this class just rocks. Easy to use. Easy to equip. And his ability packs a punch for both big partys and bosses

9)Thief - has some very good weapons throughout the game, and in the woods the steal come very handy for getting elemental items.
With boomerang you can put him in the back to help with his low d.

10)Ranger - His elemental arrows do come in handy since hes prepared to battle monsters with or without elemental weaknesses.
Obviously hes in the back row so this makes for some good defense. His skill is useless and buying arrows can be a pain.

11) Summoner - black magic is overall very very week in this game. However the summoner gets plenty of shots in with each of his summons. OK for both regular monsters and bosses

12) Sorcerer -handy because he can do both black and white magic. HOwever id just advise to stick with the devout, since once again, black magic pretty much sucks, and you should not sacrifice a revive for a meteor.

13) scholar - the scholar is tricky, however with a good thief to hook him up with elemental items, Hes a realy badass for most boss battles. Pretty much keep him stocked and in the back row. Another plus is he can learn cura and lend a hand with the healing. He can pretty much do anything a black mage does, much much better.

14) black mage - in case you didnt read the last three previouse to this, black magic sucks. Even with the strongest meteor or flare..the damage doesnt come close to what a good striker can do.

15) red mage/warrior - both very very good for the first round of the game, but quickly become useless after getting your second set of job classes.

16) bard - pretty worthless. cant think of a single good use for him

What are your opinions?

I guess this all comes down to personal opinion and I value your thoughts.

I only bought the DS version yesterday so I will let you know about which jobs I prefer to roll.

Be prepared for a lot of level grinding. It's not so bad early on, but once you get to the Surface World it'll become annoying fast.

Anyway, on the job classes, I normally use a Black Mage, White Mage and two Warriors for the first part, then a White Mage, Knight, Geomancer and Ranger (after the Fire Crystal). After the Water Crystal, I use a Dragoon, Knight, White Mage and Geomancer, then my final combination is usually two Ninjas, a Devout and a Summoner. Sorry for being so boring, but that's my answer to the thread question (I like to keep my posts relevant, to some degree).

I don't mind level grinding as I play a lot of MMORPGs so Im kinda used to it.

Whilst I've only played maybe half an hour, I already seem to be stuck. I have left the village of Ur and apparantly am supposed to head South....but when I do, Luneth sees a "ghost" and runs away....what do I do?

go back to ur....theres a small cutscene that must happen.

you have to go to the right corner of the town where some kids are picking on your friend. He will feel the need to prove himself and run off to that town full of ghosts.... thats when you have to go down there looking for him.

I've had the game since Christmas.

I ought to start it really.

I'm too lazy to go into the temple of Chaos right now though, considering all of the revision I'm doingg.
