I'm looking for video game music thats kind of old sounding. Along the lines of Kumi Taneoka's FFCC OSTs, or kind of period-driven like Professor Layton.

Any ideas?? ^ ^;;

The only one that I can think of is the soundtrack to Saga Frontier 2, though that can sometimes be a fusion of "medevil-y" and "techno". You could also try the earlier Shining Force soundtracks, the Ogre Battle soundtracks, and maybe the GrimGrimoire soundtrack, though I'm not quite as sure about the last one.

Those are the only ones I could think of off the top of my head.

I think the Hobbit OST fits what you're looking for. Flutes and lutes. Medieval-y. And it's a great soundtrack. Check out "Lianna's Theme," "Travelling to Rivendell," "Crossing the Bridge," and especially "Working in the Mill." I think it'll surprise you with how good it is.

This thread never got very far. Well, how about something a bit older? "Outside the Castle" by Dave Wise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5oBiP-1cik) (Wizards and Warriors, 1987) is pretty wonderful, if short.

Edit: Iron Lord for the C64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ovo9BsBSFM) by Jeroen Tel (1990) is a bizarre mix of medieval melodies and more standard hard-hitting chiptune sounds.
