Like with the Brawl soundtrack, I obsessed a little bit too much over the little details. Enjoy! (

But thanks you for your great job!

EXCELLENT RIP.

Ok, is it just me? Or did someone get lazy on the Star Power Song? I ask because when I went to IGN, saw the video of Koopa Zooming in first place, and herd the Star Power theme, it's different. The one that's in this track is the GCN Mario Kart DD One. Other then that I guess I'll have to search for that one now just to complete the sound track.
But for the rest of the songs in the OST, Awesome.

Glad everybody seems to be enjoying the rip. Sorry for the link issues, I'll try to figure out the problem right away. Thank you for letting me know. And on the star music issue, no it wasn't laziness. Star Power and Mega Mushroom Power are sequenced in a way that nobody knows how to rip yet, so the only way I can get it without sound effects right now is through other Mario games. Like with everything I do, I won't stop updating if things can be improved, so tweaks and fixes will be made. But I put a lot of work in this, so the quality is already pretty equivalent to an OST. "Higher quality" weridguy? This is directly from the disc, at an very high variable bitrate that is recommended by audio professionals based upon numerous blind test listening studies. if you're one of the very few who can actually tell the difference between this and the source, you wouldn't really want a lossy format like mp3. Lossless would be the answer, which I intend to distribute for the albums eventually. Alright, now on to sorting out the link issues!

All of the links should be fixed now. If anybody finds any other problems, be sure to tell me.
And does anybody happen to be a php expert? I would like to add the left-click download functionality to some zip links (a lot of people don't know how to right-click save oddly enough), but it's very difficult to get it to work on Firefox to where it won't download automatically.

That's the Starman music ripped from Mario Kart DS. Special D64, could you post the link to the IGN video or any video that features the star music so I can confirm which one is more accurate?

Awesome! Just a shame that the SNES Battle Course 4 is so short and the fade out thing sorta ruins it, I like the loop thing they had going.
That's probably not the only one, but it's the only one I've listened too; I'm Torrenting the rest.
It's totally better than nothing though so thanks a lot!

I fixed the no fadeout problem that the Dry Dry Ruins songs had.
I cut out the silence at the end of Credits Pt. 1
I replaced the Mario Kart Double Dash Star Power music with the more faithful Mario Kart DS version, slightly edited to bring it as close as possible to the Wii version. It may be awhile before anybody manages to extract the actual Wii Star Power music without any SFX, since there isn't any way yet to extract it directly. You'd have to do a clean recording.
For the updates listed above, you may have to hit refresh whenever selecting the play option.
As far as some of the tracks feeling too short because there aren't too full loops: many songs feel too long with two loops. I'm all about giving people options though, so I intend to upload two loop versions of all the songs at some point. It's not exactly a straightforward process, since I do custom fades similar to what you'd hear on a professional soundtrack.

My faith in myself ripping stuff now lowered a lot again... why should I bother ripping music if 5 other people post other rips of the same game a few days afterwards? =/
Maybe I should stick with the underdogs... <_<

....oh shit. I didn't know there was another thread; I would have downloaded them from yours...but oh well, there's 135 here so I suppose this one is more complete (unless I'm missing something?).
It was Hell manually downloading each song individually, especially since the server was terrible (it cut off downloads randomly at times).

I feel the same as you, I'm done with making my own versions of things. I have one unique rip for Super Monkey Ball 2, and I'm glad I put that up. Sometimes the rest of it just seems like a waste.

True, I did something similar with Mario Kart Wii as well, but that thread got lost as no one seemed particularly interested in my version of that one. Oh well, at least some people enjoy what I've put out there. =)

To Skunk and Cyantre: posting this wasn't meant to be a downer for anybody. :( I know how much time you must've put into your rips and I'm sure they are good quality, I just obsessed and spent even more time while you were able to enjoy a bit of free time. I haven't had any free time whatsoever lately, I'm too much of a workaholic.

Thanks 30treei8 for the upload. I'm fine with people distributing any songs I post to the site, as long as they remain the same. I would've posted the zip packs to the website itself (and I will eventually), but it's sometimes difficult to juggle everything.
Rstu, don't be sorry, thanks for pointing out the mistake! Unfortunately I'm leaving town for a week, so I won't be able to fix that track until then. I'm also looking forward to posting all of the other Mario Kart turbo videos.
Glad everybody's enjoying the album! Just a few more days until Mario Kart Wii's US release!

dont get me wrong, ive very thankful for your upload/sharing. its just listen to all/most my music on either my computer speakers or my ipod and when it changes songs from my lets say 320 bit rate to your ~130VBR (vbr = great) rate, i have to raise the volume higher and when it goes back to the higher bit rate it kills my ears. sorry im just very picky on my music.
VideoGameScrapBook
04-26-2008, 09:36 PM
I'm picky too, probably even more so. I think there are a lot of psychological misconceptions about bitrate out there. Volume has nothing to do with bitrate. I used the volume that was on the Mario Kart disc, which is the same exact volume that all the other rips used since they used vgmstream. Nearly all of them peak at 0db, so you don't even have the option to raise the volume, unless you apply dynamics and modify the sound itself. Hmm, you might have replayGain on, which is reading the metadata inserted by LAME, but that's unlikely. I really don't know why you're having a volume issue unless you're mixing in non-videogame music (and some videogame music does this too), which compresses (and I'm talking about waveform dynamic compression here) the shit out of their sound so that the average volume is much higher in order to compete with everybody else. That's why classical music recordings seem so quiet, because they use the entire volume range rather than "flatten" it all out.

you are right. im sorry i was confusing bitrate with something else. but yeah i do mix my music up. it even changes depending on who ripped it and how they did it (sound wise). i have some cds i ripped only using itunes, which for some reason changes the db (im guessing to try to equal it out, but its not every good). i think i can only hear the difference of bitrate due to my brother who explained to me about it. i used to not care and all of my music would be at 128 and ever since him explained i go with 320 and with the variety of music i listen to (rock, techno/trance, metal, classical, vgm, etc) and since im really lazy i just havent re-ripped my music everytime it switches bitrates (especially with high quality headphones) i/you can really notice it. you know what i mean.

Sorry it took awhile folks, but today's update is the result of your feedback, as well as listening to my own complaints! You don't have to redownload everything, I put every song that has changed since the very first posting into a zip folder. This soundtrack has been especially difficult to get 100% perfect because of all the different techniques it took in order to get the songs in the highest quality.
I also added the songs from the Mario Kart Channel. I'm surprised nobody mentioned them.

As I may or may not have mentioned, the Menu theme is incomplete. Each part lasts for about 40-45 seconds. however, you only have the first half of the first part. This is how it should be:
[Part 1][Part 2][Part 3]
Your version goes like this:
[Par|t 2][Par|t3][Par
It may not make sense, but the diagram is supposed to represent half of part 1, then the second half of Part 2 being played before the first part of Part 2, which then goes into the second half of Part 3, followed by the first part of Part 3. If it's still confusing, let's split each part into 2 sub-parts, for 6 parts altogether. The parts should go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Your version however, goes 1, 4, 3, 6, 5.
Here's a video showing how the menu theme should sound.
