Info provided by the PlayStation Blog Link (
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/10/metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots-%e2%80%93-product-details-revealed/#more-467) I have my LE edition reserved!
Hi all! Since Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is such a huge release, with so many different promotions and packages, we thought wed take some time to clarify the rumors and speculation going on out there, as well as break some news about what well be offering.
In case you have not heard, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots hits stores June 12th, 2008 and is rated M by the ESRB. This is for all the different configurations of the product, detailed below, which includes: the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PLAYSTATION 3 Hardware Bundle, and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition PLAYSTATION 3 Hardware Bundle. Well get to details on each of these below.
First, the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 free pre-order bonus offer DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code insert
This is a special offer, made through participating retailers and store locations, for customers that pre-order either the MGS4 Standard Edition or the MGS4 Limited Edition. Weve been receiving reports over the last couple of weeks that store locations have been making the item available as soon as theyve gotten the shipments in. As of this writing, participating retailers and their respective store locations should be getting their shipments and making them available. Unfortunately, we dont have any more granular information beyond that, so you really have to check with your retailer/store location of choice, see if they are participating, and find out when and if they will have stock available. Also, please bear in mind, quantities are very limited, so you will have to do a bit of legwork to secure your copy while supplies last.
The Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD contains extensive original video content, which primarily focuses on the interconnected history of the Snakes: Big Boss (Naked Snake), Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and of course, Solid Snake. Additionally, the DVD contains a compilation of the MGS4 trailers to date and a special Prologue video to MGS4.
An insert in the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD case is your ticket to the Metal Gear Online Beta, containing the Unique Product Voucher Code (UPVC) and instructions on redeeming the UPVC to download the Beta client via the PlayStation Store when the download becomes available. The download of the MGO Beta will be available from April 17th 2008 to May 5th 2008 and the game play will be available from April 21st 2008 to May 5th 2008.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have heard a lot of questions from customers who have attained the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD, particularly about redeeming their UPVC via the PlayStation Store right now. Lets make this clear: you CAN NOT redeem the UPVC for the MGO Beta download until April 17th, you will get an error until then. Do not attempt to redeem your UPVC for the MGO Beta right now, it wont work! You will be able to do so April 17th!
Second, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition
Yes, the image above represents the final box art for the MGS4 SE. Mr. Kojima and his team specifically designed the packaging art to convey his artistic vision for MGS4 for all you MGS fans, this has been the status quo since the beginning of the franchise. If you have put in the extra effort to pre-order with a participating retailer/store location, while supplies last, you can also obtain the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code insert (detailed above). This product, of course, includes the full game of MGS4 as well as the Metal Gear Online Starter Pack. What is an MGO Starter Pack? Well get to that in just a little bit below, suffice to say, it is a full and complete multiplayer component of MGS4. Additionally, exclusively available through GameStop, customers reserving the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition will receive an exclusive MGS4 Art Book at time of purchase. This offer is good while supplies last, see stores for details. The MSRP of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Standard Edition is $59.99 USD.
Third, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition
Yes, we just revealed another never before seen final box in this article, this time for the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, which will be available exclusively through GameStop. The MGS4 LE contains everything the SE offers (above, yes, with the potential to get the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code insert), as well as a collectible box with exclusive artwork by famed Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa, an additional Blu-ray disc containing two unique and never-before-seen Metal Gear Solid Making of documentaries, and the MGS4 Soundtrack. Additionally, customers reserving the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition will receive an exclusive MGS4 Art Book at time of purchase. This offer is good while supplies last, see stores for details. The MSRP of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition is $84.99 USD.
Fourth, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PLAYSTATION 3 Hardware Bundle
Again, hot off the presses, a never before seen box! Of note, for the first time ever, the PS3 will be packaged in a white box as opposed to the typical black one, and of course, is also branded with MGS4 goodness! Inside you will find the 80GB PLAYSTATION 3 package (yes, the 80GB PS3 has been resurrected for this bundle), and will include a PS3 DualShock 3 controller - yes, the PS3 controller that rumbles, and the MGS4 SE (detailed above).
Fifth, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition PLAYSTATION 3 Hardware Bundle
Sorry, no box reveal this time (we have to keep some surprises )! We are confirming that there will be a North America offering of this VERY, VERY Limited Edition bundle! This is the gunmetal grey PS3 the one seen selling out in a matter of moments in Japan at the KonamiStyle web store. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting product!
Lastly, sixth, wed like to shed some light on Metal Gear Online and the MGO Starter Pack that comes with MGS4
From what weve seen here at Konami, there has been some confusion as to what exactly a Starter Pack is, so lets put that to rest right now.
The MGO Starter Pack that comes with MGS4 (all configurations, detailed above) is a full-fledged, fully-featured multiplayer component of MGS4. It is not a demo or teaser in any way, as some have speculated. It comes packed with maps, weapons/items, an in-depth character creator where your character can be personalized, and most importantly, customized with special abilities that can be leveled and improved through experience, the SOP system, and much more. There will also be an extremely deep community experience through a specialized portal that will feature stats, communication, and other never before seen features - which well dig into at a later date
So, you may be wondering why we call it a Starter Pack, well, the answer is very simple: because its just the beginning. We have a huge slate of downloadable content planned for the game which encompasses new maps, weapons/items, and much more. Eurogamer has a fantastic preview up, which is a great primer on MGO, and details some of the unique features that show why its not just another shooter
But, of course, if youre one of the lucky few, youll be able to get your hands on the MGO Beta in just a couple of weeks (April 21st 2008 May 5th 2008), and see for yourself!
Also, please dont forget to check out the latest KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS REPORT from Ryan Payton at Kojima Productions in Japan!
And with that, we end this particular article. Well be watching the comments, so please let us know your thoughts, and specifically what youd like to hear (well do our best to address your burning questions, but please bear in mind, were really busy working on MGS4 among a lot of other great Konami games, so please understand we will not be able to get to everyones questions)!
Check back here on the PS Blog next Monday, April 14th 2008, as we have a very special surprise in store for you! See you next Monday!

You got your LE edition?
So your Limited Edition edition?
Bad grammar jokes aside, damn you MS for getting me excited again about this game. I just pre-ordered GTA4 and I really don't have the funds for MGS4. Gonna have to wait for my birthday for that one. Oh well, I hope GTA4 tides me over (HURRY UP APRIL 29TH!)

Yeah, I'm getting the Limited Edition edition that's limited.
At least you have until June 12th for MGS4. You should start a poll - GTA4 vs. MGS4. Which ever wins is the game you get. I'm getting Gran Turismo next week, and since I can only get 1 other game this month, I reserved Mario Cart Wii instead of GTA4. After Vice City, I just haven't cared about GTA since.
Unfortunately, I don't have a PS3 yet (don't plan on getting one until I get my HDTV). This is one of the few games that I'm aware of that I will be getting for it though. I'm thinking I'll get the Playstation Hardware Bundle though.

I can't wait to finally get this game. I don't have a PS3 yet, so I pre-ordered a MGS4 bundle.
That's the first PS3 must-have game for me (Gran Turismo 5 is on the list too, but not the Prologue version)...
I just hope the game will be on par with the first and the third, and I can't wait to get into more of Kojima's twisted sence of humor.
I just hope they won't make a second version of it like they did with MGS 2 and 3. They would most likely call it MGS 4: Subsannation.

So I was watching the trailers recently and I noticed at the end of one of them it's a stand off between REX and RAY with Liquid-Ocelot in RAY and I'm assuming Snake in REX.
If my assumptions are correct, that will be one hell of a boss battle.

If you have a PS3 you can download them off the PSN.
I think the reason RAY appeals less than REX was because in MGS2 the RAY boss battle was easy as hell, even on Extreme. Whereas REX in MGS was a fucking challenge. That's my take on it.

Given that you're the only person on my friends list Marvin, i'm hoping that the European beta and the American beta share servers.
But they probably won't :(
Still, I don't have to preorder MGS4 to get in the beta, which is good 'cause i'm broke! Hopefully i'll have enough cash come June 12.

Yeah, after reading about it, I thought it was kinda funny how only the Americans need to reserve the game for the online beta. But not sharing servers is what I'm expecting which sucks. We'll need to post our Metal Gear Online adventures here.

ALERT! Metal Gear Mondays Begin NOW on the PlayStation.Blog with Metal Gear Online Beta Details! (
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/14/alert-metal-gear-mondays-begin-now-on-the-playstation-blog-with-metal-gear-online-beta-details/#more-473)
Welcome to the kick-off of Metal Gear Mondays on PlayStation.Blog! Here well be bringing weekly articles about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Online packed with news and content including surprise announcements, guest authors, and much more!
This week well go into a lot of detail on Metal Gear Online and the upcoming MGO Beta. You must attain a free pre-order bonus gift Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code (UPVC) (Unless you're Raidenex) insert to participate in the MGO Beta as explained in our post last week.
If you have attained a MGO Beta UPVC, then Thursday, April 17th, this week, the download of the MGO Beta client will be available to you through the PlayStation Store on your PS3 (but please bear in mind, gameplay does not start until April 21st , and then will run until May 5th) - again, please do not try to redeem your UPVC before April 17th, you will just get an error message. You need to carefully follow the instructions provided on the MGO Beta UPVC insert in order to get at the download of the MGO Beta client through the PlayStation Store on your PS3. It is also important to note that your UPVC for the MGO Beta is good for only one PS3/PSN/PlayStation Store account, so you should absolutely NOT share your UPVC with anyone (unless you plan to forfeit your MGO Beta to whoever you give the UPVC to). There will not be any additional issue/reissue, replacement, etc of these codes - so again, we stress, please DO NOT share your UPVC for the MGO Beta with anyone!
Once youve got the MGO Beta client downloaded and installed, its time to load it up. Upon launching and going past the main menu, youll see that you need to sign up for a Konami ID. What is a Konami ID you ask? It is Konamis service that has actually been around for a while in Japan, which basically allows for a unified account and access across various Konami products and services. Konami ID will be used for the first time in MGO for the US, and using the Konami ID allows for some of the really unique features we plan to offer the community with MGO. Once you hit the Konami ID sign up menu option, you should notice something subtle, but really cool: MGO launches the PS3 web browser from in-game and takes you to the Konami ID registration page. You can also simply visit
http://id.konami.net from your favorite Web browser right now and sign up as well, to get a head start!
After the simple registration process, you will attain your Konami ID as well as GAME ID for MGO (the GAME ID is your MGO specific ID, basically). From there, its on to character creation
Similar to some popular MMOGs, MGO features a deep character creation component. Each user of the Beta will get one character slot to create a character with. This includes a wide variety of personalization options, as well as customizable and upgradeable skills. Players can select up to 4 skills to specialize in, to match their play style and increase their effectiveness. Close Quarter Combat (CQC), knife fighting, quickness, alertness, heavy weaponry mastery, demolition, and sniper mastery are just some of the skills you can specialize in.
Once you have set up your character, its on to the action. Use the lobbies to find the match youre looking for, from what is available in the Beta. Not all content and features are going to be available in the Beta.
Here are the some of the basics of MGO:
-Metal Gear Online (MGO), the multiplayer experience that combines the rich Metal Gear Solid universe with online combat, is available exclusively on the PLAYSTATION 3 system!
-MGO carries over the backdrop and control system of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (MGS4) to original online maps and game modes, with future downloadable content (planned to be released after the launch of MGS4) adding additional maps, characters, and other features.
-Among the new components this time around are battles featuring up to 16 players, and the Sons of the Patriots (SOP) system, allowing for enhanced squad communication. Close cooperation is essential to survival on the battlefield!
A little more information on the new SOP System and the MGO theme:
A few years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, the MGS4 story begins. In this short period of time, the world has changed drastically. PMCs [Private Military Companies] have taken the place of state armies as the worlds primary war engines - PMCs are private companies that specialize in warfare. The Big Shell Incident of MGS2 has prompted the U.S. Government to require all PMC soldiers be injected with nanomachines. These nanomachines regulate data, performance, and even emotions. Every soldier and weapon is controlled, regulated, and kept in check. This system, known as Sons of the Patriots (SOP), even makes it physically impossible for soldiers to turn their guns on their clients. In essence, it places the battlefield under corporate management. As a result, the fires of war continue to spread, and the PMCs inexorably increase their power and influence in world affairs.
The SOP System allows you to visually share information among your squad by linking your internal nanomachines. Information like your teammates positions, status, and even who theyre engaging with will all be provided to you in real-time. It also works through walls, letting you identify individuals by their digital silhouette. Gain the upper hand by scanning your enemy teams link and share their information with your comrades. In MGO, intercommunication and adaptive teamwork decide the outcome!
With this in mind, its on to the action! The MGO Beta will contain
Two maps:
Blood Bath
A kill house consisting of both surface and underground areas.
Groznyj Grad
The now abandoned weapons factory that housed the Shagohod in Metal Gear Solid 3. Contains open areas offering unobstructed views as well as indoor and rooftop locations.
Rules (aka gameplay modes)
Death Match
Kill or be killed in this race to get the most kills!
Team Death Match
Death Match takes a strategic turn, as you enlist your team to get the most kills!
Annex Mission
Various points around the map will need to be secured to achieve victory!
Capture Mission
Capture the opponents flag and return it to your base for points!
Items
Standard issue, with character:
-CBOX
-BINO
-S.PLUG.S
In the map:
-ENVG
-DRUM
Weapons
Primary, main weapons at base:
-vz83
-P90( +Suppressor)
-MP5, AK (+Grenade Launcher)
-M4 (Suppressor, Scope, Datsight, Grenade Launcher, Grip)
-M17 (Datsight, Scope, Grip)
-SVD
-MOSIN
-M14EBR
-DSR1
-M870

-STUN GRENADE
-CHAFF GRENADE
-SMOKE GRENADE
-ENEMY LOCATOR
-CLAYMORE

And, very importantly, MAN CANNONS!!!
This image should explain it all, but you basically launch your character across the maps. I cant tell you the sheer joy this brings to both the launched and those watching, you simply have to experience it for yourselves. Suffice to say, it allows for some very unusual strategies! Take a close look at the contextual action button at the bottom of the screen, w00t!
This info is subject to change, as things may be added or removed from the MGO Beta. There will also be some content surprises as the MGO Beta progresses, so please keep an eye out here on the PS Blog and at Konami.com, and keep playing!

Thankfuly his only gripe is with the graphics, and since he's a perfectionist, his disappointment is still not bad for us.
Link. (
http://kotaku.com/381412/kojima-disappointed-with-metal-gear-solid-4)
Looks like Kojima Jr. isn't the only one disappointed with Metal Gear Solid. The latest issue of the UK's Edge magazine contains an interview with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, who expresses disappointment with the latest game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It isn't so much the gameplay itself as it is the graphics.
"Game-wise, it's pretty close to the original vision: you sneak into the battlefield and can choose whether to do a stealth game or interfere with the battle more directly. But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction.
Now Kojima is a well-known perfectionist, but it is a bit disturbing to see him voice his dissatisfaction with what is supposed to be the masterpiece of the franchise. So where does he lay the blame for not fully realizing his vision?
"When we first showed the game engine at TGS, the staff were really proud and happy. PS3 was a dream machine, y'know, and we were going to work on this and that - and we had so many ideas. But when we actually started developing the game, we realized there were a lot of restrictions and so it turned out how you see it today. The original vision was to go ten steps further, the reality was just one step, which isn't to say we didn't progress.
So there was certainly progress made, but not enough progress...or more specifically, not enough power for progress. Apparently the team overestimated what the PlayStation 3 was capable of.
I remember saying three years ago that we wanted to create something revolutionary, but in reality we couldn't really do that because of the CPU. We're using the Cell engine to its limit., actually. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 machine, it's just that we weren't really aware of what the full-spec PS3 offered - we were creating something we couldn't entirely see.
Well there you have it, straight from the man himself. Metal Gear Solid 4 is not revolutionary. Personally I think the man is being a bit hard on himself, but that's what great minds do.
Finally, something interesting enough to actually get me posting in this thread.
First of all, let me mention that I have only completed the first MGS and am currently (on the rare occasions I can be bothered to turn on my PS2) working my way through MGS2. I disliked the first one rather intensely, as I've said before, although I'm finding the second one more palatable. Anyway, I'm by no means a fan of the series.
These comments of Kojima's are strange. Here are two facts that just don't seem to mesh with them:
1. Kojima has been a pretty staunch supporter of Sony.
2. He definitely knows that the game will sell regardless of its actual quality.
So, why would he make comments that could potentially harm the game's hype and negatively impact its sales? Why would he undermine Sony's claims of the PS3 being such a huge powerhouse? Is this a sign that Kojima has had some kind of falling out with Sony? Could he be softening up the market for a port or enhanced version for 360? Maybe it was just a few careless words that he'll regret later? Regardless of the answers, I think it's worth discussing.
Hynad
04-18-2008, 08:16 PM
He can still support Sony while addressing his complain about the power. He didn't state anything in comparison to the 360. He said that to completely satisfy himself, the PS3 wasn't powerful enough.
I don't think you should dig too far into this.
When I saw you replied to this, I knew it was going to be something on the "anti-sony" line.
Hynad, sorry to be so blunt, but stick it up your ass and burn it.
There is nothing anti-sony about my post. There is nothing anti-PS3 about my post. There is nothing anti-MGS about my post. It is merely an observation that I'd like to see some discussion about.

04-18-2008, 10:04 PM
I think it's really strange how he mentions the Cell is being used to its limits, but not the PS3. Though he could have meant either way. I also think it's rather astonishing that the full potential of the PS3 has been harnessed only a year and a half after its release. Of course, that could just be me putting on an ignorance-cap, but wasn't the PS2 after 3 or 4 years still pumping out better looking games than before?
Of course his words could just be harsh criticism on himself. Maybe Prak is also right that these are just words he gave without much thought and will regret them later.

Metal Gear Online servers are now up and running. I had a chance to play about 2 hours ago when I was home during my hour lunch break. I went through a few rounds of team death match, killed a few but was killed many times. It's not very fast pace, but it does feel more real in a stealth way. But it does feel quick in its own way - if that makes any since. First Person view is something I'll need to get used to; unlike a target in the center of the screen in most FPS, you're litteraly seeing the point of view of your "alter ego". When you shoot, everything on screen shakes. You're actually aiming with the gun. I'll need to play some more.

Hideo Kojima and Kotaku just cleared everything up. o.O
Link. (
http://kotaku.com/5008653/americans-brag-ps3-no-letdown-kotaku-is-wrong)
No, no, no! When Hideo Kojima said the MGS4 graphics on the PS3 weren't to his "satisfaction" or that he realized there were lots of "restrictions" the PS3 posed, he didn't mean it. He was just trying to be humble, you know! He's not disappointed with the PS3 at all. He is totally happy with it. The PS3 is awesome. Says Kojima:
On the internet, there's stuff saying "Hideo Kojima" isn't satisfied with the PS3. I'd like to talk about that today. I just got back from Paris and did 15 interviews and everyone asked me about it, did I say that. The meaning of what I said has totally been changed, made totally different. Today, I'd like to talk about that. Why did it turn into that? When I'm doing an interview, I answer in Japanese, and I can't control how the writer will interpret that into English... What I say is then translated in English, and the writer then changes that into their own words and writes that. So, right there, the meaning of what I say changes a lot.
I am Japanese, so I try to be modest. I'm an especially modest person. I dont wish to brag about it to say "I am the amazing Metal Gear guy" or to say "This is the best one", just like how Americans brag stuff like this... That's why i interview in Japanese, and Mr. Sai (translator) translates my side of the inteviews very well in English. Westerners do not have a tradition of modesty. And so, the statements are translated correctly, but the original meaning is totally different. And those statements are on a totally different website and the meaning totally changes. Regarding my recent comment about my disappointment with MGS4, the comments derived from the article "MGS4, Inside The Biggest PS3 Game" to the post "Hideo Disappointed with MGS4." It's become totally different. This was in English, and here's where it gets strange. Japanese readers then translated that in Japanese and put it on their websites, writing things like "Oh, the PS3 is dead." Then that spread through the internet and now people are writing things like "Hideo Kojima Is Making MGS4 on the PS3." This is no good... It's funny how others think "Did Hideo really say that?" then ask me, and my answer is obviously "No" but then... I guess I am responsible for all of the articles...
Now I'm going to say what I really wanted to say, and this is what I told those 15 reporters:
Let's say this developer is making hardware, in this case a game, and that hardware is at the level of a car. And when looking at the specs, the developer claims the car is able to fly. Now there is no stopping when you say, "This is a car that can fly." When you claim that it can fly, the speculation grows from "oh so it can FLY?!!!" And the developer would set his goals higher. The specualtion is that if the car flies, then it should reach a MACH speed...but it doesnt stop there...it'd go beyond the specualtion of then "it should go into space!" with all the excitement around, and the developer would go deeply into making the car going into space... however, he'll come up to the public and say the car reaches the MACH speed, but it fails to go into the space. But he shouldn't give up, because for a car to even reach a mach speed and go into air is revolutionary. I wished to convey my thoughts like that, but I guess it didn't work very well.
Recently I've been thinking about not giving interviews. That's not my job. My job is making games... The next time I interview in America, I will just say "MGS4 is the best, the end." It's not cool for a Japanese to speak so blatantly, and I don't want to say that. But if I don't, things like this [above] can happen... If you look at MGS4, I think you'll understand... MGS4 isn't exactly my property, so I don't have a total control over it and sometimes I get confused with it. Some may be disappointed the way I say things, but I do release the game with confidence. In fact that what I have been doing, not just this PS3 game, but my previous PS2 titles. I always reached for the higher goal and I try to go for it... Things like this often happen with Japanese newspapers. Where they take only the choice quotes. They don't change what you say, but the meaning's different, and the meaning changes. I'm always careful while giving interviews. Even in my company, im learning a lot about media training, but I wanted to do more than just that and here i am with the interview, but if things like above keep happening, I won't do anymore interviews. I don't get paid for these interviews at all. [jokingly] I won't do them anymore! I've decided! I'll stop doing my podcast! Like that.
It's not like we were looking at some shit Babelfish translation of a Famitsu interview. It was from EDGE magazine, and you can read the original quotes and see the original magazine page here. Also, keep in mind, EDGE's comment that Kojima was "being modest" OR Fahey's original comments:
Personally I think the man is being a bit hard on himself, but that's what great minds do.
So there was certainly progress made, but not enough progress...or more specifically, not enough power for progress. Apparently the team overestimated what the PlayStation 3 was capable of.
Now Kojima is a well-known perfectionist, but it is a bit disturbing to see him voice his dissatisfaction with what is supposed to be the masterpiece of the franchise.
If you stick your foot in it and screw up, it's always easier to shift the blame, pull the You-Don't-Understand-Us-Japanese card or gloss over important details like, you know, reading. This wasn't a cultural misunderstanding or blowing things out of proportion, this was a PR disaster. Granted, maybe Kojima, after all these years, really isn't that savvy about dealing with the Western press. Maybe, he expects people to understand that he only uses double talk and metaphors because those are much easier for everyone to grasp. When in Rome, don't do as the Romans do!
This really begs the question: We understand why Kojima might be humble about his own game (fair enough!), but why be "humble" or make excuses for the PLAYSTATION 3? Last we checked, Kojima doesn't work for Sony.

I'm personally looking forward to how the Solid Snake story ends. If the game turns out to be as good as I hope both gameplay and Story wise, I just might get a PS3. Others games like Killzone 2, FFXIII, and Resistance 2 can only help my decision, if those games turn out great as well.
Getting my MGS4 PS3 Bundle today...hopefully.

OK, I just started playing the game. I cannot post any in depth comments because I'm returning to the game in a couple minutes...
First thing I have to say is that I'm among the gamers out there who enjoy the in game (and even better if they are in-engine!) cut scenes. So the lenghty cut-scenes so far have been a blast.
Second and last thing I'll say for now is...
Holy fucking shit Batman is that game's artistic direction AWESOME.
Ok, now back to the game. See y'all later.

im getting mine until tuesday :(
im referring to the mps3 /mgs4 bundle.
btw, its happening again...
when mgs2 was released, it was declared the instant MGS masterpiece that not even a newer mgs would take the title away from it.
and, for its time, it was true, but then came mgs3 and its superb story and totally kicked 2's ass.
except the camera, which was the major complain.
now with mgs4, the camera and game are fine, but the graphics are not (according to kojima).
so in mgs5, he will concentrate on the graphics more, but will leave something else that one will most likely complain.

May I say that this game is awesome? I haven't had much free time to play so I'm still on act 1, but the gameplay, story, graphics, etc are awesome. I don't mind the cut-scenes since they can be skipped, but the gameplay and everything is solid. Ok, I'm going back to work.

Noskillbassist, I don't complain about the infos, as I already finished the game. I will just say that you're a complete idiot whose only purpose in life is to shit everything for everyone.
You don't even mention what kind of thing might be spoiled for the unsuspecting curious member (as in a tag with the message: MAJOR SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED THE GAME!!!). And you basically spoil most of the major plot twists.
To use your own words, you're an ass hole, and you don't even try to hide it.
Which puts you even higher on the ass hole gauge.

It's a fucking spoiler tag. Having spoilers in that tag should come to no surprise. Be glad I didn't just post it all without the tags.
It may be a spoiler tag, but it would've been best to say what you are going to spoil. Most other forums I go to where you don't even let out a hint of what you're going to spoil would be a one way ticket of an account deletion (that's their kind of warning). The IDX community doesn't even have spoiler tags but even in the rules, it says spoilers are prohibited anyways.

So thanks!
Heh it's like telling kids not to push the red button without telling them what it will happen if they do.
I already beat it so no real complaints here altho I probably would of stayed away from it just by reading "Spoiler" just in case.
I probably wouldn't have pushed the red button either.

I bought MGS4 the Limited Edition when it came out. I really like this game. I played it the Thursday it came out, and finished it on the Friday after that. I spent a long time on it, 17 hours, and couldn't get enough. It wasn't perfect, but it was the best game I played on a next-generation console, imo. To me, though, MGS1, MGS3, and MGS4 are all on the same level, and MGS2 is on the side since it wasn't my favorite.
I recently finished the game on Liquid Easy: no alerts, no kills, and no continues. It was fun. I'm playing it again on Liquid Easy to get the... Assassin's Emblem. I already got 50 kills. Then, I spent more than 60 minutes under a cardboard box for the Tortoise emblem. Currently, I'm clinging to a wall, and seeing if I can stay there for over an hour for the Frog emblem. Then after that I'm going to try to get other emblems if at all possible, and then it's time for... The Boss Extreme

How long have you been here? You should know well enough that this forum operates much differently than others.
I don't give a shit what your IDX forum does to spoilers.
Here's the skinny.
Append a little description before you spoiler tags, unless it is SUPER ULTRA CLEAR what you are spoiling from the rest of your post.
Also, not that it applies in this thread, but if you are putting something NSFW in a spoiler tag, say NSFW before the tags.
See:
Spoilers: FFShrine now has spoiler tags! This isn't something we're going to be terribly strict on, but please mark major spoilers before you post them unless they're in a thread that's designated as a spoiler-zone. If the thread or your post doesn't make it clear what you would be spoilering, please specify in your post. If you are using spoiler tags for a nsfw image, put that in your post too. If you're not sure whether or not to use one, err on the side of caution, or feel free to ask a mod or admin for their opinion.

Sol or Solar gun. Of course, Konami did make the Boktai games too,
so I guess it does follow the trend of putting in some material from

BB Corp, Foxhound, and music spoilers. --Mgmt
I nearly squealed like a schoolgirl when I heard the revamped "Enclosure" and "Mantis Hymn" themes.
I was rather disappointed by the Crying Wolf battle. In fact, the only Beast I felt was given the proper presentation was Laughing Octopus. Her dialogue, introduction and battle were some of the most enjoyable experiences in MGS4.
I can't help but feel that the rest of the BB Corps were rushed, given just a few lines to speak pre-battle, no introduction, no inreracting with other characters.
But maybe this was done on purpose, seeing as Decoy Octopus was the least explored of the original Foxhound.

I know it's been a while since this thread has been updated but this piece of information needed to be brought up for the true fan boys out there. While doing some research on some stuff not related to the MGS series I accidentally found the inspiration behind the name of the Bi-pedal tanks (aka) gekkos)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakajima_J1N
This was a two engine Japanese Night fighter and reconnaissance plane. It was called the "Gekko" (Meaning: Moonlight) by the Japanese, and was given the code name, you guessed it "Irving" by the Americans. Kojima and his word plays, I swear. Also, Yes there was another Japanese fighter aircraft Called the "Raiden", though I doubt that has anything to do with MGS' Raiden.
Hmm pretty cool to know. Most names in games usually have relation to something relatively obscure (to me atleast). So whenever you find a connection it's sorta satisfying.
