I got FF1 about a week ago and I've been playing it for just over 6 hours now but i'm stuck and could really use some help. I've restored the first crystal (earth) and after it showed a clip of a statue in the earthgift shrine dissapearing and leaving a door behind so I assumed I was supposed to go there. I got to the bottom floor and there were two different bosses I could choose from so I tried one and got absolutely annihilated in a couple of moves so I loaded my save and tried the other boss only to get beaten even worse, after that i'm thinking that that may be a place to go later in the game, all my characters are level 25 and i've beaten every boss up until now with ease and i never have trouble with any battles, so i'm wondering, do I have to beat those two incredibly hard bosses (ones called cerberus, the other I can't remember) or do I go somewhere else? Any help will be appreciated, thanks

You're in one of the game's four optional dungeons that open up once you've restored their respective Crystals. You don't have to complete it.

Have you talked to an old man who gives you a magic canoe? (there in the crescent lake town)

Yeah, i've done quite a bit today, i've done the fire crystal and just got a key item from this weird robot thing in the waterfall.

Lol, point taken. He's beaten the game at hundreds of times, and he's also done it with only blackbelts, and only whitemages.
He overall wins.

I completed it earlier this morning :D It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, I didn't have any trouble with Chaos at the end. The hardest part about it was finding out where to go next or where to get an item lol. Overall an 8/10 i'd say.

Now remember that EarthGift Shrine? Go kick some ass there and the other 3 secret dungeons. 4 in total.
The secret dungeons are really fun, so I would try them out now that you've beaten the game.

I can't, I overwrote my save to keep my bestiary when I replay. Plus I had a master in my party who sucked ass. when I replay I'll have two warriors and then i'll kick some ass in the earthgift shrine.

I've made the game too easy on myself by jumping into the optional dungeons in between the storyline bosses. =(
After beating the four of the Earthgift shrine, I found Marilith way too easy.
Then, after beating the FFIV elemental lords in the fire chasm, I realized I've jumped head first into optional dungeons. >_<
I passed the first one at level 22 and the next one at 43 (barely XD ).
I guess which two physical attackers you have in your party doesn't really matter as long as you can back them up. I couldn't have beaten the first two optional dungeons without my two mages, but in the fire chasm, Cagnazzo kept spamming Tsunami until I stopped reviving my knight and ninja and finished him off with my black and white wizards alone.
Finishing that bestiary was pretty involved. I remember that there is an enemy that only spawns on lava floors below 30 in the 40 floor dungeon.
The problem, of course, is that the floors are generated randomly. So, you have to study the spawn pattern and make sure you start your descent only when you've got the right one.

That's the main party I usually use. 2 fighters, white mage, and black mage. Seems to be one of the best Damage Dealing teams, because you have someone to hold the Excalibur, and another to hold the Masamune.
After you beat the game, you should easily rape the 4 shrines.

cool man.....I had a thought now what about two fighters and two red mages? I think I haven't tried that before probably not too cheap though but man that would be overkill wouldn't it

When I finish the game though and get past the credits though, how do i continue the game on after the chaos shrine? I seem to only have the option of starting a new game.

If uve saved it after beatin chaos then you can't continue.
btw i found the water 1 the hardest but easier wen i'd got the ultima weapon. Found out a strategy with 1 knight, 1 ninja, 1 white wizard n 1 black wizard that works prettty well on most bosses (well, it did 4 me)
1st turn:Everyone use Light curtains (cast NulAll)
2nd turn:Knight attacks all the time from now on, Ninja uses temper on knight (increases attack) and does all the time from now on, Black wizard casts haste on knight, white wizard casts curaga and keeps casting every turn
3rd turn:Black wizard switches to keep casting temper on knight as well (if haste runs out, cast it again)
Keep doing this and the boss should be down without too much problems (be careful of Shinryu tho, he's really annoyin)

I recomend leaving the 4 Soul of Chaos dungeons till after Tiamat.
Then do them in the order they were unlocked...
Oh if you are playing the PSP version and trying to complete the bestiary, dont worry if you cant find the Dark fighter, sekhret and Earth Troll amongst others. They turn up in droves in the Labyrinth of time
