what are some really cool things to do with your ds and how do you go about doing it? i heard you can turn it into a pda, use it to browse the web/chat/email, play minigames. what do i need to do these things? do i buy something illegal? do i buy something legal and mod it? do you have ds mods?

Well I know you can run homebrew applications with loading hardware such as the Max Media Dock. As for Web applications there is an official Web Browser from Nintendo you can get.

As far as I know, all the stuff you buy for it is completely legal. After that, its grey area. Just like downloading music is legal... If you already have the CD. or whatever.

Sarah had some really good recommendations for me when I was looking up this stuff. If you can drag her off WoW, I'd ask her.

Revolution for DS (R4DS) carts are one of the more popular popular methods of running homebrew on the DS. You just need the R4 cart and a Micro SD card of whatever size you think is necessary. The R4 comes with a USB flash drive that has a slot in the back where you insert the Micro SD card, which you in turn insert into the top of the R4 cart once you've transfered applications/games from the computer. After that you just download the latest version of the software it requires from the Revolution's official site (I believe they've stopped shipping the software with the actual device) and you should be set.

I got an m3 lite perfect + passcard for about 100$. does everything I could want it to.

short of playing SNES roms, but none of them can do that out of the box.

omg sarah that's what I use

I don't understand why people would want a slot 1 device like the r4 since it can't run gba roms.

Well, in my case it was purely because it was cheaper. I managed to get the R4 and a 1 GB SD card for what would be around $70 US, including shipping for the R4. Playing full pirated games wasn't really what I bought it for anyway, so there wasn't really any reason for me to go the extra mile.
