Does anyone else agree that Grant Kirkhope's score to the classic N64 shooter was... well, pardon the pun, perfect? It just blends so well with the game and incorporates so many styles in a way that they too can coexist without the album/score sounding disjointed.

My favorite track is Skedar Leader, it's so epic!

I love the entire soundtrack. Every single song is a classic. Such a shame he didn't return for PDZ.

PDZ was a shame, in most respects. at least, that's what i thought.

I thought the PDZ soundtrack was ok, but not great. It got my hopes up after I heard Combat Arena and I didn't end up liking any of the other tracks nearly as much.

I just started playing some of the old PD tracks. It's nice to see that they've held up after all these years. Definitely one of my favorites from the n64.

Perfect Dark Zero's soundtrack, in my opinion, is abhorrent, save a few tracks. Combat Arena isn't good either, it's a track that teases you into thinking its good but then turns rotten after a few seconds. The soundtrack proved that around good synthesizers, Dave Clynick goes completely over-the-top and turns into a monkey on crack.

Seriously, the whole soundtrack, unlike PD's which maintained a fairly serious tone throughout, was a mixture of a third-rate Paul Oakenfold type techno dance beats, 70s funk, spy themes and 80s Europop. A mesh that does not work at all. The theme he created (not the pop songs) was very weak, and does not hold the same gravity as the original Carrington Institute theme by Kirkhope or Clynick's own CI Operative theme from the first game. The pop songs are all completely banal as well.

When Clynick would be a little more grounded (which wasn't very often) the soundtrack would work or the two times when he incorporated the Carrington Institute theme into the score (during the final battle and when it worked tremendously during the subsequent outro).

Here are some tracks that weren't terrible:

Mission Select - Clynick playing it more serious, keeping a pop vibe much like the original PD, yet not going OTT

Pause Game - Don't like the funk, but it's pretty subdued, yet tuneful.

Fail - A brooding choral piece! Who doesn't love those? Sounds a bit too 80s though, and strangely reminiscent of a song appearing in Planes, Trains and Automobiles (a movie which housed some of the cheesiest 80s songs ever).

DataCore Demolition (Training) - A piece that sets a serious tone and uses very light instrumentation, yet is very effective.

Deathmatch with Maihem! - A track where it's completely appropriate to go OTT. You're dealing with someone who probably loves this kind of music and it would only make sense for you to listen to it during a battle.

Laboratory Rescue (Stealth) - Sort of like a poor man's G5 Building: Reconaissance track with some added Clynick stylings.

The River Extraction tracks - Very spylike, sounds a bit like a John Barry mixed with Paul Oakenfold, but their forgivable even with the strange techno in the background.

Arena Showdown - Use of the original Perfect Dark theme in the actual battle and the beautiful, sad piano version in the outro get me every time.

Don't get me wrong I like big tracks with lots of instruments but when you go down a route where the music even makes the game feel like a parody then it's not in the right direction. OTT things happened in PD, yet the music's atmosphere always made it like this was no laughing matter and you, as Joanna, had to take this seriously or the world would pay the price.

I recall when anyone fussed around in the multiplayer track lists in PD I would hear "DUN! DUN! DUN!" Almost every track started out this way or at least all the X tracks did. I always thought it was kind of funny, but once it got going it was all good.

Yes, all of them, especially dD: Extraction, start with a punch and the X tracks have to since they accompany the more "action packed" parts of the game. All of the tracks have their own merits and all fit their respective levels wonderfully.

I thought PDZ's "Rooftop Escape" was the best song in the OST, because it gets VERY Perfect Dark at around the 4 minute mark.

Actually, on re-listening to the track, I'd have to agree that it's not as bad as I thought, but it's still a far cry from the Orginal PD's soundtrack.

I owned the actual Nintendo released OST, but it is lost somewhere. I'm really unhappy about that. I is absolutely classic none the less. Brings back the memories. :) I love Alien Conflict & Skedar Mystery!

I'm very sad that the score doesn't get the praise it should. It's extremely well-crafted and it's definitely movie caliber.

Ok, someone please give me an answer.

Is there any link to an entire rip of the game? I already own the soundtrack, but I'm dying to listen to the tracks not featured on the CD. (an example song would be the one featured here at 5:30 on)

Any help would be insanely appreciated

That's PDZ. Question though, is it outro music? Because Rare released some unreleased stuff on I believe, rare-extreme.com

Thank you for responding. I was only able to find one remixed mp3.

As for your question, I am referring to intro, outro, and in-game music, not featured on the official soundtrack. Do you know if they exist somewhere? Thanks

I know exactly what you are talking about. That song reminds me of the original PD theme.

I hate it that Microsoft only chooses certain songs to be released on its soundtracks. Like in Halo 2, I own both 2 disc releases, yet there are STILL songs missing from the game.

If you ever find a complete rip for Perfect Dark Zero, let me know dude. Thanks

Isn't Rooftop - Escape the one after Limelight? Or are you talking about the outro cutscene music?

I was referring to the song that plays after Limelight during the actual game. It is one of three songs played during the club level.

The songs I am referring to are as follows:

-The loading screen music (2 songs I believe)
-Intro, outro, and cutscene music for every level
-Other miscellaneous tracks featured during gameplay during several levels

Any finds for a rip of the game???

This link is to extra MP3s on Rare's website, however, none of them seem to be this mystery track you speak of that comes after LimeLight. I'd have to replay the game, but I don't recall a track after Limelight, I thought it was just that song for the rest of the level. Maybe I'll have to replay it. Positive it's not the outro music? That's what the other stuff is on that website, as well as the Bridge Assault music and the temple.

I haven't seen any music rips of Perfect Dark Zero either, but I'm curious about this track you speak of.

Wow, thank you very much. Those are some of the songs I'm looking for. The song I am referring to in the club level is the one that loops. If you play thru it again, make sure not to hit the alarm so you can hear it.

The other song I really want is the one featured on this video at 5:30 on

Thanks though for helping me out. I really appreciate it. If I come across the songs I speak of, I'll let you know

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

I found them, I found them!
http://perfectdark.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/music/

They're all here, I think, except for the song in the club level (go figure)
I've been waiting to hear these as mp3's ever since I got the game.

Let's keep looking for that club song though, cuz it is one of the best in the game

Yeah it is the best one!
I'm in the process of beating the game again to see if the name of the music is in the credits. But at first I figure that it was probably the DJs from limelight. Kepi &... (I forget). I don't have any of there CDs to test this out.

You know what, you may be right. I never thought that the song could actually be a continuation of Limelight, maybe an extended version perhaps? I'll be on the lookout.
