Final Fantasy II

There really isn't much to say about this game. Probally the most difficult and annoying Final Fantasy game in existance. Although, I still haven't played V, so I can't be sure. Anyway, one of the things that makes this game most annoying/difficult, is the fact that the game is difficult as it is without Pandemonium, that horribly long dungeon with no save point to be found.

And then there is Final Fantasy III. After the crystal tower, wherein you fight a boss called Xande, there are FIVE MORE BOSSES after that fight, and there is again, NO SAVE POINT inbetween. Six boss fights is insane.

Anyway, both were VERY VERY difficult, as you would probally be able to see... but which do you think is harder?

My vote is tied. Because Final Fantasy II is hard enough without Pandemonium, but six boss battles is insane.

The World of Darkness definately. I remember being stuck at that part for around a month and eventually giving up because I didn't want to return and grind.

I just beat Final Fantasy II on Dawn of Souls yesterday and I have to say that it was actually one of the easiest Final Fantasies I have ever played. I had my characters with no less than 2000 HP and their spells around levels 8 and the Emperor was sickengly easy 0__o.

Honestly I still don't know why people are saying it's the hardest FF. The hardest ones imo are IV and V.

Final Fantasy IV was one of the easiest. Save for those huge head things before the fight with Zeromus. I still have never played V...

well, the dawn of souls version lets you save anywhere, which makes it way too easy, but try playing the famicom version and see if its really all that much easier.

I actually had no problem with the FFII final dungeon. I'm still stuck on the FFIII one though. That place is REALLY annoying.

Yeah and if I remember correctly on the PS version you can only save in the hotels (well FFI anyway).

For FFII on the PS1 you could only save outside on the main map and also had use of the memo save.

One of the differences between the Famicom-PS1 versions & the GBA version is that the GBA version gave you some HP Bonuses randomly in addition to the original HP trick. Also, the HPs for enemies were different. The sacrifice for that was no more of the Cancel Trick for Weapon & Magic Experience.

I've played through FFII on both PS1 & GBA and I would definetly say that the PS1 version is harder.

As for FFIII (I got the DS version), I'm just at the Crystal Tower and am at around lvl50 and just above 2000 HP each. Trying to grind with Black Belts.

I think FFV is the toughest. FF2 was definitely right behind it in 2nd.

Final Fantasy V was easy, in my opinion, as well as cheesy and a bit on the bad side.

I think that if you embrace the job system in the right way, it is one of the easiest, in my opinion.

Thats true actually. FFV is a bit easier if u know your job classes, and how to strategize them. good point, but my opinion remains the same.

I agree. However, the thing is, even Final Fantasy II can be made easier if you embrace the various elements of it. Like taking control and increasing your HP yourself, by embracing the fact that you can attack your own party members, and that your HP is raised based on your HP at the beginning of the battle minus the remaining HP at the end of the battle. Same with MP... I think that is... And your Defense and Stamina is raised per getting attacked.

I would assume that Final Fantasy III could be made easier, given vast amounts of leveling and hours of girlfriend-less, friend-less, maddening gameplay.

So, there really aren't very many "hard" things in video games in general, especially not in the Final Fantasy series, if you think about it. Save for the Final Fantasy IV remake. THAT is hard.

Sure, Final Fantasy games are easy if you spend a lot of time building up your characters.

On the other hand though, if you play intelligently enough, you can finish each games with a party at around level 35 without too much difficulty.

And generally speaking, games from the NES era (those that preceded them, and also many from the SNES era) were a lot more difficult than today's ones, where they now take your hand from the start and "breeze" you to the ending credits.

I agree with you Hynad. Games these days are made way easier than the NES days. Not just RPG's, the people that make games in general hold your hand to the end. the only "modern" game I can think of that had some difficulty was Xenogears, and even that was what, 10 years ago? And I also agree if you embrace the job system, and elements of the game, they aren't that hard, but FF2 and FF5 pose difficulty, more so over all the others in general I think is what im trying to say.

And yea, Hard shouldn't = annoying.

WTF?!

I liked Final Fantasy II. The leveling system was unique and you could make yourself pretty strong right in the beginning of the game. I liked Mindu, Ricard, and all of the side characters. Probably the FF game with the most deaths, so it's darker than the others in the series.

If your trying to play the original NES version, then yeah, it's going to be difficult, but the remake (Dawn of Souls) was really enjoyable.

I believe he means the original. Especially since you didn't have to option to attack yourself in that game XD (making their status raise more). I liked FFII

FFIII's World of Darkness was pretty difficult, since it was a one way trip with no save points (has that changed in the remake?)...unless you cheated with an emulator.

I found World of Darkness to be the hardest dungeon I have ever been to in the classic Final Fantasy games mostly because of the frustrating 6 fights. But then again, I was able to save anywhere including Pandemonium in the version of Final Fantasy 2 I have played
