Thanks for the upload. I forgot that this CD was just the orchestra tracks, so I was surprised by the absence of tracks like Bowser's Star Reactor at first (until I realized that it is a synth track), and there were some other omissions from this version that were unexpected, but overall, great soundtrack and an excellent upload. Thanks again.

To be honest I thought they would be released at the same time, They still may well be as some people could only get the gold version (1CD) Based on their club Nintendo status. I have ordered the platinum version from another website but I doubt i will recieve it at the same time as club Nintendo Members.

HoneyHive Galaxy is orchestrated. But I think ToyTime isn't.

Maybe Sweet Sweet and Toy Time were put in as extra songs since they're remixes of classic Mario songs.

The scan for the track list is a bit too blurry for me to make out most of the titles. Here's what I've been able to manage to make out so far:
1: Overture
4: Catastrophe
5: Peach Kidnapped
6: Into the Galaxy
7: Egg Planet
8: Rosalina of the Observatory 1
9: Honeybee Workers
10: Stardust Road
11: Battlerock
12: Glass Beach
13: Rosalina of the Observatory 2
14: Bowser Jr. Battle
16: Floater Land
17: Window Garden
18: Rosalina of the Observatory 3
21: Galaxy Plant
25: Super Mario Galaxy
26: Bubble Comet
28: Super Mario 2007

I'll keep working at it, and edit this as I figure out more.
EDIT 1: Added Tracks 8, 13, 18. ロゼッタ (Rosetta) is Rosalina's Japanese name.
EDIT 2: Added Track 9. I'm translating these direct, rather than looking up the galaxy names. They should be fairly obvious, anyway.
EDIT 3: Can't read anymore. My kingdom for a better scan. Everything else is too blob-like to be legible. That's all for now.
EDIT 4: Added Track 21. Still trudging on through illegibility...

Smouvy
01-24-2008, 06:29 PM
Keep in mind that, even though they don't sound orchetrated, they still can be orchestrated. as far as I know, they had a metronome while recording because the tempo had to be exactely right so Kondo could add extra tracks afterwards...

I don't know if that's really true, but I've read it somewhere!

The platinum soundtrack is a two-disc set with, I believe, a total of 81 tracks. I'm pretty sure that the normal, single-disc soundtrack available in this thread is identical to Disc 1 of the platinum soundtrack, so you can download this one now, and then just wait for the platinum soundtrack to hit the web to get Disc 2.

Only3Penguins

I'm at work, so I haven't had a chance to download and listen to any of this yet, but... for those tracks on this disc that have dynamic music (i.e. where the instrumentation changes in different situations, like how Beach Bowl Galaxy's music changes when you dive underwater)... Do the tracks on this CD feature those changes, or do they just stick with the standard versions of the tracks?

Hmm... I don't know what to expect honestly. Nintendo has put out soundtracks before with dynamic music shifts within a single track. BUT... in this case, with disc 1 orchestrated and disc 2 synth... this could be a case of the standard versions being orchestrated and the dynamic changes being a synth layer played simultaneously. We'll see when we see... that platinum version's gotta turn up pretty soon...

I thought the chorus kicks in WHEN he's sliding around on his shell. What's the "shell variation" you're referring to?

Peppydude101
01-24-2008, 07:43 PM
The chorus variation is when his tale is on fire, an extra instrument is added when he is spinning on his shell and it makes it sound more epic.

Disc 2 has additional music. Disc 1 has 28 tracks, Disc 2 has 53 tracks. Total of 81 tracks. Disc 1 from the platinum version is believed to be identical to the single-disc release. Can't really simplify it more than that.

Although we are lacking the extra Platinum version, which would be very nice as it apparently includes variations on the main themes and also presumably includes all the boss themes and the 'Bowser's Road' theme that this one is missing, it's still very nice to have this, and ripped at such a high quality too. Fantastic. ^^

What we do need though is a better scan so we can translate the track names fully.

Peppydude101

Well This ain't a translation but I know what most of them are:
1: Mario Galaxy Title
2: Star Festival
3: Under Attack
4: Bowser is Defeated
5: Bowser's Fireballs
6: Grand Star Rescue
7: Good Egg Galaxy
8: Comet Obsevatory (1-2 Grand Stars)
9: Honeyhive Galaxy
10: Space Junk Galaxy
11: BattleRock Galaxy
12: Beach Bowl Galaxy
13: Comet Observatory (3 - 4 Grand Stars)
14: Bowser's Jr's Airship Battle
15: Ghostly Galaxy Interior
16: Buoy Base Galaxy
17: Gusty Garden Galaxy
18: Comet Obsevatory (5 - 6 Grand Stars)
19: Bowser's Battle Theme
20: Melty Molten Galaxy (or hell prominence galaxy)
21: Bowser's Galaxy Reactor
22: Bowser's Final Battle
23: Ending Cutscene
24: 120 Star Ending (piano version of gusty garden when the actual game has good egg galaxy)
25: Credits
26: Purple Coin Theme
27: Sweet, Sweet Galaxy
28: Toy Time Galaxy

Y'know I'm just kidding around, right, Mr. Ablum? It's nothing personal against you. Just the way you type.

This soundtrack rules! Thanks so much for posting this. Can't wait for the last part that comes with the platinum edition.

Does anyone know is this soundtrack just a one off thing only available for a short time or will this OST become more easier to get in its disk form as the hype for it dies down a little? I'd love to get my own copy of it at some point for collecting purposes.

As far as I know, you can play it with Winamp, use the built-in disk writer plugin to make a .wav of it and then re-encode it into a mp3 with your bitrate of choice, but if there is a faster way to do it, I'm all ears.

HylianTX
01-25-2008, 04:57 PM
well if im correct, you can take a program called "Clone CD" have it "Burn From Image" to make them back into normal CDs, then drop them right back onto your hardrive as any rip you want them

Uhm, aparently not, just installed foobar and tried to open the Cue with it, it just locks up and shuts down.

Either make a much more Elaborate walkthrough, or rip these files to a Lossless Format thats playable (fuck even 320kbs MP3 works for me). Cuz this is like giving me a cookie inside a lockbox with no key

SMG disc extract coming soon =)

Disc extract as in the DSP files straight out of the game itself? Because that will only be the streaming audio. The game also has sequenced audio and I don't believe that can extracted in any way that can be listened to; no one's created a winamp plugin or anything that can handle sequenced Wii (or GCN) audio yet. Pretty sure this two-disc platinum CD set will actually provide more SMG music than anyone currently knows how to extract in a listenable format from the game itself.

whats the difference between the regular and platinum?

Platinum is a two-disc set. Disc 1 is identical to the single-disc release that we were all downloading yesterday. Disc 2 has 53 more tracks. The gist of it is the tracks on Disc 1 are orchestrated, and the tracks on Disc 2 are synthesized. The exception is the last two tracks on Disc 1--Sweet, Sweet Galaxy and Toy Time Galaxy--which are synthesized but put on the orchestrated CD, probably because they're such recognizable tunes that people would want even if they only ordered the single disc version.

LOL yea i JUST found out theres a platinum edition... what is it just a bunch of sound effects? i mean, 53 tracks...

The regular Original Soundtrack contains just the tracks that were orchestrated by the Super Mario Galaxy Orchestra.

The Platinum edition contains the extra tracks from the game that were not done by the orchestra... basically, the snyth tracks.

Right I've listen to the completething and we are still missing one or two small tracks which aren't included in the OST or the disc extraction these are:
Lose a Life
Game Over
Bowser Shell Variation
Bowser Jr Encounter
Beach Bowl Underwater Shell
Get a Power Star
Get a Grand Star
Get The Final Grand Star

I'll include these all when I upload the Ultimate Mario Galaxy Soundtrack very soon.

I trust everything will be in the order it's heard in the game? Because I've already got Disc 2 downloaded and I was about to re-order all 81 tracks for myself but if your version with those missing tracks will already be in order, then I'll just hold off and wait for this ultimate soundtrack.

Also, this is sort of a nitpicky, non-essential track that I could live or without, but there's the Good Egg version of the 120-Star Epilogue.

Big difference between complaining and critiquing. "Complaining" is saying it sucks because it doesn't fit one's standards. It's a good soundtrack, but I would have preferred longer track times. You take what you can get though.

Hey, Peppydude... another question. You gonna stick with the track listings from the Japanese CDs? Because I actually have a preference toward altered track titles that more directly indicate what level, boss, etc. they belong to, but that's just me. It's nothing I couldn't figure out for myself later; just wondering.

Um, I have a complaint. The soundtrack was not made for my personal preferences, as if the Mario Galaxy Orchestra didn't know that I existed. Yes, I know the OST was made to fill up two discs, but I would have liked if it was two discs and a half. And by a half I mean actually a half disc, as in a disc cut in half. Also, the soundtrack does not have the Super Mario Land theme. I know it's not even in Super Mario Galaxy, but it should be in the soundtrack. Because it's supposed to mirror entirely my preferences, after all.

With that "complaint" aside, thank you to everyone for ripping this beautiful soundtrack!

Thanks to the booklet of this soundtrack we now know for which tracks Koji Kondo is responsible:

Disc 1:
03. Invasion! Koopa's Fleet (composed)
07. Egg Planet (composed & arranged)
08. Rosetta's Observatory 1 (composed & arranged)
13. Rosetta's Observatory 2 (composed & arranged)
18. Rosetta's Observatory 3 (composed & arranged)
27. Azure Athletic (composed)
28. Super Mario 2007 (composed)

Disc 2:
14. Ship Plant (composed)
19. Cosmos Athletic (composed)
22. Intermezzo (composed)
24. Fight to the Death at Koopa's Fortress (composed)
30. Rainbow Mario (composed)
35. Shadow Comet (composed)
53. Family (composed)

All other tracks were composed and arranged by Mahito Yokota.

So that means Mahito Yokota is a god, right?
Gusty Garden, Buoy Base, Bowser's battles are all from him? I say, wow!

Sorry to burst in, but I am on dial up, and I don't have the time really to download the RAR files. So, I'm wondering if someone could host the following files individually (I mean like, separately, not in a ZIP or RAR file)...

(Here, I will use the translation of each trackname Peppydude translated previously. I also have listed the track numbers so it will not be as confusing.)

2: Star Festival
6: Grand Star Rescue
7: Good Egg Galaxy
21: Bowser's Galaxy Reactor
26: Purple Coin Theme

Thanks in advance!

This OST, I have to say, is one of the best ever!

This is an awesome upload! However, I must ask ... which of the front cover images (included in the torrent) is the "official" one? Or is one for Disc 1, the other for Disc 2? Just curious.

The Recreator
01-26-2008, 04:16 AM
The goldish cover will probably remain in distribution longer (its CD is available to all Club Nintendo members who fork over enough points), while the platinum cover is for the more limited of the two, being only available to "Platinum" members of the club. Since the fist disc is the same between both versions, I would use whichever cover matches your collection the most.

I'd like to know this too; I assumed it was the grey one, but I'd like to know for sure for my collection!

Having said that, is it correct that Disc 2 and the last 2 tracks on Disc 1 are not actually by the Mario Galaxy Orchestra, but just Koji Kondo and Mahito Yokota with MIDI?

And would anybody happen to know what ''Koji Kondo'' and ''Mahito Yokota'' are in Japanese (hopefully from the booklet)?

Just asking for correct Japanese tagging.

Yes, it's true. The point of splitting it into two discs is that the entire first disc is orchestrated and the second disc is synthesized. The exception being the last two tracks on disc 1, which I believe are there just because the tunes are so recognizable, those who ordered the single-disc version (i.e. just disc 1) might still want those tracks.

Good-Looking Guy

Here (http://blog.livedoor.jp/himojii/archives/51260529.html) is a complete track list of the 2-disc edition. I made a translation. Any corrections are welcome.

01. Overture
02. Stardust Festival
03. Invasion! Koopa's Fleet
04. Catastrophe
05. Peach's castle is robbed
06. Into the Galaxy
07. Egg Planet
...
51. Star Baby
52. The Wish
53. Family

Can someone translate the tracknames with (???) correctly please?

In addition, how about we make these translations reflect things in the game? For example, "Egg Planet" should really be "Good Egg Galaxy" and anything saying Rosetta should really be Rosalina.

Please, a desperate request to anyone out there, can we get the Platinum disc two at 320kbs mp3s quality? Not that the version we have is bad, but we already have the first disc at 320, so for completion's sake, it would be extremely awesome if we could have the same done for the second disc.

Please, I wish I had the time or expertise for this myself, but help a girl out here please. ;-; I'd really love it if someone could do this for me. Thank you...

I'd like to know this too; I assumed it was the grey one, but I'd like to know for sure for my collection!

i'm not too sure aswell, bcz as i wrote in the description i got this from a torrent myself. I guess the darker one is the front cover, the lighter gray is the front of the booklet. reason to my believe is the original pictured here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Club-Nintendo-Super-Mario-Galaxy-Sound-Track-Platinum_W0QQitemZ160202720764QQihZ006QQcategoryZ6 2053QQcmdZViewItem

as you can see the sticker with the smaller star saying "x2 Platinum version" is on the front. although the color looks like that is lighter grey cover (image002.jpg), BUT then the back cover color would not match the front !

so i come to the conclusion that image001.jpg is the front cover and image015.jpg the back cover. image002.jpg is the front of the booklet.

the color of the front and back are either a.) way off (plus there's some ghosting, look at the big letters on the side and at the bottom) on the scan or b.) there's 2 different color schemes, the one in the upload and the other one from ebay.

i think it's a.) and the scan is not very accurate because the light of the scanner could not catch the platinum color of the cover correctly :)

but i'm sure Peppydude101 will be able to confirm which one is what as soon as he will receive his copy of the OST (and maybe even could upload some scans of his own ? ;) )

_Marth_

Okay, well, I've used the black one in iTunes now, and it looks pretty snazzy, so even if nobody can get true "platinum" scans, that's cool. Although I doubt any scanners would show the platinum effect anyway, so the best that could probably be done is a picture from a good camera (probably saved as PNG to save as much quality as possible). Also, I'd like to point out that Cosmic Mario has some cool effects whilst using iTunes' cover flow!
