and i saw a message that said "Your IP Address (135 blah blah blah) is being reported for fraudulent behavior" or whatever.

Everybody reads and leaves, because there's nothing to worry about, and they're too lazy to reply to tell you so.

Why is there nothing to worry about?
Even if this goes far into the legal system and proved not guilty (Thanks to me still having my bought CD's), People still look at you as being guilty and thus label you as a criminal despite you obviously being innocent (Ex. Finding jobs)

Well, Sarah, They said it would be "reported". I am aware every site gets your IP but most dont give a damn to report it to anyone unless thats their main goal.

So did alot of other websites I've downloaded from... and guess what... They did nothing!
Plus think about it... If they know the file is illegal, why don't they just delete it? Are they not committing a crime too by holding on to it with their server?

Under certain laws, that site is basically held responsible for the stuff that is uploaded onto their site. They're basically complying with the law where they need to comply with removing or dealing with (in the case, you) the person that is committing the 'infringement.' Unfortunately, these are the copyright laws that annoy the heck out of people. I've noticed that Megaupload is being stupid with people's links, saying that the "link is not on, due to violated terms of service."
It seems that more and more sites are starting to crack down on people. Well, just for a quick reference here's a link to my site. You can check it out:
www.angelfire.com/goth/yohasakura
I keep a lot of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts stuff on there that I have from my CD's and all, and well I update regularly.

I know they are just doing their job but alot of people do what I do. They cant report everyone who downloads something just because it has a CD title or whatever. I always back my files up on FileFactory.
I'm done with them. Im never downloading from them again. Sons a bitches...
btw nice site.

If that were truly the case, I'm fairly sure most of the people here would be flipping out about it on a regular basis. So either yours is an isolated case or it's something that they're starting to get a little heavier on (I read recently that the federal government was going to get a little more pungent about that, as far as copy-write violations go).
But you also need to think of this logically. How often do you hear people getting a lawsuit filed against them? I can think of only a few major ones. Statistics state that many people do download music illegally, but those are only statistics.
Secondly, they look primarily for big name record companies (Who are really the ones that complain a lot about this). I don't think anyone's going to give a damn about video game music (which is in general VERY hard to find cheap and legally).
Thirdly, It's more an automated message, it's not like they're personally sending you the message. A lot of sites like that do that nowadays if they find so much as a .mp3 in any file name.
I say don't worry about it unless they send you a cease and desist. Then I would start to worry a bit.

Did you ever consider that the message might've been stated in the context of doing something unacceptable as far as the site's own rules or terms of service are concerned? For example, you could be using a download manager to open multiple http sessions for the same file (usually called "accelerated download") or employing a firewall or browser that distorts the referrer information or something else along those lines. Just giving an alternative explanation here...

I never post here but I just had to say something to you.
Do you think File Factory knows you ripped the CD to transfer it to another computer? It's not like you told them in advance, is it? For all they know, you uploaded an illegal CD rip for other people to download.

I have a bunch of files in my FileFactory ACCOUNT. Yes, I'm registered so I have an overview and can re-post links or anything. I prefer if I know what I've uploaded, what got deleted etc.
Yet - I haven't got this message. The only thing which happened was files to get deleted because of the 1-week-since-last-download-term, but I knew this before I joined FileFactory.
In your case, it must've been bad luck. *shrug*

Let's assume the worst: you get sued for uploading your own Wind Waker CD and downloading it yourself. Do you have a WiFi connection or anyone else who uses your IP address in your house? The only thing that the IRAA can prove is that your IP address downloaded an illegal file. They can't say for certain that it was you, and can't check your computer because if you got sued, it would be a civil suit. In other words, since the criminal justice system recognizes the lack of foundation for music downloading cases, they don't prosecute anyone. The IRAA sues people, generally because they will settle. If you inform them that an IP address is not an individual and does not have legal standing, they probably won't take it any further; they literally are incapable of proving which computer the music is on if multiple ones are on the same network, and if there's a WiFi connection, the kid walking by outside with his PSP is probably downloading from your connection.
The point of my post: don't worry about it.

I use Badongo.com. I think it's much better than Megaupload, Ripway, and Rapidshare, too...
And XZero's right. It could even be a wardriver downloading from your account on there that you uploaded stuff on. Don't let it bug you. They're just being jerks. That's what the RICA is all about.
