I saw it last night. It is the best movie I have seen in a long, long time; in a theater or otherwise. It's exactly the type of movie I like though, and I could also see some people not liking the way it ended—but wow. A pretty intense movie with almost no music in it, as opposed to 1408, which I watched on DVD the night before and subsequently felt had far too much music in it when trying to establish the mood. It was shot excellently and the acting was spot on. My new favoUrite Coen brothers movie. anyname13579, you're right, you wouldn't like it.

tinyjeans, did you read the book before you watched the movie?
cause almost everything is just transferred from book to film flawlessly.
not a lot of people in the audience liked the ending when i watched it,
but i liked the ending more than any other movie i've seen this year.
no music was another good aspect of the movie.
you never usually see movies that are able to use the atmosphere to
build up tension and suspense (like you said about 1408 how there was music)

No, I've never read that or any other of his books. I've heard good things though, and since this movie was already almost released, I decided to just watch it first.
It appeared not many people liked the ending when I watched it either. In fact, most people were oddly quiet when the movie was over. I don't believe most liked it or understood it. Not that it is this mindfuck of a movie by any means, but I'm sure you know what I mean. No one really said anything bad aloud about it, they simply were eerily quiet. I do not remember people leaving a theater that quiet before. Not that that's such a bad thing for me, for these are the same people that flooded the theaters for those Pirates of the Caribbean movies. *shiver*
I loved the fact that there was very little music in it. I am probably going to see it again in a couple of days. I don't often do that.

hahaha yeah same here i'm planning to see it again sometime soon
well, what how did you interpret the ending?
i thought (while trying to be as spoiler-free as i can)
that it's an open-ended ending that shows that things like what happened
in the film don't just end, and most of the time they aren't in favor or the good guys.

There is a fair amount of symbolism in the story. It could also be said it is metaphorical. The interpretation of the ending is open to debate, as is the entire movie really. Some of what happeneds to some of the characters is metaphorical. The sotry in itself pretty much can be taken that way. It's a good movie when you leave the theater and are talking about it with people and taking your own slightly different interpretation of the material.
In the end, I feel it's pretty dark and pessimistic, but with a true message that is almost hopeful.
I saw this movie today, and I was really blown away. Like tinyjeans said, it's a movie that's really open to interpretation. The only problem I had was that with so many dead people, you'd think the FBI would be on the case, and that they wouldn't have left the case up to a local sheriff. Other than that, I loved the realism of the movie (ie lack of background music and the encounters), and the interpretive ending. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying too much attention to what was being said at the end, so I missed out a little bit.

Not at all. Every movie released always comes here.
There's been reports of this elsewhere, it wasn't actually a "wide release" in any way. Makes no sense considering how well reviewed it's been.

That blows. I live near Detroit and it's not available at a lot of theaters as well. It's odd, like you said, considering how well it's been received, at least by critics. It's too bad cos it's a really good movie.
