Ok, I started playing Kingdom Hearts. I beat it after a few weeks. I never thought it would have been good, mainly because of the Disney characters. I loved it! But now I want to buy Kingdom Hearts 2... Do I need to buy Chain of Memories before I play Kingdom Hearts 2? Or after? Or do I need it at all, like does it give some valuable info about the story line?

I also heard it was card based. Is it like Yu-gi-oh? I hate Yu-gi-oh. >.<

One more thing... It's for the GBA right? I saw some things about the DS and PSP. It got me confused.

Although KHII stupidly takes place after COM, you don't really need it to understand KHII, remember Sora forget everything that happenes in COM, so it's like it never happened, and go to the threads refering to the new KH games on the way for the ones comming out on the PSP and the DS.

So he just forgets everything? That's kinda stupid, but atleast I don't need it to play Kingdom Hearts 2! Thanks for the help!

Time to go to Game Stop.

CoM is rather essential. I played it and I still got confused during the intro of II. I cannot imagine trying to muddle through that without having played CoM.

Also, I quite enjoyed it. I'm not sure if it plays like a Yu-Gi-Oh video game because I've never played one. I thought it was rather innovative and I quite liked the gameplay. Yes, you are shuffling cards constantly, but you are still actually fighting. It is just that every move is dependent on what card is at the "top" of your deck at any moment. You can string together combos to execute the special moves from the original game, to boot.

That's interesting Kneg, I did not need COM at all to understand KHII.

It doesn't help MUCH, but not having played it all would have been INSANE, I'm assuming.

I played CoM after beating Kingdom Hearts II. I wanted to see if was any different from the original kingdom hearts and what the battle system was like.

Well, I'm not sure how Yu-Gi-Oh is played, but the cards are used to either open doors, summon, or do battle. The cards are used to determine your attacks in battle during battle mode. And the battles are active realtime battles.

My answer is: Not everyone has the same tastes. Rent the game for a week or get the ROM, then if you like it, buy it.

supposedly Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ will have CoM as a 3D mini game, but idk when or if it will come out in the US

It probably won't come out in the US or Europe. The CoM remake has no appeal to me though, as it still features the ridiculous and frustrating card system that made me hate the game so much in the first place.

@ OP, I'd recommend you pick the game up, because you'll understand more of KH2. Or you can do like me, and read the script off of gamefaqs.

I'd still like to play the original KH Final Mix, I just haven't had the money or the nerve to order a Japanese PS2, or have my current system modded.

The question is "Do I need that?"
Well, I think it's a good game if you are on tour and there is no playstation ;)

It's not needed but a highly recommended KH game to have a better understanding of KHII (like why things are the way they are) in the beginning. As for the card system; it's not at all like yugioh and after you get used to it, it'll be just like any other action game for the GBA. At least for me.

Or if you know Japanese, Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ has a remake of CoM called Re-Chain of Memories that utilizes the card system, but the game is in complete 3-D and uses the same graphics as KHI. You can find torrents on the net if you don't want the authentic version of the game.

Please read a thread that's more than a year old before reviving it to post what other members have said.

It'll do the body good.
