I just did it. Now I can strike this off my checklist. I'll be doing White Mages some time soon.
Boy, Black Belts were so much easier than Thieves. They took out Chaos in 4 turns; it took the Thieves somewhere around 15, and they were Ninjas at that point.

Nice job, I was going to try to beat FF I with only white mages but never started because I thought it would just take to long.

If it can be done with bloody Thieves, then White Mages, who can make themselves all but invincible, shouldn't be that difficult. Granted, about the only "challenge" runs I've ever done for a FF was a Ramza-only FFT run and a FFVI natural magic run. Not that they were difficult or anything.
The most difficult party I've ever tried was: 2 White Mages and 2 Thiefs.
That was not easy. :(

Ah, but the versatility! You can cast healing magic AND run away from things! And then after class change, it's pretty damn easy with that party. All thieves was one hell of a bitch getting to class change because they did 1 damage on all non-critical hits against bosses. With characters weak enough to be totally eradicated in about 6 turns, you want to do more than 24 damage in that time period.
All white mages will be very time consuming because leveling up will go very slowly, but then, thieves had almost as bad of a physical attack anyway. And then, when I get class changes, I can level up enough to use Fade, and then it'll be easy for the rest of the game.

All Red Mages are pretty easy. I tried that before.
