Terra: "People only seem to want power. Do they really want to be like me? I...I wanted to learn so much more from you..."

So, when it was revealed that Emperor Gestahl's "ending the war" in FFVI was a trick, what was your reaction? Surprised? Disappointed? Expected? Personally, I think I recall being at least a bit surprised, I think I sort of bought into it. I guess in the end, it was too good to be true. This game already had two, I suppose three (if you count Shadow) characters working for the "enemy" that turned out to be on your side, and one of them is referenced above.

Completely expected. I remember waiting for him to try to slit our throats at the banquet.

Apparently, I have no faith in people

I was a bit confused by the trickery on the first run through the game (that part of the dialog on the SNES version was a bit confusing when I first played it), but all in all I was expecting it.

I expected it. I never expected Kefka to be behind it though :)

It did seem a little too good to be true. Gestahl was always a vicious character, and I never thought that a little thing like poisoning an entire castle would phaze him. The banquet was extremely awkward, and I never trusted him.

Suprising? IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE!
One thing I really anticipated was the death of General Leo.
You couldn't Change his name so yeah whatever, hes gonna die first.
Nightmares about Kefka?

I wasn't surprised that the empire had ulterior motives, but it was shocking to see Kefka kill so many espers as well as General Leo so suddenly. Part of why FFVI is so good is because a main character dies rather abruptly, without forshadowing up the wazoo (*cough* FFVII *cough*). And the writers weren't afraid to make the player sad; all those espers that you just met just die right there.

I figured the betrayal would come in the form of some sort of ambush/capture thing whilst eating, or perhaps a poisoning of the food as opposed to what wound up happening. When it finally did happen, though, my reaction was quite similar to a certain plastic herbivore: "Argh! Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal!!"

I did not know what to think at first but i wasn't to shocked when he turned out to be using the returners.
But it was totally cool seeing Kefka beat up those poor Espers, never stood a chance poor things.

Considering earlier in the game there had been a cutscene demonstrating what a ruthless bastard he is, I wasn't really surprised.

I knew he was bluffing. That is a really cool part of the story though.

Does anyone else think emperor Gestahl looks like that dog form lady and the tramp?

Nope, but I always thought he looked like a dog of sorts... Like those sleeve dogs in "Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat". Pekingese perhaps?

I wasn't really surprised, I had figured that something dire was underway either by Gestahl or Kefka.

As well you shouldn't.

For the answer to the Emporer question, I felt quite bad for him...as my party was completely unstoppable.

EXPECTED!

It was pretty much a classic situation. I was thinking, the first time I played, "Any moment now, the emporer's soldiers, who look like giant walking beavers if you don't pay full attention to them, are going to come and murder us all."

completely expected. i was hoping it would've been a little later than it was. completely earn everyone's trust before backstabbing them. i guess that's just my opinion though.

who do you think is wose: emperor gestahl or kefka?

100 percent, with no doubt Kefka. But then again, if you asked that question with kefka being involved, Kefka would always win, hands down.

But anyway, Gestahl lusted for power (cliche) but Kefka was just plain 100 percent evil. Gestahl just wanted to rule, Kefka wanted every shread of hope and love banished form the world, even if it meant eradicating the world to acheive his goals.

And he poisoned an entire kingdom...

Anyway, this should be a thread, but I won't steal that right from you. You should make this a thread.

yeah. i was thinking the same thing, but one of my friends kept saying gestahl was. pssht. another random question: who's worse, sephiroth or kefka. i honestly think they're about the same: evil murderous people who are obsessed with their world-ending goals.

Kefka had "THE LAUGH" though, lol.

i love kefka's evil laugh. it's so lame and corny.

I know, but it is also creepy and sinister in it's own way. Can you imagine a port of Final Fantasy VI with voice acting now... Kefka's laugh would be damn evil. Which reminds me, if they DO make one, if Kefka's laugh isn't in there, I will boycott buying it. Okay, maybe I WILL play it, but I won't enjoy it, lol.
