Hi, im a newbie here! Nice to meet all of you here! Final Fantasy has always been my favourite game so I did quite a number of fanarts on FF. Encouragements , Comments and Critique are welcome! This are my motivation to do better art.
Here goes. All thumbnails is enlargable upon clicking.
Alternatively, you can visit my deviantart account

I have more images stock up there!

This guy is the latest main character from Final Fantasy Versus XIII. He is my current obsession so it is likely im gonna do many fanart on him

She is a fusion of both Tifa and Rinoa. I hope she look pretty in your eyes

I think your Cloud one came out th best. The anatomy is the best, as well is the use of colors. I think he looks a little awkward against that background color, though. I'd recommend something different, or else not make the edges looks so crisp and pasted-on. It looks like you made the background and the subject two entirely separate images, instead of two layers. The separate image thing only really works with two-dimensional cartoon styles.
But still, good pictures.

They are nicely copied from the original CG work from Square-Enix.
So what's this then? Angel Sweetie Prt 2?
Hynad
10-19-2007, 05:09 PM
Nah, Angel-Sweetie took the artwork files of someone else on an other website and posted it here pretending it was hers.
This guy here just drew these by watching at an existing version of them. At least he have the merit to have done them, even if he copied them.

They're copied? That's a shame. Oh well, at least they're not outright stolen. Copying isn't my thing, but it's a good way to learn.

I did lots of copying before I was able to develop my own style. It's a good way of learning, if you allow yourself to improvise a bit.

Indeed it is.
That's why all art student's go through a lot of observation works.
It helps you improve your visualisation and with practice and hard work, you can then understand how the things you draw work so you can finally draw almost anything just by thinking about the subject.

I have to say that this artwork that I did are not copy or copied. I feel hurt if you say that cos i drawn all of this painstakingly. All of them took me more or less one month before i settle for this. You can see the earlier version of the art at my deviant account. I edit countless of time before the art become like this.

I happen to have the pics you took to make those (the FFXIII and the Cloud ones). So either you admit you copied them, or I post the files right here.
Epsilon86

I only admit i took reference on them. It is not plain copy. this is two different thing. Feel free to post the pic here if you want.

Is it really that big of a deal if he did recreate an already created image? Most fan art is just that. I think they're well done, and while what you said Hynad might have meant well, it had a very condescending tone to it.
I really don't see the issue. Judging by what this guy has done, I'm sure he could come up with his own original works no problem, but maybe he liked the look of the other characters and artwork he saw, so he did them on his own.

Pretty true Cassie! I like the characters of Final Fantasy that why i did fanart on them.
I dont deny the fact that i use reference to do my art. I use thoes reference to study the look of the character and their clothing. But I always want to do something different. The other reasons why i did fanart is becos im trying to learn drawing and colouring at the same time. It is to train myself to draw better. My ultimate goal of cos is to create original art.
This is another Cloud Drawing that i did. I plan to draw a new clothing for him. I will keep on editing it till he look better.

wow nice anatomy =D maybe I should learn from you x3
but u know..
maybe u should balance the colours on vs XIII a little bit... it's really annoying to see his face so unbalanced with BG and his body's CLR <3
but I like cloud's....
it's better XD

Hi Haseox.
Im glad you find my art character have nice anatomy. I do lot of trial and error before i achieve this. Lot of editing.
Basically all art that i post here are incomplete, all are work in progress. I usually do this in interval. Learn drawing of other stuffs before I went back to do this. I usually do it when i think i have some improvement. So it is a done with little editing over a long time. And the final one usually look a whole lot different when i first start it.
The first art that i did was Cloud. Done in March. Tifa/Rinoa was drawn in may becos i want to do a couple art. So my final idea is to Draw Tifa with Cloud in the final picture.
The FF versus XIII was done in May. I recently pick up to edit it in September. But i kind of lose interest in him becos i couldnt draw him the way i want him to be. This is due to my lack of skill in the level i want to achieve. So i plan to redo him again. I will draw Lighting of FFXIII too when i sort of settle this guy. I plan to draw him beside Lighting.
Im not good enough to be teaching other since im learning things myself. I do lot of self study. I buy artbook, go library and borrow books. Go online to read art tutorial. Read lot of magazine to see how people pose, how light fall on their hair and shadowing. If you want to draw better, you need to expose yourself to many art depending on which field you want to achieve. If you like anime style, go read more manga/ artbook. Realism style, go read more magazines.
All the best to you! I hope both of us can improve in drawing as time goes.

fair enough, but your first post in this thread came across as really snide. and i dont know about the ff13 one, but the Cloud picture is front on. Of course there is going to be an actual image from square with Cloud front on.

Not exactly an update. This is some old art that i did.
First one is From Kingdom heart II. You can guess this character. Im sure it is not going to be too difficult base on the clothing.

(

)
The last one is FF XIII versus work in progress pic. Just a big head shot so you can see his face more clearly.

(

)
That's it. I will not be working on FF fanart for some time cos i will do D.gray man fanart now.

Hi, hotmustardgas20. Thanks for commenting. I know most of the guy character that i draw look abit like woman. You are not the first one who say that. I use to draw girls only. So now when i draw guy, i have difficulty drawing them manly. I know i need to improve on this. And im working on it. Thanks!
And 712 hobbit, Thanks for your comment!

The androgyny plague.
If you want an advice to help you figure out how to draw males that look like males, you should try drawing broader jaws. And maybe put some muscles that don't look like those of a girl who's been working out.
But if your thing is working from random Square-Enix arts, then it is completely understandable that your characters will all look the same and girlish.

I really do like your CG stuff if you did that cause I LOVE CG!!! Not all CG movies are good but yeah I hope i didn't sound like a douche. I just wanted help you out. But like Hynad said guys in Square-Enix games look like chicks. Don't get me wrong I have mad love for FF 7 and 12 but the dudes look like chicks

An update. I Decide to redraw the main character of the Final Fantasy Versus XIII. But im still in the process of doing it. I still need to draw his hair, nose and mouth and do more shading. Enjoy this teaser pic!

It's interesting to see how the work in the upper torso doesn't match a bit the work from the lower parts.
Oh... and the crest on Cloud's shoulder pretty much gives away your... "technique".
Epsilon86
01-22-2008, 06:13 PM
I have to admit that the crest was not drawn by me. I dont feel like drawing something so detail but without the crest, this drawing seem incomplete so i just put it in. Beside the crest, the rest is done by me. I remove the crest this time....Really sorry if people get offended by this....
Regarding the upper body doesnt match the lower body....i think it is becos i drew this part by part. The drawing just get extended when i finish some part. And this is my first time drawing and colouring a full lenght posture so it is still not very good. Basically i draw to learn.
And this is the Final Fantasy Versus XIII Fanart. Still incomplete. Im still editing his face cos i find him not vicious enough.

A lot of this work isn't even done by hand. I don't know who you are trying to fool. But either you worked on top of an existing picture (using layer transparency), or (and) you aplied a texture for your FF XII character's jacket.
That is hardly what I would call art.
But whatever floats your boat.
Epsilon86
01-23-2008, 02:16 AM
This is digital art not traditional art. I used 26 layers for the Final Fantasy Versus XIII fanart. Of which 7 are layers for texture, basically for his skin and leather clothes cos i want it to look more real. I receive comment that the skin look too porcelain so this time i put a layer for it.

Im taking a break from doing realism art. I decide to do more sketches instead. So this is the latest ff related artwork that i did. Featuring Lightning and Versus XIII main character. I give a totally new design outfit for him cos i have no idea how his clothing suppose to look like and i hear that Tetsuya Normura stated that his outfit is subjected to change so i might as well do something new for him. As for Lightning, i change a outfit a little to suit my own taste. Sketches done in my own style so they look different from the official images.

I consider your pictures art
HellDeath25
02-18-2008, 07:46 AM
If you tighten up the edges of your cast shadows and lose the flat edges of your outlines you might get a decent realism going on but right now you're suffering from poor cg skills. Keep at it.

Thanks Hotmustardgas20, your word are comforting!!
Hi Helldeath25, i will try hard to improve. Im currently taking art lesson and learn from the basic. Currently doing perspective drawing and how to do shading and stuff like that. I hope i can draw better sketches so i can use them to create better cg art.
This are some sketches that i did recently. I plan to cg one of them
All of the sketches are Final Fantasy Versus XIII or 13 related. My current obsession.

03-02-2008, 04:43 AM
Very nice sketches! ^.^ You're getting a bit of a clone face that you want to move away from, and your proportions need some attention (although that could be style choice too), but I do see improvement. I can't wait to see which one you cg.

Thanks Helldeath25 and H8472!!
I always has the clone face. Im too used to drawing in that way. So almost all characters that i drawn are kind of similar. So i work very hard on their hair and clothing to make it look different.
This time I did a realism artwork. Lavi of Dgray man. A photo reference is used. Here goes. I kind of like his gentle smile. I have not really complete the drawing due to my faulty computer. Just thought of collecting some comments for improvement before i start on it again.

The lighting on his bottom lip is wrong on the right side of it. It makes his mouth look all distorted.

Thanks Hynad for pointing that out. I will try to adjust and edit it.
And thanks Belle for your encouragement and comment. Im glad that you believe in the hard work that i put in to creating my artwork. I spend countless hours drawing and editing to my satisfaction. All the artwork that i post here, i will edit them when im better skills. I just want them to look better.

Thanks vonameda!! I will try to put in more effort in drawing the bodies and clothes.
I actually want to do more final fantasy fanart. But i think my art are getting repetitive, so i try to do more anime and manga fanart instead to get more variety. Let's start with Death Note semi realism fanart. Im still working on this and L.

You are quite awesome with faces. I love the faces.
But they're a bit too similar as HellDeath25 has suggested. You're taking lessons which is awesome and the best advice anyone could give so I'm hoping to see something more expressive in the future.
Good work, keep practising.

I love drawing faces and i spend most of time learning how to draw faces.
This is my new attempt at drawing and coloring Cloud. I try to draw Cloud looking young and cute! And i design a new outfit for him. A casual one.
My next attempt are gonna be Zack.

Hi,
back with some new art!!
This is the edited version of Cloud with him looking more punk...

And the second one is my latest artwork. Im more confident with doing hair and skin tone.. So my challenge is to improve on the clothes. I do this art with references cos still not confident with the folding and shading of the clothes. I add in some element of red to make the drawing more interesting....

Also... I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you have a talent to make all those characters look like gays.

Epsilon86
10-15-2008, 03:52 AM
I would love to draw them with more expressions too. maybe the next art will feature crying....It will be interesting to draw the tears. As for laughing, im not too confident cos im extremely bad at drawing teeth. It will make my drawing very weird or ugly.... But i will still give it a try in the future.
I will be drawing more female characters.... Maybe Tifa or Rinoa. This are my 2 favourite female characters of Final Fantasy.
doomjockey
10-15-2008, 04:21 AM
Sweet. I could go for some Rinoa. I must be the only guy who would over Tifa. Anyway, good luck and keep challenging yourself.
Hynad

Not at all, I always preferred Rinoa and Garnet over Tifa.
