This is just a bit of a fun thread which I was gonna ask other people to help me with from time to time.

Basically in here you can post any question about FFVIII you can think of. I will do my utmost to answer it. I will update it every 48 hours and you can ask two questions each 48 hours.

Its just for a bit of fun so get those questions coming. I will answer any that appear before I log off today straight away.

QUESTION:

A lot of people find Selphie useless in battle, so I'd like to know just how strong she can be. What's the best way to maximize her strenght? How much damage can she do? How helpful is she in battle?

Pos

Answer Selphie Tilmett as a character has one of the lowest base strength stats. But her magic stat on the other hand is higher second only to Rinoa. But by junctioning the right magics to her Str Stat. (I use 100x Quakes personally) Then also having Ifrit Junctioned to her using his str x40% ability turns Selphie in to a fighting force matching Squalls at times. To give her that added power boost. Try junctioning Meltdown to her Stat atk if you have a GF that knows that ability junctioned to Selphie. This induces Vit-0 leaving it with no defense meaning Selphie does more damage with her attack once again.

What kind of hair product does Zell use to keep his hair like that?

It is a mix of products which include, The juice of a leaf from a grat, some of the grease that is used to cook the hot dogs (before its used of course, Hence Zells huge liking for hot dogs. There is more then the obvious reason) Normal hair gel of course and something taught to him by his mother when he was young. B y breaking open the thorn of a cactuar there is a substance in there similar to the thickness of Gum and it is also magic proof. He mixes all these together and needs only one application a week of this. And due to the magical properties of the cactuar thorn his hair also never gets affected by magics.

As this one has already been answered by someone, I will just give you a small bit of advice. Try not drawing or refining so many fire magics. Also see if all your characters have 100 if not for example 2 of your characters have less then 50 each and your third has 100 fires (as example) then exchange the 100 and give half to each and then you have one character with noone. Or if like myself you specfically use 3 people annd dont touoch the other 3 then just give the unwanted magics to them and you also have a free magic slot like that. But they are also still reachable if needed without having to refine them all again wasting items for no extra reason.

Let me know what you thought of it after you have played it through again. As I just finished playing it and Selphie was killing more then sqaull. One thing I forgot to add to that. That even then if you find she isnt powerful enough for you and you want a little bit more power. If you know what monsters you are going up against or the general element at least. Then just use elem Junction as well junction the element they are weak against and once again and extra power boost:)

If you go to the magic option under the main menu, scroll down to the particular magic you want removed, then press [square] (for PSX version) or [A] (for PC version), and it will ask you if you want to remove all of that particular spell. If you want to keep some of it before discarding it all, give some to an ally, and then exchange it back.

When you put the wrong names in you just get a sound which is used when things fail in FFVIII Such as when you attempt to devour someone and it doesnt work. Nothing more.

Is there any place you can get the music for the country jig that plays if you choose the four pieces of music that aren't from 'Eyes on Me' during Squall's concert?

It is possible to find it on the net but with a bit of searching. Or as agent so nicely offered you can get it from him. http://youtube.com/watch?v=f4KaO6qdUvc There is also a bit of it on there its the proper version as well. *edit* After watching it the song plays for about 5 minutes hope you enjoy *edit*

And in answer to Silfurabbits questions from prak. Squalls hair is cut by Rinoa that is one of the reasons he is so protective of her.

Edea uses "Always Ultra" Panty liners she prefers them to Tampons as she finds that after a while tampons begin to chafe her private areas.

And size of Esthar has never been measured so im unable too provide and answer to that question.

Trabia garden is not hard to find really given its on the map. The deep sea research centre is obviously going to be hard to find given what it hides. Centra is a continent so not exactly hard to find and the white seed ship is right by edeas house. They give you a big clue. "In an inlet" If you use the map there are only 2 proper inlets in centra.

Yes, early in the game, definitely. I've killed many bosses in one hit by junctioning 100 Tornados to Squall's attack stat and then giving him Str +40%.

Also, Gerogero and Abadon are bosses that happen to be undead, so a phoenix down, a life spell, an elixir in the case of gerogero, or the revive ability in the case of Abadon, will result in a one-hit-kill.

The gunblade is a melee weapon, you swing it, so it makes sense that it does more damage when Squall's stronger.

FF1WithAllThieves
10-26-2007, 06:17 AM
Two questions with very similar answers.

Irvine's gun is actually just a representation of his penis, and his physical strength has a great deal to do with how powerful THAT is.

Squall needs a big chocobo, of course, because he has a rather small penis. Seifer's is even smaller, JFTR, which is why he always makes fun of other guys. In reality, the only person in the game with a large penis is Kiros.

You can't really see it, but when he pulls the trigger, he jerks his arm forward imperceptibly, yet effectively enough to make the bullet go faster. You can't see it because they didn't animate it. It takes less than one frame of animation, cuz he's so fast like that. The stronger he is, the more effective his arm-jerking is, therefore the bullets get more power.

Mierna

As the afformentioned penis answer has already been given and Agent wasx waiting for an answer of me heres mine.

Squall suffers from an inferiority complex and so by having the biggest chocobo he feels less like a tiny little man and more like a leader. Had he have been given a small chocobo he would have felt like he was once again being belittled and made to feel inferior.

Yeah, the gunblade in FFVIII is actually modelled after a real weapon. I remember looking it up in a library once and coming across a brief description of it. The energy that's released when the trigger is pulled puts the extra force into it, making it a (probably) stronger weapon than a standard sword, assuming one knows how to use it well.

Props to you for finding a good link about it.

FF1WithAllThieves
10-30-2007, 02:01 PM
That is very silly. First of all, if you slash someone with a sword, you don't need to shoot a bullet through it for him to die. Second, if you have a machine gun, a sword that can increase it's strength by firing a bullet won't be much of a worry to you. The gunblade has no practical applications; it only works in a setting where you have to wait for an ATB guage to fill up and people can mysteriously survive being slashed with a sword or shot multiple times.

Where do Gunblades come from?

In the case of this game gunblades came from the ingenious minds of people from esthar. They were bored of just either shooting someone or hacking and slashing them to bits.

So they devised a way to do both in one move. But it was such a comlicated weapon that only certain people had the ability to master the art of the gunblade making them a very rare and sought after fighter. (Except of course in the case of Squall and Galbadia given that he went against them more times then I care to explain)

Here's my thought: Squall says that SeeDs must learn all kinds of things in case they must keep their identity hidden during missions and such. When Squall was forced to dance with Rinoa, he didn't want to, so he thought that if he danced badly, she'd ditch him. Alas, Squall sees that he has to actually dance in order to get out of this.

Why does the roman numeral clock in Ultimecia's tower say IIII instead of IV?

I think this:

When Square was deciding the whole art puzzle and the name of the painting, they needed a visible clue to help the player choose the words. That clue was that the Roman numerals' letters that were pointed to on the clock would be hidden somewhere in three of the painting names.

SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE ULTIMECIA'S CASTLE YET! (What's the spoiler tag for this!?)
The hands on the clock point to VII, IIII, and VI. Vividarium is represented by VIII, Intervigilium is represented by IIII, and Viator is represented by VI. Even if it showed IIII instead of IV, the title is appropriate: In the Garden Sleeps a Messenger.

Okay, I already asked Agent this yesterday but I wanted a second opinion:

I just got the PC edition of the game. Are there any patches I should apply before starting, especially if they pertain to use of Soundfonts and 3D images? I recall reading somewhere on this board that I need a patch to fix an NVidia bug (Edit: Thread 34498). Anything else? (gaming rig has two NVidia 7800GT video cards in SLI position and a Soundfont-enabled X-Fi audio card).

Also, anyone has any luck running it on Windows XP x64 edition?

I completely forgot about that. Thanks.

It's really because everybody else had a large enough penis not to want to overcompensate.
