I'm playing through FF7 for the second time and I'm trying to fully understand the story as best as I can so I can get the most from the game.

So far there is one bit I'm not quite sure I understand. When Sephiroth and Cloud go to fix the reactor at Nibel Reactor in Cloud's story at Kalm there is one bit of text that goes..

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Sephiroth
"Normal members of SOLDIER are humans that have been showered
with Mako."
"You're different from the others, but still human."
"But what are they? They've been exposed to a high degree of
Mako, far more than you."

(Cloud gets to his feet.)

Cloud
"...Is this some kind of monster?"

Sephiroth
"Exactly. And it's Hojo if Shinra that produced these monsters."
"Mutated living organisms produced by Mako energy. That's what
these monsters really are."

Cloud
"Normal members of SOLDIER? You mean you're different?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

How does Cloud conclude Sephiroth was talking about himself not being a normal member of soldier when, to me atleast, if you read the first part again,

--------------------------

Sephiroth
"Normal members of SOLDIER are humans that have been showered
with Mako."
"You're different from the others, but still human."
"But what are they? They've been exposed to a high degree of
Mako, far more than you."

---------------------------

It sounds as if Sephiroth is saying Cloud is different to normal members of Soldier, not that he himself is different.

I hope I've made what I'm trying to ask clear.

Oh and one final small question, what is the story behind the monsters being produced in the pods at the Nibel Reactor?

Thanks!

Congratulations on beginning to notice that the game was written without much regard for sense. Soon you'll be ready to move on and play games that are actually good.

The PC version has a lot less ambiguities than the PSOne verstion... Mainly because the PC version was a better translation. The PSOne version that most people play, was well translated in most spots, but many key points had what I would call translation glitches. (Take "This person are sick," while in the computer version are is replaced with "is.) Many were errors in conjugation, and others were errors in antecedant rule. (In English the antecedant of a pronoun is always the most recent applicable noun, while in Japanese the selection of an antecedant for a pronoun is more versitile.)

Simple typos, like "if" in the place of "of" or a word being slightly misspelled were also present...(Final Fantasy Tactics has all the same problems, but it's typos were even more atrocious.)But I must commend them, that they never got "their, there, and they're" mixed up. Mistranslated words and phrases were honest mistakes, rather than laziness. The depth of story telling in FFVII in terms of attention to detail resulted in areas of Language and Grammar that were just used in the scripts of previous Final Fantasy games.

In short translating FFVII was a very complcated procedure, and some things were just lost in translation.

Also... what Prak said. For one thing, if the story Cloud told in Kalm made too much sense, the story would have had less suspense because the player would have either been told more, or exposed to less. This was where I learned that story telling was a very big part of game balance.

Thats the worst reason to stop posting in forum, don't start crying because Prak is exposing your "Oh-so-perfect" FFVII for what it is.

Oh God, please stop the Prak worship. Just for the record, a lot of your posts can be considered as shitting up the forums, as you basically just repeat what he says whilst throwing in your own insult, which is usually in poor taste.

Bearing in mind your early posts here were just as retarded as Shibby's if not more, you should shut the heck up. Of course, even your early posts were preferable to this mindless sheep-like behaviour, so maybe you should revert to type.

lol, I totally missed this, I do not worship Prak at all, sorry if you think my posts shit up the forums, don't complain about 8 month old posts and be happy I'm not anything like I used to be, or I would be 1,000 times worse.

Exactly, it's common to leave out the subject of a J sentence if it's felt to be understood, resulting in much ambiguity. When translating form the Japanese it's always good to be able to speak to the original author to enquire: Who is it who "Goes to the Shop." or "Different from the others is."?
