there probably was a thread just like this...so close it down if it needs to.

well i chose ragnarok as a sword because i rather attack than use magic(too lazy to even go choose what magic to use)...and also you can learn ultima from the paladin shield even though you'd be missin out on morphing monsters into objects.

Here's my thought on what you should choose. Basically, I saw that you could have one character equip the most powerful weapon, or you could teach all the characters the most powerful spell. So, I chose the esper.

I got the sword, since well.. The esper has ultima but that's it... no real use into morphing all critters... and the sword is just more powerfull xD

I got the esper, because I wanted to learn the Ultima spell as quickly as possible, and it's also fun watching all the enemies getting morphed into items. I also found that the Illumina wasn't very good when copared to my Atma weapon and Gradeus, so I restarted my game and got the Esper.

Illumina's an awesome sword. I just have to have it, period. And the paladin shield teaches Ultima anyways, so the esper is pretty much useless.

yeah, as seen above... The Paladin shield teaches you Ultima... for the hardcore gamers that want everything, don't get the esper... but for the quicker gamers, take the magicite... Ultima is a handy spell, but then again, with Genji Glove and Offering on Terra, giving her the Atma Weapon and Illumina... and get her at a high level, Ill take 8 hits of 9999 any day over one spell that does it...

I must have Illumina. I heavily agree with Megalomania.

Well since You can get everything my way I chose the esper you can learn Ultima so you can use it at fanatics tower and then you cna go near the top of Kefkas Tower to find Doom who you have a slim chance to steal it from him but he doesnt always have it I find that he either has a Megaelixer or Ragnarok and then you just go to the coloseum and change it to Illumina cause well you could always get 2 Illumina blades hmm although ive tried it, it makes the game really easy:notgood: so I take the esper cause you cna have all espers and all final weapons without chosing the ragnarok at the store.

You know I never heard about stealing the Ragnarok. And if you could then you would have 2 Illuminas and youd have a character be invincible. So that is weird that they would give you 2.

Or... you could just get two Atma weapons (that's what I did)... that's 9999 x8 no matter what (well, as long as your HP is high, but my vit was so high that I could deal 9999 with atma even when my HP was at 7000!), and plus it's DMG, so enemy defenses don't do SQUAT!

As Esper-form off course, so that all your partymembers can learn Ultima (the most powerful magic in the game). But as you say you don't use magic that often than it's probably better to grab the sword. I wouldn't think of that last battle without my precious magic though...

I always get the Esper. The Sword really never has much Value to me anyway, I usually Level up, and most weapons can inflect 9999 anyway. And I never get the paladin shield, as I have better things to do. 255 battles is insane, I've only done it once, and its very boreing.

I have never gotten the sword, but I still think the esper would be better. I used Ultima alot, it was very helpful. I never used it in the last battle though. I got 4-6 of my people to lvl.99, that was boring, my game time was like 70 hours. I also had that thing where you hit 8 times, so the last guy was too easy.

Here's another thought that I had on the subject. Maybe it's just how I play the game, but it seems that once you discover that everyone can use magic, it seems to replace all the special abilities of the characters you have, so in any real important battle, the stronger magic is more valuable than the stronger weapon.

However, in you typical battle, the "Fight" option is my most common choice, but the standard attack that your characters can inflict is generally sufficent.

Hence, I would definately pick to take the esper.

I too chose the Esper everytime I've played through the game. Just fits my style more. I like magic, and as stated Atma weapon rocks enough.

I got it as a esper because I like to get all the magic and I do
not need it weapon because I think the Atma weapon is good for me

I chose esper. Ultima is worth of it. Atma weapon is good enough for me. *I may regret this later... I haven't even beat the game yet* But is just about days anymore :D

I gave the Atmaweapon to Celes and Rangorak to Terra and had a kick-ass team who could mow down any enemy. (The others helped of course, lol) Nuff said.

New members: rule followers, or thread necromancers?

The latter needs to stop already. Honestly, is it some kind of unwritten rule that states all new posters must ignore all relevant and current threads and revive ones that are older than most of the mods have even been around??

Lol. one of my first posts was in a 3 year old thread correcting someone's spelling who'd corrected someone else's grammar.... it was on the first page however and I hadn't noticed it was that old....

Closing~

Let's try to stick with threads on the first page of given forums, please. If the comment is relevant enough and the thread isn't obscenely old, then I'll let 'em live, but I don't really think either criteria is met here.

If you want to make a new thread about it, you're totally welcome to. Welcome to Shrine, though ^____^
