I actually listened to a little bit of this music, and I have to say that in comparison to Twilight Princess, the score for Phantom Hourglass falls a little short. It's a continuation of the style and tone set by Wind Waker, which isn't bad by any means; after all the game itself DOES contain the same cel-shading artistic palette. The problem is that it comes after one of the most mature and arguably most expansive of the Zelda scores, and so its no surprise that it feels a bit like a step backward. Having said that, I didn't have any problem with the compositions that I heard thus far, and so I will give this soundtrack the benefit of the doubt.
I'd be happier, though, if Nintendo just got off their lazy arses and put out that Twilight Princess OST. It's way overdue, now. C'mon, Nintendo, please?

yeah but whaddya expect? it's a DS game. there's only so much they can fiddle around with on such a small cart.
i loved the Hyrule Field theme in Twilight but the rest of the soundtrack wasn't very memorable. i was disappointed with the Kakiriko village theme. not to mention that most of it was remixed MIDI music from Ocarina and not original orchestra like the preview/demo music.

Well said. Twilight Princess is just a different style from Wind Waker and Minish Cap, the main titles Phantom Hourglass should be compared to most. They probably could've done better, but as already said, there is only so much they can do with a little DS cartridge.
BTW, after downloading around 20-60 Mb, my connection to megaupload.com gets reset and I can never download anything bigger than this. Anyone else having/had this problem?

Um, who compares a GCN/Wii game with a DS game in aspect of music? You really REALLY can't compare the two. Both games have excellent soundtracks.

Wow, for a DS game, this soundtrack ain't halfbad! I must agree with rytango, besides Hyrule Field, Twilight Princess's soundtrack wasn't all that memorable.
Anyways, thanks for this. The game sounds great and looks great. Can't wait 'till October 1st!

I disagree strongly. The Twilight Princess soundtrack was one of the finest Zelda scores around, with somewhat more subtle but no less effective compositions. Also, not all that memorable? I'm sorry, but I've found myself humming Ilia, Midna, and all the other themes from the game. So it certainly is not a bad soundtrack at all.
Phantom Hourglass, on the other hand, I cannot judge, as I haven't heard enough of it, but I'm holding off on passing judgment. It probably may be a good score, but I'll still probably be disappointed with it, simply because its no Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time.

i think i was disappointed in the Twilight Princess score because much of it relies on the brilliant Ocarina of Time score. many professional reviewers also agree the one factor that hampers TP is it's music. is it nostalgia or is it pure laziness?
i was also disappointed that they didn't use real orchestra like the one they used in the promo trailer. i think that was the singular piece of music that stood out from the rest. it would have been a great change from midi and would have went with TP's epic scale, but why tease us with it in the first place?
because it 'wouldn't have been Zelda'? i'm a fan of midi and all, which is why i'd say Zelda:LTTP had the best soundtrack, it fit perfectly with the visuals. but switching to orchestra in TP could've radically beefed the game IMO.

Awww... It's like Wind Waker? That's like my least favorite Zelda OST. There are only 2 or so tracks on there I actually like. And if it's like WW, let's not compare it to Minish Cap, because it sounds nothing like WW and is one of my favorite Zelda OSTs. Oh well, I'll download it anyway, maybe I'll like it.

Hmm... really? I absolutely loved Wind Waker's OST. Then again, I've loved all of the scores since Ocarina of Time; there were even some gems in the spin offs (in Four Swords Adventures, see Lake Hylia and Credits, in The Minish Cap, see Hyrule Town and Sky Tops). To the uploader: inexplicable thanks from Latios. Yet another excellent addition to my collection.

Screw professional reviewers. I say it's nostalgia. And considering that that's what Twilight Princess was, I'd say it fits.

yes, screw those reviewers. it's not like their opinions matter at all! seriously tho, if you like the music, that's cool, it's your opinion. i was expecting more out of TP like the epic orchestra piece, rather than midi remixes. hell, even orchestrated remixes would've been interesting to play the game with. but again, that is just my opinion. =)

Okay, I'll admit, there are a few tunes in Twilight Princess I liked and got stuck in my head. But I'm kinda with rytango. They have that sexy orchestrated trailer, then the whole game is MIDs, and they're all remakes of past songs. Not necessarily a bad thing, just kinda......ya know. The few tracks that were original were a little too repetative.
Oh well, at least Malo Mart is catchy! That tune may never leave my head.

Phantom Hourglass IS the sequel to Wind Waker so I do believe there would be some strong similarities in the music, you know? It's just a common logic thing to expect.
Thanks man...I wish Nintendo would release a soundtrack for all of the Zelda games they didn't.
It's unfortunate that all the songs are amazingly short, but I know nothing of ripping so it was probably unavoidable.
I'll admit the soundtracks of WW and PH don't stand up so well on their own, but when in the game I have to say that they are perfect for the mood and look of the game. :)
Gosh I love the OoT and TP soundtracks, but I'd have to say Minish Cap and Link to the Past are my favorites.

I don't think the Wind Waker album is bad....but, its just kind of bare. A lot fo tracks are event songs consisting of a few string picks and a flute (tracks such as "Tetra falls out of the sky).

Totally agree - however, I still walk around whistling "Saria's Song" from OoT and hum "Outset Island" so I think WW definitely has some memorable songs.

I like how this is a thread for the Phantom Hourglass gamerip, and we're all talking about nothing but Twilight Princess.
Twilight Princess has a great soundtrack in terms of composition; the only problem in my opinion is the use of MIDI, which just ruins it for me. In many cases, it makes the music seems so static and emotionless. That being said, I'd prefer they release an orchestral arrangement soundtrack in the style of Hyrule Orchestra (a strings orchestra arrangement album for Ocarina of Time, in case there's anyone who doesn't know) rather than the actual game music. (Although with a full orchestra, not just strings.)

i've already started playing The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, halfway through it but, but i gotta disagree with one case only.
the soundtrack to this title in retrospect is merely well orchestrated, and i don't mean the same "well" as you'd get in the Wind Waker. the Wind Waker in my mind was orchestrated differently than the score Phantom Hourglass, even though some say Phantom Hourglass's score is just a copy of the Wind Waker's.
i don't think it is a copy though as some of the tracks from that score are new orchestrations. it's a pity though it never sounded as orchestrated as i'd had hoped.

I'd say the score is more evocative of WW than derivative. I'm enjoying it more and more the longer I listen to it.
Now...Nintendo just needs to get off their asses and release a "Sound & Drama" type compilation of all the modern Zelda music.
