Ebay. You have to look at the feedback of the person you're buying from. Me, I never buy anything from someone who's not a power seller.

If you want the PC version, I believe EA has released VII and VIII as part of the EA Classics pack. You get no warranty, but it's way cheaper. Look around for it.

One site I know that sells it: http://www.tsb.com.my/product.cfm?id=1015. These guys also distributes the games to shops over here.

If you're looking for the PSOne version, you have two choices.

Try eBay first (I've only had bad luck with one PS2 DVD on eBay, and luckily no loss incurred as eBay was quick to refund me. The other PS2 DVDs and GBA carts came in fine). Look for sellers with a feedback of 99% or higher. Also, always request that the package be shipped by priority mail and if possible, with tracking. I don't mind paying slightly more than I should if it means getting my games on time and with peace of mind.

But if you're willing to beat the DMCA into submission, http://www.romhustler.net, or hell, just torrent it. Takes a few days if you're on dial-up, but what the heck!

After having my original version stolen, I found the PSX version a couple years ago on the clearance rack at a Best Buy. That's not going to happen anymore, I think. You should probably either torrent it or Ebay it. There's always someone selling a copy of FFVIII or VII.

The PC prices on Ebay are fucking outrages. If that's the one you want, torrent it as others have stated. If you're lucky (like me for example), you can find brand new FFVIII and FFVII for the PSOne for only $14.99USD each.

It plays on my PC on Windows XP, but I've yet to know of anyone here to say that they managed to get the PC version to work on Windows Vista. It's possible it could still work, but I've heard of people having problems with it on XP before, so I would think it's even less likely that it would work on Vista. So yeah, if you have Vista, I wouldn't go with the PC version.

I agree with Agent0042. In fact, I'd recommend getting the PSOne edition (legally or otherwise) and playing it on an emulator, since if you have Vista you're also likely to have a beefy enough PC.
The upshot of using the PSOne edition on an emulator is that there's a high stability rate and the sound would almost certainly be better than the PC counterpart running on a subpar soundcard (read: any soundcard without a uploadable MIDI wavetable system). The only downside is that you're not going to be able to play the Chocobo pocket minigame.

If you're gonna use the 'otherwise' method but on a real PSOne/PS2, make sure you either have a modded console or a bootdisc. The PS3 is out of the question for now, I've never heard of a PS3 modchip before.

I don't think they even have a mod chip for the PS3 yet. But if they managed to create one for the 360, then I'm sure they'll have one for the PS3 soon enough.

Well, let's hope they come out with a PS3 modchip soon. That's one of the reasons I'm avoiding a PS3 for now.

As for stopping your brother from breaking in, I'd suggest setting up a couple of padlocks on the door of your room and upping window grills on all the windows around your house. Yeah, that sounds really paranoid, but it's the only way. The only other way is to set up a good alarm system.

Or you can rig your room in case anyone tries to break in.

IDX Rider : Good idea. Rig the room - Home Alone style. Using an auto-igniting bunsen burner and some dental floss. Next time the little runt comes in to try steal something, his head will burn... literally! xD

I was literally thinking of Home Alone while writing that too! But for me, because I'm ultra protective of my stuff, I'd rig it with the many swords I have lying about (3 of which are battle ready that my brother bought me while overseas).

xD Yeah, swords may be a better idea. Since bunsen burners are a fire hazard.

In reality tho, all I do is lock my room. A long time ago, my dad quietly sold off my 21" World Multi System dual-stereo teletext-enabled flatscreen TV, and replaced it with a 25" World Multi featureless boob-tube piece of crap. I can see the good intentions, but I need teletext and stereo more than a bigger screen. Plus, I already tweaked the TV set's internals to overscan video. And another time my mom came into my room while I wasn't around and took my antique toy computer (well, I got it on my 7th birthday, and as I seldom get presents on my birthdays, that piece of toy has a strong nostalgia value to me) and let some visitors play with it, nearly breaking it. Lastly, this one time I had to go to the loo and I left my PC idle, and my sis snuck in, got on my PC and sent an IM to my cousin in Australia while I was trying to negotiate him into recording a show for me. I lost the deal thanks to her.

So yeah, I just lock my room now.

My room can't be locked unfortunately. One thing I do (because my mom one time threw away my Silent Hill 1 copy >_< and now I don't want her in my room at all) is put this "thing" in front of my door that keeps it shut. No one knows this, but they try to force it open by pushing on it hard and stuff. What they don't realize is that it can be easily pushed aside if you open the door gently.

I bought both VII and VIII for Playstation off of eBay and had no problems whatsoever, though that was a while back.

That wouldn't work for me. I had the doorknob on mine replaced with one with a lock.

Consider getting it replaced, and one with a doorknob that has an integrated lock. They should be pretty affordable. Also, when choosing a door, pick one that's a has a small gap around the doorway. If you pick one that's an exact fit, it's bound to get stuck.

whoa... Amazon still carries it?

Too bad they don't ship overseas tho.

EDIT: Too bad they can't ship to Malaysia. Singapore is ok. And the stupid thing is, Singapore is just some 400KM south of where I am. WTF?
