I'm just in te world of ruin and reached Moblitz with Celes and Sabin. After talking to Terra I have to fight Phunbaba.
I tried several times, but his blow fish-move is very deadly(it does 1000 hit, just above my maximum HP so it kills one of my characters). I have Celes use runic over and over again so she absorbs his magical attacks, and Sabin use BLitz-aurabolt. I don't have good magic with Celes. I use Phantom and Scraphim when needed. But because of his instant kill blowfish, I don't really have time to revive. Can somebody tell me the best tactic for him pleaz?

(edit: and does somebody know the best tactic for fighting that tentacle-boss in the world of ruin?)

Part of the reason could be the levels you are at. If you're at a low level, then go try to raise your levels before coming back. And learning some more spells would help too. Especially Cure 2 and Bio. Trust me, it works wonders. :)

Cast safe and shell..It works against his solar plexes move and any magic he might have. But also your level might be a touch too low, you should be at 2000+ HP. Thats what I was at, I always spent my time to teach everyone every magic at Triangle Island in Balance.

You should definitely have more than 1000 HP by the time you're at Phunbaba. Try leveling up at the island that Cyan is at with only 2 people in your party, that should level you up fast.

I also had some problems with Phunbaba. My advise is to leave Terra and Phunbaba alone for now and go and explore the other towns on the island. From there you'll meet up with Edger, Setzer and Cyan, so it's possible to take four characters into the battle with Phunbaba. But make sure you characters learn Bio and Poison, as Phunbaba is weak against that.

I've taken your advice Raiden, and am now searching for the other guys. When I came to that '4 tentacle-boss' after playing 1,5 hour without saving(there wasn't a savepoint on my way-maybe in Figaro Castle??)
I was beaten to crap by those tentacles. Damn, I was pissed!
I knew I was gonna fight him and had some walktrough/tactics with me because I remembered that boss was so strong from the last time I played FF6 on emulator a while ago. But that time I was able to save any second, so I had the possibility to try over and over again by loading quickly. Now, I have to battle those thousand enemy-battles again starting where my last savepoint was, Terra's place....I'ts not the first time in this game I have so incredible much trouble beating bosses, while I've never even run away from a battle, and I try to 'junction' my espers quite well qua learning the best magic and extra-bonusses. So, it gets me to think of it more and more that I'm such bad-playing FF6 and stuff.
I never had that feeling with the other FF's though (that's at the same time the reason for my other topic-"FF6 hardest FF?")....

Anywayz can someone give me reasonable hints and tactics for that "tentacle-creep"(whats his name anyway?)-for the clearness, it's when you first meet Edgar in the world of Ruin in Figaro Castle- Help me quick pleaz because my limit break is going berserk if someone like this happens again....
And I'm a lil' bit shamed too, to be honest....

Vanish + Doom works on most of the enemies that you'll come accross. The only ones that it won't help with are the undead enemies (then you use Life or X-Zone) and the ones you can't vanish.

As far as the tentacles, Have Celes either attack, or use magic. I think that Bolt 2 works best. Have Sabin either Fire Dance (this will heal one tentacle) or Aura Bolt. Have Edgar use the Drill.

i used suplex with sabin,i let celes use fire 2 or ice 2 when he uses blowfist keep healing sabin..
i just let celes die and keep using suplex...

on Phunbaba i used Sabin's fire dance and cast bio with Celes and if you can use shell and protect that should reduce his attack's strength.

on the tentacle guy the tentacles all are wak to different kinds of magic andyou must use the apprpiate spells accordigly(i dont know which is which sorry) and use Edgar's drill, and Celes's Rune to absorb the magic.

Hmm. To be honest, I forgot how I killed them. I supose you could isloate the one that absorbes Fire, and polish it off so Sabin can use Fire Dance. Does Sabin have Air Blade? It's a nice Wind attack and I don't think any of the tenticles absorbe Wind. Also, Chainsaw (Edger) is useful, so have him use it. However, after some time it may try to kill the enemy with an insatne death attack (Edger will wear a hokcey mask). If this happens, switch to another tool, as from then on chain saw will just try and use instane death. As for Celes, well I used her as a mage - I think...

That's really all I can say. When I fougt the tenticles, I killed them first time. Sorry I can't be of more help.

thanx, ehrm the scariest thing is that there isn't a savepoint in quite a while. Am I right? Or is there maybe one in the castle I didn't noticed...I prefer to have my game saved before that boss, seeying I do need a little luck, maybe neardeath-moves as you said, and it has to go smoothly. And no, I don't have AirBlade. But that pummel and using chainsaw instead of the drill may work out well...And that 'Fire-danc-tactic' I tried the first time, but I wasn't even able to kill the Fire-tentacle(I was constantly using Drill on it, Celes attacking it and Sabin use Aurabolt, but that's randomly selected on one of the tentacles I guess-, they keeped using 'seize' and quickly eliminated my party with it. It almost seemed something like a counter-reaction, so much they did it...

Well, like I said, it's been a while since I killed the monster. Are you sure you don't have Air Blade? When I got Air Blade, I went into my Blitz thing and found I had the previous one to Air Blade as well. I can only assume I didn't notice when I got it.

As for a save point, try saving before you enter the cave. I think there's also a save point in the cave if you look. I can't remember any save points before the boss.

Chain Saw usually does about 2000-3000 damage (assume it hurts the monster, rather than trying to do an instante kill). The Kirin Esper may also be useful. You may want to use him at the start of the battle, as it'll cast Regane (sp?) All on you're team. Othewise, sorry but I can't help. I totally forgot how i killed the monster.

I didn't think this boss was so hard, just very, very, very annoying (with him taking away your characters and stuff). However, I thought that Edgars Crossbow attack was very good here, since it hits all tentacles at the same time.
Another way of taking him down is to concentrate on attacking one tentacle at a time, because this thing gets much easier if on or two of his tentacles are gone.

Oh, and for the save spot: when you reach Figaro castle, you can always walk out and save on the world map. Afterwards you can go back inside and go get the creep.

Yeah, I've beaten it now. Quite easy though. I just made good preparations, taking the espers Shiva and Phantom. I killed the FIRE-tentacle first by slashing on it with everyone, Drill with Edgar, attack with Sabin and Celes use ICE2 over and over again.
After the first one it went just smoothly. I'm now at the place you found Setser in the inn, but I can't find that cave(with the airship) on that Island. I'm just walking rounds but it seems to be nowhere, can somebody say(don't say south/west and stuff because that always confuses me)-just left-down etc. pleaz, because I'm going to get crazy from that random encounter stuff here......*takes a few steps...PSHHHHHHHGHH!!! -damn!-*

This shouldn't be so hard at all. It's actually really close to the place where you found Setzer (sorry, forgot the name of the town).

If you leave this town, just take a few steps down, then a few steps to the left, then a few steps up and you should be near a little bleu/purple dot. That's Darylls tomb, where you can find yourself a nice new airship.

Like I said, it's really close to the town where you are, but I agree that Darylls tomb is quite hard to see on the world map.
