When i first played Megaman 3; still one of my favorite tracks to this day is the title song!!

The first game song I ever downloaded was Alundra.the wind that shook the Earth, but for me When I first started Playing FF8 I Really Started to like the music, the landing at dollet, force your way, Balamb Garden, never look back, are fantastic.

Final Fantasy IV [4] did it for me!...After Super Metroid! But now im currently hooked on the music for the Tomb Raider series...cant get enough of it!

The soundtrack that got me hooked to game music would most definitely be the soundtrack for MYST by Robyn Miller

I've always loved video game music since Super Mario Bros., but the day i acknowledged and realized that love, was when i burned my very first CD full of Super Smash Bros. Melee music, literally the first CD i ever burned. From then, i've been on a quest to download all the epic songs from my childhood games and the games i play now, plus worthy remixes. I have more video game songs than anime + movie ost + normal music COMBINED :3

I would have to say Fatal Fury simply because of Geese Howard's theme. After that, it became a ritual to listen to every fighting game soundtrack before i even busted out my first hadoken.

I'd probably have to say that it was Super Mario World/All of my Zelda games that hooked me on game music, and I was always like "Oh man, I wish I could find something to get this music with!" and, well here I am. Now my library is cluttered with game music, which is awkward when someone asks to see my iPod or something (especially a girl, haha :-D)

for me it would be classics from c64 like International Karate , The Last Ninja series :)

Probably Riven: The Sequel to Myst. It was the first soundtrack I'd ever heard in a videogame that was like "Wow... This is something I'd actually listen to outside of flipping switches and turning dials." Bought it in Sam Goody of all places. It might also have something to do with that game being the first (Along with Tomb Raider 1) I owned for PS1. My mom bought the PS1 specifically for Riven.

After the tenth time trying to complete Stage 1 from Castlevania Adventure, I started to listen to the music and got hooked on to game music, with FF7 reinforcing it.

Definitely Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis) for me.
After that game, video game soundtracks became important to me.

Almost every videogame I've played had at least one decent soundtrack that I enjoyed, It started with Final Fantasy but it was Guilty Gear on PSX that got me hooked for good.

I have been playing games since I was 1/2 and my brother got his first Sega Megadrive in 1992, and always like the games+music, but when I was about 13 i really wanted to play altered beast again, I did some research on the net and found out what emulators were.

I couldn't believe people had invented such things, I instantly downloaded Altered Beast and I guess as soon as I heard that Title Screen and First Level Soundtrack I started to really start listening to more and more VGM... and here I am today.

None -- Ever since I've played Video games (and for as long as I can remember becuase the first game I ever played was Sonic) I have loved the music to death! Game Music is one of my favourite Genres ever, It's very much like Classical and if it wasn't for video game music, I wouldn't be hooked on J-Pop ^_^

I'm sure it's been mentioned but Soule's OST to "Total Annihilation" was just the ticket that got me super hooked on that game. I'd also have to give a shout out to "Myth: The Fallen Lords" OST; simple, yet highly effective IMO.

Definately Final Fantasy IV, when my dad actually said "hey, thats not bad music" that caught my attention and ever since..

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Specifically the track from Tal Tal Heights. I don't know why, but it gets me every time...

Ys Books I & II for the TG-16. I played that game thru numerous times between 1990 and 1993. The music helped to set the mood for that awesome game and I still hear those tunes in my head today.

Without a doubt, it was One Winged Angel FFVII. No other Final Boss track has even come close to its 'lethal yet epic' feel of orchestra and chorus. I use it as a ringtone for my boss when he calls me. :)

Raystorm. Best menu theme ever.

Scratch that. Raystorm was the first game for which I actively searched to acquire the CD for. I made tapes of the music from Streets of Rage 2.

It's a tough choice, because I hardly remember some of the older games I used to play. lol.

However, I'd have to say Megaman X2. There were a lot of great tunes on the game..not to mention it was an amazing game. :)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, this game made me care about video game music, heck, I'm even downloading soundtracks of videogames that I haven't even played

To be fair, it was Final Fantasy 8's soundtrack that did it for me, but it wasn't until hearing the Chrono Cross soundtrack that I knew I HAD to have those songs on my iPod/computer/CD's, etc.

Lunacy / Torico (Thread 53969) was probably the first game that actually drew my attention to the music. The game has such a quiet atmosphere it's impossible not to get lost in the soundtrack.

I also regularly listened to my Sega Saturn music once I discovered some could be played through a normal CD player, especially Tomb Raider (the immortal Nathan McCree soundtrack) and Wipeout (Thread 53985), by Cold Storage. Memories...

I think it was Mega Man 2 that got me hooked to videogame music. The NES produced some really catchy tunes in it's day.

Gotta be streets of rage 2 banging techno soundtrack from then on i just liked various tunes from certain games also ridge racer 4 cracking soundtarck. Vagrant story Ifrit track slightly speeded up.Also legend of mana (Pain in the universe ). My personal favourite Tekken 3 soundtrack especiall ogre theme and paul phoenix theme! but i have many more but to list them would take to long

Hmm, tough one. I believe the first soundtracks that I actively listened to and really enjoyed were those of Final Fantasy VII - X. They were really the first that made me want to go out and find them to I could listen to all the songs whenever I wanted.

Ever since I heard the music of Castlevania III I've been in love with VG music, then I started downloading the music of the series in midi format and used to spend hours listening to the samples.
I think the first OST I managed to get my hands on was FF Tactics, I just can't remember exactly.

It was Stephane Picq's music for MegaRace that got me into videogame music. The unique sounds and rhythms he created for the music was and still is simply amazing.

For me, it was Sonic the Hedgehog 2's "Hill Top Zone."

For me it was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for mega drive, this was back when i was like 9 or 10, I particularly loved the music when you get the Invincible Stars box and Super Sonics music was so kick ass! I also found myself singing the tune of the Metropolis stage to myself every now and then lol

Heh, i got addicted after hearing "Song of Reqiuem" for Zelda:Ocarina of Time. I didn't notice it till i heard "You'll Never Be Alone No Matter Where You Go", "Resistance Line", and "Atomic Arms" from Wild Arms 2.

There are too many games with amazing music. The most special I think is Granado Espada.

Wolfenstein 3d - my brothers also played it alot and i did sometimes. i knew the songs so good that i singed them while i was sitting in my baby buggy - ouch.

Personally, Metroid and Contra really got me to actually notice and enjoy game music (not so easy when you're seven), but about year later, when I got my hands on Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2, it was a done deal.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest! Just hearing a rock influenced battle theme back then was just AWESOME!!!

Jet Set Radio and Chrono Cross. Been hooked ever since!

Tekken 3 it had it all but I noticed it sounded different than from the arcade it was then I realized that from up from Tekken to Tekken Tag there were arcade and remixed soundtracks. Then came the search and come to find out of even more remixes. Either way I loved the Tekken soundtracks in how they mix genres creating a different sound it's not techno but you can dance or fight to it yet you're hearing choirs and strings, hip hop and rock all in the same song.

Wild Arms The psone one. Into the wilderness is just so catchy.

Gaurdia Millenial Fair - Chrono Trigger.

Street Fighter 2!

i was hooked by castlevania, ratchet & clank, god of war,prince of persia;all 3 of them,& too many to mention.video game music is awesome! crash bandicoot, & sonic the hedgehog are among my favorites!

Tekken 3 and Tekken 5 OSTs
Whenever I played a FPS game eg: Counter-Strike or Doom. I'd play Jins Theme or a hard-core taiko drum song. It adds to the whole sense of ALERTNESS! and SUPRISE!

Quickman's stage (megaman 2). I love his stage and his music.

As far as purely listening to game music, I'd have to say it's Zelda game. I certainly loved OOT's music, but it was really Wind Waker that got me into game music - great tunes in that game.

Before that, it was mostly a matter of liking the game - such as the Mario Kart 64 music. Heh, I memorized the tune for Rainbow Road, Moo Moo farm, Koopa beach, and mario circuit, among others...

FF VII (PSone) for sure. No soundtrack before that was so catchy nor stirred so much emotion in me.

It was either Planescape Torment or Emperor: Battle for Dune. Both have such brilliantly done soundtracks that I've yet to see matched by recent games.

I guess it's Sonic that got me hooked on Game Music, since I first started recording sound test music onto audio cassettes shortly after getting my first Genises and Sonic 2.

One that I suggest is the Anarchy Online soundtrack. A future based MMO with a fantastic soundtrack.

Lots of ambient tones, so very good to play in the background if you're doing something else that has your attention.

That's way too hard to say for me. But I started listening to chip music when I first heard the "Commando" song by Rob Hubbard on the C64.
But I've always liked video game music in general.

Final Fantasy 7...

So, I had a friend who like FF like a lot. She played the Piano and was playing FF. I thought... Ohh~ wow I like that song, what is it? Then that's how I was introduce to "video game music."

It was liek meh intro to video game music. I played some games later on, thinking that all of them had good music it but yeah. <.<; When you play a game and the music is playing you can't help but notice the looping and after a while I kind hated some songs that I'd otherwise like outside of the game. But I guess, the music that I like from playing the game was Rez, Kingdom Hearts (so sad and happy I was like T___T), The World Ends with You, Okami (maybe I have this thing for Asian music? ._.; Or maybe video games is the only place I'm expose to it? I dunt know), Katamari and Jet Set Radio. DRR music is okeh to though I wasn't a huge fan of techno (even though jst is techno to xD). :O

I feel a bit like what? Why is the only music I like from squeenix? >.< I feel like such a fan. But, I haven't heard any good sound tracks anywhere else~ but at the same time I'm limiting my video game music tastes to games I play and games I like. That's is a BIG contributing factor.

Hmm...

I don't know about soundtrack, but as for the one track that got me into listening to video game OSTs... It's the BGM for the Birdman mode in Pilot Wings 64. It was by far the most peaceful, and most beautiful track I ever heard. I used to go to the Sound Test in PW64, turn on the Birdman BGM, and relax back in the day. The Pilot Wings 64 soundtrack overall is pretty mediocre, but the Birdman theme hits home with me.

Other notable soundtracks that kept me going are Star Fox 64, Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia. Grandia is special because it was the first (and only) game soundtrack that made me want to play the game instead of the game making me want the soundtrack.

I distinctly remember when I was 10 years old using a handheld cassette recorder to record songs from the Sonic 2 soundtrack played in sound test mode. In between tracks, I would interject with some talking like I was a Radio DJ.

Many years later, here I am, still enjoying gaming soundtracks...just not pretending I'm broacasting them on the radio.

Destruction Derby and Battle Arena Toshinden, both were on the PS1 sampler and it led me to try to find them out.

Pac-Man World for PS1. I was like 7 and I found out the disc played in audio players so i ran upstairs and out it in my stereo and sat there for about an hour.

Mischief Makers on N64 was one of 'em... also FF VII (the opening hooked me), and... um... Mario Kart 64. Think that's about it.

It was the guilty gear series that did it for me. X and X2 music was just great.

The Wipeout 2 soundtrack was one of the first things that I heard and found nice while playing (Yes I am young). One of my first games by the way.

I really can't recall too well what game soundtrack got me hooked but I want to say Xenogears. I believe after that I started to hunt down various OSTs and selected tracks.

Spyro 1 & Crash Bandicoot 1,2 and 3 first got me hooked, and it is still my fav games

Ninja Gaiden for the NES. Yeah, castlevania, Zelda, and Mario all got me hooked on the music. But Ninja Gaiden is the one that started me down the path of hunting down CD's.

It isn't my favorite game/RPG/on the series/OST, but I guess Final Fantasy VII was the first game that made me notice its soundtrack. It was also the first OST I ever downloaded, if I'm not mistaken...

The first game soundtrack that i heard and made me realize i loved game music was.....Samurai Shodown..... Nakoruru's level to be precise. Super Mario RPG came in very close second. and then i fell in love with FFII well i was told it was actually four so whichever one had Cecil, Rydia, and Kaine in it is the soundtrack in talkin about.

The one that did it for me was Golden Sun for the GBA.

Super Castlevania IV or Mega Man X1. I can't remember which one exactly I played first, but both those games made it very obvious for me (w/ regards to music), that I loved video game music above all else.

Mega Man 2...thats when i started liking game music. But when Final Fantasy 6 came out, that's when i fell in love <3

Later on, my craving was intensified even more by Utada Hikaru, with her songs Sanctuary and Simple & Clean from Kingdom Hearts.

My first video game OST that I loved was Megaman 2. Cant really say that I immediately got hooked after that but I can remember renting that game when I was like 6 or 7 and just loving the music.

The Crystal Chronicles ost. I know that seems late, but it just captured me.

However generic it sounds, it definately was FF7..

TMNT IV: Turtles in Time

Has to be Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 2. Masato Nakamura is an absolute genius. Listen to the Staff Credits song on 1, it's genius. He's meshed all the songs together into one big heap.

Yeah, I really liked sonic soundtracks, too. My favs were starlight zone and the boss tune. The intro was a kicker, too. Used to play the game to death.

Castevania: Symphony of the Night was what got me going seriously, but I think was actually hooked (in an unconsious sense) by the old Capcom "Commando" - especially the high-score theme.

The first soundtrack I bought was for Primal (PS2)... However, the first soundtrack I really liked was either Beyond Good & Evil or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (multiple platforms). I also liked some of FFVII's stuff, but most of it was just meh.

Riviera The Promised Land on the GBA. The battle theme and Ledah's theme were incredible.

I'd Say Lunar 2:eternal blue for the playstation. Which was awesome because it came with a soundtrack when you bought it, and also FFVII I remember one wing angel, the last boss music was one of the coolest things i heard as a kid.

But Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali did it for me...that moment i knew: "I LIKE VIDEO GAME MUSIC"
If i had played Final Fantasy VII first (which i didnt :S) im sure One Winged Angel (and all the other great tracks) would also be the trigger

Final Fantasy IV- Airship Theme. Once I heard this, I felt... I had heard something that was I was always waiting to hear. That music wasn't just strings and drums; that video game music was an ignorable series of beeps and squeals. It was... Beautiful. That games can be enjoyable for more than just graphics and difficult stages. I love the music of FFIV and still hold it close as the beginning of what made believe that game music was possible of becoming that of what it is to day for me and now others.

The two that definetly got me really excited and interested in vgm was Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark. I grew up playing both of them when I was younger, and didn't really notice the music. Then, as I got older, I went back and played them both - and I was stunned. The music was amazing! And so, here I am :)

I also really liked the DOOM 64, Duke Nukem and all the Mario soundtracks.

Alisia Dragoon, Sword of Vermillion, Thunderforce 4 and Phantasy star 2 spring to mind...

Final fantasy X is the first one that comes to mind >.> I remember rocking out to "Otherworld" so much that my mother took the CD away from me just to get rid of that song.

Another one Is the MGS:3 soundtrack! its a great way to get pumped for paintball :) ....or sneaking out of the house.

The soundtrack that hooked me onto game music would probably be Final Fantasy VIII. Just so many varieties of sounds on that album that it stuck in my head. A few notables would be Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve and Max Payne. But FFVIII was definately the one that got me interested in both FF games and game music.

But really, its the music of games now a days that gets me more and more pumped for game rips and soundtracks, with scores like The Darkness Metal Gear Solid 2-4 and Assassin's Creed out there.

Original Command and Conquer is what got me.

Ahh, gosh, it's hard to say, but I guess for me it's a split between "Final Fantasy III/VI's" "Terra/Tina Theme," the ending credits song for "Link to the Past," and any number of different songs from "Chrono Trigger," including "Frog's Theme," "Schala's Theme" (one of my all-time favorites), and the theme for "Zeal."

While "Terra/Tina" has been very influential for me ~ listening to the vocal arrangement on the "Final Fantasy: Pray" album on rainy days ~ and the ending credit theme for "Link to the Past" STILL conjures up great imagery and emotion for me, I knew I was really in trouble with video game music when I bought the Original Sound Version for "Chrono Trigger," super enthusiastic that they had "deleted/unreleased songs" like "Battle 2" and "The Singing Mountain." "Chrono Trigger" was and still IS the game I look for the most remixes to on OverClocked Remix and elsewhere, and of course I know a huge part of me loving the game IS the music, which also made me a big fan of MITSUDA Yasunori.

Heh, mine was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2 for NES, when I was 5, I'd spend hours and hours everyday trying to get to the last boss just because the song was cool! :D

Zelda: Ocarina of time. twas the first video game soundtrack i bought.

My first love was actually the Saga Frontier music. I was actually playing the game one day and got tired of putting it on pause just to hear the music play. I raided my local import store and got had over a fake version of the real soundtrack. I paid somewhere around $42 for it, but I wanted it baaaaaadddd!

I started since I was a kid. While watching my brother play nes, I used to hum out tracks from megaman, ninja turtles, shadowgate, rescue the embassy mission, etc etc... Basically anything from capcom, konami, tecmo, & kemco.

i remember idolizing yuzo koshiro as a kid.. and thanks to those 2 games, id always check out a sound test on a game before i even played it. soon as id come home from block buster or funco land.. id go straight to check out the tunes.

A combination of Ocarina of Time, FFX, Kingdom Hearts, Banjo-Kazooie and Sonic got me downloading VGM in the first place.

But the album that officially converted me to seriously listening to VGM as music completely separate to games, would be Shadow of the Colossus. Epic album, and probably still my favourite soundtrack to this day.

Megaman 2 was my first big crush back then. In the end I played it just to hear the music.
Crash Bandicoot 1 was my first real favourite, and finally, for some reason I don't understand, Vigilante 8. I taped the Vigilante 8 OST to a cassette and played it until it broke my Walkman. I guess that was the point when I realised that I was hooked big time.

Well I remember always humming the tunes to Kabuki Quantum Fighter and Castlevania II. Probably didn't get the bug until Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Crystal Teardrops did it for me. Then once I heard Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.....well........you know!

Metal Gear Solid 2

Well I enjoyed all of the MGS, Splinter Cell, Ape Escape, and Crash music. But what decided my scored fate was the original Spyro trilogy by Stewart Copeland. Only he could give you foreign music and mix it in with unnecessary rock drums and still make it work. Go look it up if you haven't yet.

For me it started with Twisted Metal 2! Gotta love the soundtrack to that classic PS1 game. It later followed with FFVII, FFIX, FFX, Kingdom Hearts Series, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 and other games from Square Enix, Atlus, and Capcom.

For me, it was Super Mario RPG, that game had music that I could listen to for days, especially the composition after you beat Smithy with all the stars... it was amazing. :)

Legend of Zelda tal-tal Heights , Simon belmonts Theme and metroid songs did it for me, oh and Final Fantasy also

for me it was the original Hitman that started it all

Has to be Final Fantasy II Legends for the Game Boy. More specifically the gods battle theme "dreadful battle" i think.

I could jump on the band wagon and say Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog, or something else super old-school like Rolan's Curse for Game Boy, but I'll be true to myself and say that I think I really took notice in videogame music once more complex, orchestral scores started surfacing i.e. Castlevania SotN and FFVII.

Don't get me wrong though, scores for old games are fantastic and have definitely laid the foundation for videogame scores down the line, but SotN was actually the first game that actually made me drive down to an import shop and order the soundtrack.

Sonic 1 as it was my first game.

Nathan McCree's Tomb Raider score way back on PS1. then other games such as MGS,Silent Hill, Resident Evil.Hitman series....

most recently i'd have to say Uncharted is my favourite VG score :D

a game flows by it's music imo and can add to the feel (a bit like a movie score does).

Final Fantasy VIII. That was the first time I really wanted something before discovering what eBay was. And since then, I realized how much music in a video game was important to me. Without it (basing this on story-driven games BTW), the game would lose a LOT of...zen? You know what I mean lol

When I first heard the Redbook audio of the 1995 MS-DOS/PC game XCar: Experimental Racing back in 1999, I didn't know that I was addicted to it. I only realised it six years later when I started playing Descent 3.

Donkey Kong Country 2 was the first soundtrack to make me shit my pants. Seriously, Snakey Chanty, Boss Bossanova, Disco Train...good times, good times.

I've got to meditate far enough to figure if the true first one. Maybe Rad Racer or even Gyromite.

But Contra, Castlevania I / II and Blaster Master definitely had amazing music. I recall that looping overworld music (where you run around as the dude in the suit and shoot stuff).

I got into videogame music because of Spyro The Dragon too, just awesome!

I think i was always into video game music. I would actually say pokemon red was what first got me into it. Legend of Legaia sealed it for me

WAY back in the day, sheesh it probably started with Outrun but Streets of Rage 2 was the one that sealed the deal.

The early Megaman - games for the NES got me running around humming in the schoolyard when I was a kid so I guess that would be my first VGM - hook.

The music and sounds of Chrono Trigger by Yasunori Mitsuda really got me to listen in a new way when it came to VGM. This soundtrack still pops up in my Winamp from time to time, and I still play the game once in while. If you've barely listened to the soundtrack, then go get it and take a good long listen. Super Mario World for the SNES, Super Probotector and of Course Zelda III also had some very good tunes.

When I first fired up Chrono Cross and heard Time's Scar, I knew I'd love that game.

I've been hooked ever since, as a 6-year old, I popped Yogi Bear into my Super Nintendo and played a video Game for the first time. This is probably also the reason why I love the Yogi SNES Music so much (face it, who here DIDN'T like the music in the very first game they played? (Old atari machines and Intellivision/colecovisions don't count)

ha, really? K, didn't know Intelly had an advanced enough sound chip to make music. Then again, there's pitfall 2 on atari 2600...

The sound chip was very primitive and I think many games only had sound effects but it could achieve some kind of music, although they were mostly short loops or jingles.

Yeah, I heard burgertime intelly. Sounds surprisingly similar to the NES version. (you can find THAT version on Playthenes)...in fact...it's just about as good...(gasp)was the intelly's sound chip almost as good as the simplest part of the NES sound chip? XD

Still, Yogi SNES was a classic for me. I grabbed the SPC. I think I might record the OST from there and put it up somewhere.

Hey, I hear ya. Just like somebody might prefer the NES version of the SMB theme over the SNES one (but I grew up with the SNES one)

Also, wow, I guess the intelly sound chip WAS pretty capable.

The soundtrack to Chrono Cross was what turned me on to the world of video game music. I'd already had the soundtracks to FFVII, FFIX, and FFX, but I listened to them simply because they reminded me of games I'd enjoyed. The Chrono Cross soundtrack, however, opened me up to all different kinds of VGM, and finding/enjoying it inspired me to search for other albums on the Web, which is how I found GH. It's my favorite soundtrack, even after all this time.

To this day, I still haven't played Chrono Cross.

Guess it started with Street Fighter II back in the day... I loved Balrog's (US) Vegas theme. And... when being released from hospital after a leg surgery as a kid... I would sit on the backseat of our car and do nothing but listening to Ken's and (of course) Balrog's stage themes.

But the Tekken 2 soundtrack really got me into it. And in this 12 years (I got my first PlayStation including Tekken 2 at Christmas in 1997) I've never had another soundtrack love bigger than that again.

Although Tekken 5 / T5:DR comes pretty close...
