I hope that this is in the right section, if not then whatever.
I have played XII and X; Now I'm interested in buying Final Fantasy 8 (and possibly 7) over ebay. I have heard that the storylines are cuntalicious. I've looked at some screenshots of both games and I have decided that I might purchase them for the PC for graphical purposes. I fear that the fucking PS1 graphics are going to take away from the gaming/FF experience because I started the FF series on the PS2.
For those of you that own the PC versions of the games, can you toggle graphic options so that it looks somewhat better? And would it be worth purchasing at this point in time?

I wouldnt worry too much about graphics, I'd only buy it if it was cheap tho, a lot of places try selling it for about 20 round here

If i were you i would get them for the PS1...In my opinion it's easier because you don't have to use a keyboard and stuff... But even if you do have the controller for your computer, i'd still recommend them for the PS1.
Also, they are defiantly worth purchasing... as long as the price is under ($30 US), i paid 20 US for my FF8 (new!) at Ebgames. Unfortunately it was the only one they had in stock, I had to rebuy mine because my fat ass brother stepped on my case like an ass hole and broke all the CD's @!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!-

On Ebay, I can only get either game for approximately $50 Canadian (I live in Canada). I can spare the cash, but I don't want to if there is a cheaper place to buy from. I checked with my local ebay games and shit and they said that they don't carry playstation 1 games anymore (....the pricks...). So does anybody know of a reliable, cheaper place to order these fucking games from?

I think you should get the game. It's a very fun game with a great storyline. Just the romance seems a little rushed. And as for FFVII: I RECOMMEND IT. It's by far has the best Final Fantasy storyline. (And I thought FFX was amazing!)
Also, as funnyboy said, get them for PSone. You'll enjoy them a lot better.

Sucks for you. PSX had a lot of good rpgs. We can even go farther than that and say that SNES was a gemstone for RPGs.
I would buy them though. Graphics are pretty good IMO.

You should get FFVII and FFVIII. There good games graphics are dated but the storyline for the games makes it worth getting.

Get both of them, especially if your a collector
PC version usually causes problems for some people so I suggest on getting the PS1 versions of both games. I honestly thought the storyline for FFVIII was alot better than FFVII (I thought it was boring as shit). And the only thing that makes the PC graphics better is that the characters are clearer, but the background is very pixelated and the music is someone watered down to a SNES level. For me, the music is one of the most important things for a game and the PS1 has the better music. Besides, I didn't get the same experience playing the game on a PC compared to my television. I think it's funner on PS1 but that's just me. You can look around thrift stores or places where they buy, sell, and trade different things (including video games) that aren't EB Games or Gamestop because the other stores will most likely have PS1 games. I got my copy of FFVIII and FFVII for $15USD brand new at a Sam Goody store in a local mall.

I agree with IDX Rider. I've seen various posts here reporting various problems with the PC version on more modern hardware. Getting the PSOne version is definitely a better idea, as you could use it on a PS2 (which has no reported problems running it) or if you wish to play it on the PC, a PSOne emulator.

Get em, get em, get em! I just bought my 3rd copy of FF8 on ebay for the grand sum of 9! And considering the fact that most of the places which sell second hand FF games for the PSX charge 30, I was most impressed. Now I've just gotta get FF9 because one of my discs is knackered, surprise!
Both 7 and 8 are excellent games.
Get the FF8 pc version the FF7 pc version quite sucks and you need to make many updates and modifications.....

For what it's worth, FF8 has very good graphics for a PSOne game. It's certainly pushing the PSOne's GPU to the limits with all those cutscenes and high-quality renderings of the monsters and characters.

A good idea if you want the game sooner and have a damn-fast internet connection.
It doesn't matter how fast your internet connection is for downloading something. It depends on who you're downloading from.

FF7 Here

You have to get a torrent downloader, if you already don't... I recommend Utorrent (
http://download.utorrent.com/1.6.1/uTorrent-1.6.1-install.exe), for me somehow it seems to get faster peers to help upload the file (ive tried bitlord, bittorent) (again idk how, others might say different)

Agreed.
I got all my FF ISOs from ROMHustler (thanks to a tip-off at the General Gaming forum). The 16 disc download took almost two weeks. Well worth it tho.
I use Bit Tornado for my torrents and I usually go to TorrentSpy to get the torrents because they seem to always have what I'm looking for. Also, mininova works quite well too.

DEFINITELY get these 2. They are great games, regardless of graphics, every bit as good as the Ps2 games, better in some ways.
As for downloading them, to do that, you have to have a good computer, or can you burn them to a disc for your Ps2 to read? Is that even possible?
You don't need a good computer in order to download these games. And yes, you can burn them to a disc if you want. In order for your PS2 to be able to read them, you need a modchip or if you have the old fat PS2, you can get a special boot disc that lets the system play burned and imported PS1 games.
Just go out and buy the games unless you want the PC versions. Those are easy to get a hold of through torrents.

I meant, you have to have a powerful comp to play them, right? Mine won't even play a 64 emulator.
Where can one get one of these boot discs? I have one of the older models, and would love to play some of the import-only games.

Well, it plays decently with ePSXe on my HP-Compaq Presario 930AP laptop that I bought on Christmas 2002 (which became crap when 2005 rolled around as it's onboard Radeon 7000 struggled with newer games). So, I guess you could get away with it. I guess computers from as far as 5 years back should handle it fine, although you need to sacrifice graphics/sound quality. The PC version should play on something from somewhere from 1999 on, but is extremely picky on what kind of hardware/software it's installed along with.
As for burning onto a CD, yeah, you can do that, but you need to make sure your PSOne is modded or you have a boot disc ready. For PS2s, like IDX Rider said, make sure you have a modcip or boot disc.

Well, you could start by looking around import sites. Usually they would carry bootdiscs. And eBay's worth a look too.

yeah the pc version is RARE as hell, and it's going for about 60-120 usd. 2 the PS1 version is better, because you won't hit non functioning keys as much, I mean what kind of controller has like 30+ keys? also the only thing good about the Pc version is that you can share game files, so if you have everyone level 100 and all Gfs you can give it to a friend with ease. Now graphics fails and improves all at the same time. They have defined the characters more but raped the world map. I mean it looks like a clay sculpture rather than a town. and unless you are using, a television as a monitor the FMVs will be super-compressed and have mucho pixelation. If you want to get the PC version might as well torrent it.
I meant, you have to have a powerful comp to play them, right? Mine won't even play a 64 emulator.

My computer is utter shit and it plays the games just fine. If you need, download the patches for the games.
As for the boot discs, I got mine from www.estarland.com and www.modchipstore.com (after I dropped a weight on the DVD disc and bought the upgraded ones). For the PS2 imports and backups, get Swap Magic. I can't remember the name of the boot disc that lets the PS2 play burned and imported PS1 games, but it's at estarland.

I suggest looking around. I think I saw the PC version of FFVIII on sale at a local mall sometime back. Not too pricey at RM80(~US$20). It's apparently released as an EA Classics pack, which while legit, is produced locally, and I hear that it has no warranty and support, so if you bought a pack with a dud disc or if the game won't run for some reason, you're on your own.
EDIT: Found it. Here's the URL of the local distributor:

Well, here's the story. I did order FFVIII for PS1. It came in a little while ago, and I am enjoying it. I just started so, I really can't say if I like it better than 10. I definitely like it better than 12 for obvious reasons....The graphics haven't bothered me much, I just think of them as nerfed FF10 graphics. I don't think I am going to get FF7 because the fucking characters are just cunting polygonic shapes!!

I would say that if you started playing final fantasy X then you will only think the serie is better if you play 7 and 8. Sure the graphics aint the same but the story is soo mutch better, specielly on nr 7 that in my opinion is the best game ever made.
The recommendation of someone who types like a complete retard holds very little value. And yes, this moron is indicative of the mentality of a very large number of FFVII fans. That should say a great deal about the game itself.
