Ok my characters are around lvl 50-55 I have all the ultimate weapons except Ragnorak and Musamune, I'm about to fight Zeromus. Am I at a high enough level to beat him? Also leveling tricks/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Your fine level wise, although extra leveling never hurt anyone, I think my highest char was low 70's when I beat him.
Not a leveling tip but you'll be needed it if you haven't already been using a guide check out

Try to be sure you have Meteo with Rydia, and if you need to build your levels, then you should start from the last save point in the Crystal Castle on the moon.

I think I always built my characters up to level 60 before taking on the final boss for any FF game. For some reason, I just assumed that was the standard necessary level. If you can't beat Zeromus as you are, just get to level 60.

ok ill try that cause I just challenged him and he cast big bang 4 times in the first min of the battle along with flare and bio, it kicked my ass

Sumbitch. Did you get Ragnarok from Wyvern? I think if you can't beat all the bosses to get the best equipment, you shouldn't bother challenging Zeromus yet.

The best advice I can give you is to go 1 floor down from the last save point and level up a bit then save. Then see if you can battle the enemies 3 floors down. The 3 red dragon and 2 behemoth parties are hard but they give a lot of experience.

Honesty, I find Rydia's magic useless in this fight. It can do some good damage to Zeromus, sure, but he counters the spells with some high end magic of his own. I just have Rydia attack with her whip, and don't bother to revive her if/when she dies.
Other than that, I'd say you should be able to win the fight as soon as Rosa learns Cure 4 (or whatever they call the highest-level healing spell on later versions.) Just have her cast that every turn, Cecil attack, Edge throw some of the higher end things in your inventory and then switch to attack if he runs out, and Kain Jump or Attack.

Zeromus is doable at ~ 55, but requires a bit of finesse. If your usual tactics consist of the "attackers attack, healers heal" slugfest, I'd advise you be in your 60s or 70s before attempting Zeromus. At the very least, make sure you can beat all the weapon bosses.
As with most FF games, I personally have more trouble getting to the final boss than I have beating him. Nevermind the weapon bosses, the standard enemies in that dungeon are brutal.

Yeah the first time I played the PSX version and the first time I made it to the moon this year, I got wiped out opening a treasure chest. That really pissed me off :(.

Yeah, I think that trend started with FFII. When opening chests late in the game, be prepared for instadeath. Could be a mimic, a magic pot or !@#$ing Shinryu. -_-

Ah, good ol' Zeromus. As said before, if you're low-level and about 50, it is possible to beat him, but you have to use a lot of tactics. I was reaching the 60s, when I beat him, and actually Kain's Jump saved me. When Zeromus used his instantkill-attack Kain was in the air and then revived Rosa, etc.
Fact is that you should get Asura for that fight. Her heal helped me a lot and actually you can have Rosa cast Ultima on Zeromus, which does a load of damage. Edge's magic wasn't all that bad, too. I think the Thunder of him is pretty okay when you run out of good throwing things. He can also aid in using healing items.
Rydia's Flare was very helpful, too. Her summons, except Asura, didn't really help me, although summoning Bahamuth is pretty good.
And Kain should always Jump. With Cecil I also used Cure and attacked a bit.
So yeah... if you haven't beaten him yet, try to think of some tactics.

Bad Boy! When FF4 was created Squaresoft and enix were separate companies! That shows your lack of gamefreak wisdom! Psh. =P
You could try to follow my strategy.
