[FLAC Lossless] Final Fantasy [ALL]

Here it is! 100% packed PCM w/ FLAC. All you need to do is unpack the files and they're back
to their original uncompressed format. All packs include the original SFV created from the
extracted wav files, so in the end if you did everything correct your wav files should match
the originals.

I have every FF Audio CD and plan on releasing more FLAC encoded, let me know if you're looking
for any specific one and I'll try to get it up. I am not opening my FF Finest (Advance) sealed
box as that's limited to 5000 copies so forget it! Other than that most of the FF music I have
can be ripped :)

Hopefully this will generate more FLAC and PPCM releases eh? If you really want to reconstruct
the CD w/ the correct gaps (pauses) ask me and I'll rip you the TOC.

For those who have no idea what FLAC or MLP etc. is:

FLAC is a lossless compression very simular to .zip or .rar, except it's dedicated for Audio
use. Unlike Mp3 or other lossy compression, as with a zip file FLAC is a packer or a wrapper.
No information is lossed, this is known as PPCM (Packed PCM) formatting.

You can decode FLAC back into uncompressed PCM files.

The music of Radical Dreamers was written by composer Yasunori Mitsuda, the same artist who scored Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. In addition to regular music, the soundtrack also includes ambient pieces, used to heighten suspense during the game's tense moments. A handful of themes from the game were later adapted for Chrono Cross on the suggestion of director Masato Kato.[4] Many pieces appear unchanged except for new instrumentation.[4] Appearing in Chrono Cross are Gale, Frozen Flame, Viper Manor, Far Promise ~ Dream Shore (On the Beach of Dreams ~ Another World, The Dream that Time Dreams), The Girl Who Stole the Star (Star-Stealing Girl) and Epilogue ~ Dream Shore (Jellyfish Sea). Other musical ideas and progressions are found elsewhere in Cross's repertoire.

The Final Fantasy IV OST was first released on June 14, 1991, by Square Co., Ltd./NTT
Publishing Co., Ltd,, and subsequently re-released on November 26, 1994, and October 1, 2004,
by NTT Publishing Co., Ltd.

Tragically, the CD soundtrack was edited to [squeeze] as much VGM on a single CD. The entire
soundtrack contains 44 songs which most song fades oddly loop at 1.5 times (instead of the
standard 2 times) and is 63 Minutes.

This Complete and Restored version contains all 52 tracks and fades loop at the standard 2
times and is 1.6 hours and fits on 2 CDs.

Restoration Process:
===============

None of the 44 released tracks were re-recorded. These tracks were re-edited and
fades looped at the standard 2 times.

Unreleased tracks were taken from the original SPC (SNES sound) files and recorded from a real SNES console.

[For the boring technical details, no one wants to read] but I will post it anyway. X-2 is copy protected with Midbar's (Macrovision) DRM [copy protection]. The adds (C2 & CU - uncorrectable) errors to the disc. It's the SAME as if you scratch your disc, yeah, this is what we call selling "damaged goods" hence why the stopped using that *crap*. Thus it literally corrupts/damages the user data. Lucky for you I actually was an inventor for CD Audio DRM and am an expert w/ this :D

In order to correctly extract CDS-200 discs, I use a high-end Plextor Premium drive and Plextools XL, what we do is recover sectors. Since the CD sectors are redundant, we rescue the data (extract it) by looking at the good sectors and ignoring the bad sectors based on the redundancy. Alas, there are very few (if any) FF X-2 correct rips as standard drives and software will fail to rip the CD Quality samples :( It will rip it but you will have sample [data] loss resulting in lower quality music :(

EAC and other software may or may not do this as it depends on your drive’s internal firmware and how it detects, corrects and handles C1/C2/CU errors…most drives won’t rescue the data instead it will “correct” it by adding zero’s in the place of errors :(

Best thing of all is that I use VLC media player (http://www.videolan.org/) which uses its own built-in codecs, one of which includes FLAC, for audio/video playback; there's no need to download any extra codecs.:-D

Well yeah but remeber the Redbook [PCM] format is so obsecure that it isn't a file system or have ANY error corection, so ripping PCM varies from application to application and drive to drive...I have yet to make a true 1:1 copy from CDDA doing a bit to bit copy to the original wav. I can't say I notice much any difference doing it this way. I use Creative Wave Studio, set the correct db levels, disable all DSP and upmix effects, record directly from Wave output, and change the settings in the wave editor to 48khz/24bit. Once the track is done recording I make my final edits and the save the project as a WMA Lossless 48khz/24bit or 48khz/16bit. There's no analog noise, hiss, our any quality loss from what I can hear, it's just probably not 100% mathematically lossless but I can't tell the difference between this and ripping it directly from the CD, so...=)

It's OK though because (1), I now already recorded the tracks and they all work and (2), I haven't listened to it in so long since I seem to be listening only to video game music.=)

Oh, and thanks a whole bunch for uploading the Final Fantasy X-2 Soundtrack, I like a lot of the jazzy type of songs that it has. Thanks again. I stumped my other toe the last time I was trying to give two thumbs and two big toes; that's why it was the only one left [I know you're laughing but it hurt],:sad: but now... *Two thumbs, two and a half big toes up*!!! Strange medical disorder.:(

I can't say I notice much any difference doing it this way. Speakers also mean a lot, $3,000 ($6,000 a pair) high end studio speakers mixed w/ Golden Ears could tell a difference. That isn't most of us, no you won't hear any difference at all. You're right it isn't mathematically correct.

If you really want to see what happens and you have the time and patience here's what to do:

Take an original CD/DVDA whatever and make your analog transfer. I would keep it small, about 30 seconds should work. Now that is a second generation capture. Take that recording and burn it to a CD (or just play it and re-record it) the same way. That's a third generation recording. Keep doing it...by the fifth or sixth you will hear more and more analog hiss, noise and oddly notice a speed/pitch change :) Obviously if there is no quality loss it should never change, as with digital it will never change...as long as you don't change the algorithm and simply copy it.

And yeah this is audiophile nonsense that has little value to life!

Lossy (mp3, ogg, m4a, wma): In order to make the file small (70mb down to 4mb) throws out parts of the music that it "thinks" your ears can't hear. To make matter's even worse "Lame" uses "Joint-Stereo" encoding, a process that takes two channels and basically makes them one. It treats the music as mono w/ the exception of differences it finds...it's awful!

Lossless (FLAC, WMAL, m4al): Takes the uncompressed PCM from the CD and puts a wrapper around it. Basically a zip file w/ a higher compression ratio.

Maybe that will make them happy? :)

FYI: Even though people aren't posting, FF 12 already has 40 downloads...so the leechers are grabbing it.

Thanks man! I really like the various versions of "Eternity ~memory of Lightwaves~. There is this one version of it that I got on the web that I couldn't find on any of the Final Fantasy X-2 albums. The piano in this one had a more enveloping sound and there were violins and stuff, so maybe it might be on one of those two singles that you've mentioned that I didn't know about. =)

I actually have many more requests from Final Fantasy series but I'm not going to bother you with them, for awhile anyway; I'll stick with the small stuff, like the singles. You know what, this brings to mind another great short album. It's from Final Fantasy X, it's called: Feel Go Dream Yuna & Tidus Tribute Album. I really like that first song even though the woman singing it sounds a little out of tune, I still prefer it with the lyrics though. =)

It's using an anon proxy. It can be a pain as many proxy's won't work or they'll be too slow or someone else already used it and MegaUpload still won't work!

In IE: Tools >Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings> check use a proxy and enter one.

Be warned it's not always easy to find a fast working one, happy hunting!

The best is to search the actual CDDB (CD Data Base) where iTunes and WMP get the CD info from. So far all the FF CDs I ripped here have been listed, and I even submitted a few in English (taken from ffmusic or cdjapan).

Type in the CD name, you will often get multiple choices b/c everyone submits their own. http://www.gracenote.com/music/

www.ffmusic.info should also help and has most FF known CDs, including bootlegs, artist, composers etc.

I probably should tag them but...takes too long b/c I rip into .wavs and then compress. I could go directly into FLAC but those apps don't support the CDDB and the free DB one doesn't have much on FF...

As for the artwork I don't know...I have FF X-2 from the iTunes store 600x600 crappy jpg files they use if you want it? I haven't purchased much from iTunes since it's lossy and the same but have a few releases that were modified for the US (i.e. FF X-2 has the English ver.) and FF1 & 2 NES were resequenced and remastered (different from All Sounds). Stuff like that.

I don't have a scanner anymore it broke or I would scan them for you :(

I'm learning bits and pieces about this myself. I would suggest getting this program: Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/). Also download the FLAC (http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html) codec. Insert a CD, open up Exact Audio Copy, select the setting to compress the audio using the newly downloaded FLAC codec and save the songs using the compressed format.

Sure:

1) Download Anti Resonance's spc2rom http://alpha-ii.com/Source/SPC2R11s.rar

2) Convert your SPC file to the SNES ROM format using spc2rom.

3) Load the ROM image into your SNES Flash Cart or copier (whatever you have).

If you have the DX2 like I do, then download his RBDUtil http://alpha-ii.com/Download/RBDU200.zip

4) I strongly recommend you modify your SNES to the "S/PDIF output" for high quality digital
output to capture the music 100% accurate w/o hiss or noise. http://alpha-ii.com/Info/snes-spdif.html

I'm not sure about the compression of either of them (which one is better) nor am I sure about the resources they each use up. If you could shine some light on this I would appreciate it.

So lets say that I didn't want to use FLAC audio but instead WMAL audio, which one is better? WMAL and m4al [Apple Lossless] are more wildly supported, as in WMP and iTunes...neither support FLAC.

As for size, AL and WMAL are slightly larger than FLAC and I mean slightly the difference is only 1 or 2 mb. I assume this is do to the extra heading info they use and of course optional DRM.

As for size FLAC compressed best ratio (+8) is a little smaller but not small IMHO to make any difference whatsoever.

As for sound quality they should all stream equally but...you know how that goes. Personally I use Apple Lossless only b/c I use iTunes and not WMP.

Either way when I ran my tests and extracted WMAL, AL & FLAC the wav files were 100% identical byte for byte. I proved this using a hex editor and doing a byte for byte comparison. So to me it's all the same, zip, rar, wmal etc.

Anyway to answer your question as best to my knowledge, WMAL is fine and probably better than FLAC considering Microsoft has spent millions developing it and FLAC is donated time. I love open source but it isn't better...just free.

I'm only using FLAC b/c it's simple to make and uncompress using the FLAC Front end and the compression ratio surpasses WMAL, AL, ZIP, RAR etc. That's the only reason I use it for these uploads.

Just open the FLAC front end and drag ALL the files into it and hit "decode" and it'll give you the wavs and then you can do whatever you wish w/ 'em.

Not a whole lot. Some Famicom Anniversary CDs, Metal Gear Solid, Xenogears, Chrono Stuff, some Castlevaina, Front Mission 2, Tobal 2 and I am sure a few others just can't think of it off hand. Anyway nothing great..the SoulReaver 2 promo CD. Not a whole lot, the rest are all Lossy :(

Yep it copy's damaged discs by reconstructing the missing samples. Basically you ripped a damaged CD, just like the silly copy protected ones lol

Oh I forgot about this: I do have all of the C64 scene releases from www.c64audio.com but...Chris is a personal friend of mine and you can buy FLAC downloads directly from him :) So I can't rip them...but it's good VGM, SID and arranged.

As for my [pirate] morals on that...Square-Enix, Nintendo, Microsoft etc. are multi-billion dollar companies and aren't going to go out of business from VGM downloads. They are in the Video Game industry [not the VGM] which is a 7 billion dollar a year industry and growing!

Chris is in the VGM business and like most Indies can't even make a living from it :( So I don't support or download any indie VGM since if we did it would fade away and I want it to grow.Anyway that's my view.

To my knowledge (and I am not an EAC expert) EAC doesn't support WMAL, only wav, FLAC (external encoder) and LAME (external encoder).

LAME and FLAC are open source and were modified to work with EAC, WMP is not open source and doesn't support EAC. You may want to Google this to see for sure.

e the procedure you've presented to me on the thread....... i'd like to ask, would you reckon it's a good idea to emulate it using an SNES9x Emulator or something simular? or do i have to buy that USB thing to do it with still?

As for anyone asking about this:

I don't bother with or support emulated ripping as it is inaccurate (timing, mixing, pitch etc.) and sadly there is TONs of it and never titled "emulated rip" as it should be.

Anyone can emulate the music into wav, it's fast and easy. If these are released it should state [Emulated RIP] and not [Recording].

There are several ways to use the correct hardware (PSX, PS2, NES, SID, SNES, GBA etc.) to record accurate music. I will do my best to help w/ these questions.

Personally I have no interest in emulated music.

[searches Google] I finally found how to use WMA9 Lossless encoding within EAC.:D If you ever become interested in using WMAL within EAC in the future, you'll need to download the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx) and follow philgood's instructions for setting it to lossless within EAC:


i browsed EAC to the location of the cscript.exe. and put this as command line options:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\WMCmd.vbs" -input %s -output %d -a_codec WMA9LSL -a_mode 2


I crosschecked the resulting .wma file with the WMPlayer encoded lossless version and they were the same in size. Yeah.

So anyway, all is good, great even.:angel:

So keep doing what you're doing in providing a lossless solution for all true audiophiles out there, for video game music anyway. :cool:

Forget about what I've said above, here's the easy way:

Download the latest beta version of EAC (Exact Audio Copy) here:

Download the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series here:

Install Windows Media Encoder 9 and then start EAC. Click on "EAC" in the menu bar and choose "Compression Options" (or just press F11). Go to the External Compression tab and next to the "Parameter Passing Scheme" select Microsoft WMA9 Encoder from the drop-down list, also make the bit rate "Lossless".

Now when you copy selected track(s) using "Compressed" it will encode them as WMAL (Windows Media Audio Lossless).

All is done! Have a very nice day! :-D :-D :-D

There is no "true" way of measuring that w/o looking at the original sectors of the CD Audio disc :( There are a number of "top" drives, Plextor being the favorite that give the best results. Have a look over at www.cdfreaks.com

Generally speaking ripping into any uncompressed format (aiff, wav etc.) or lossless (WMAL, Apple, FLAC) etc. will give you a lossless 1:1 rip.

If the disc is not damaged (artificially or by physical scratches) and you have a decent drive it should be OK using EAC (w/ the correct settings) but it is impossible to know for sure, unless you do byte to byte comparisons...(no one does this) as you'll never rip PCM at 100% (1:1) just never happens :(

I should add that the EAC log will give a decent and reliable estimate, if EAC says 100% then it is safe to say the quality will be crisp...if EAC says 80% you need to re-rip it using another method.

This is not for DVDA, that's UDF (like DVDV) so no probs...this is just for SP Redbook format (i.e. CDDA).

This time I decided to use EAC and go directly into FLAC, that means everything is now fully tagged. I also added the artwork for the releases too.

EAC w/ Secure Mode takes a while but rips are 99.5% - 100%, most are at 100%...though we know the checksum value is only going by the drive's firmware as what it can read so w/ Redbook to get a true 1:1 rip is almost impossible as far as I am concerned. If you use EAC be sure to use advanced settings and secure mode, hopefully your drive doesn't use audio cache. Remember all CDs have a certain ammount of errors and it is normal to get 99.5% (less than 100%) quality...though anything below 99% would require ripping via another drive and/or method.

That's probably wise to do since I have dedicated test PCs anyway that I simply Ghost :) I will rip the application apart and check to trojan/virus/spyware etc. on a test PC, don't need to infect mine :)

If your computer does not have an up-to-date antivirus, or does not have an antivirus solution at all, follow the instructions below to delete the malicious program:

1. Delete the Trojan process.
2. Delete the original Trojan file (the location will depend on how the program originally penetrated the victim machine).
3. Update your antivirus databases and perform a full scan of the computer ( download a trial version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus).

With all this virus stuff and blah blah blah, it might be a good idea to turn off some services that can be used as back doors to your operating system. Try some of the suggestion in BlackViper's list (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/Archive/service411.htm)

This is a site that gives suggestions on what services can be turned off within Windows XP, it also gives detailed information as to what each service does. Since following these instructions my Zone Alarm reports 0 intrusion blocked since install and 0 have been high-rated.

I would strongly suggest reading the descriptions of what each service does before turning off services. Anyway it's really quite effective.

Okay, I just looked over the massive ZoneAlarm thing you posted... Apparently you just did a google search for usdownloader.exe, right? Read it again. The virus you're posting about is HARVESTING FROM usdownloader.exe, it is NOT usdownloader.exe. In other words, the virus you posted about tries to steal your passwords to rapidshare, megaupload, etc from USD's info files.

This is equal to saying that Internet Explorer is a virus because a trojan uses it to harvest your passwords.

Please, if you're going to be overly paranoid and Google happy, READ WHAT YOU'RE POSTING FIRST.

I don't know how extensive your Final Fantasy library is but I'll ask this anyway (guess I'll find out): would you happen to have music from Final Fantasy III (Nintendo DS 2006 version)?

This is a bit of a desperate request, but is anyone willing to pickup where fast_eddie left off, I mean with the whole ripping Final fantasy music and encoding it in FLAC? There are still a few requests left unfulfilled but there's no sign that fast_eddie will ever return and upload the rest. It doesn't have to be any one person that does this, everyone can join in. As for uploading, I came across a site that has some decent uploading speeds (700kb/s avg), it's FREE and you don't have to subscribe for any special account. The download speed is also decent and there's no need to type in any three letter code or wait to download. Here's the site: MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com/index.php). Just throw each disc into a rar file and upload them individually. Oh and thanks again! :)

Well uploading the tracks individually will probably take a longer time then if you were to put them into a rar file, but if you find it easier this way then by all means. You can ge tthe latest WinRar here: RARLAB (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)

I can actually compare it pretty well, since I've many 1000's megaupload links, and almost none of em is deleted! But the new mediafire links is deleted just some days after... like your links... =P

I used to like MediaFire but they to are removing links rapidly fast just like MegaUpload. Currently I'm using FileFactory (http://www.filefactory.com/), that is until it fails on us as well. :rolleyes:
